We stayed at Meridiana Country Hotel for a long weekend at October 2010. We booked a double room for three nights through Hotels.com for 46 EUR/night/room with breakfast.

Positive: The hotel itself is located on a wonderful location in the northern part of Tuscany near Florence, but a good 30-45 minutes drive from it, depending on which route you use reach the city. It is also very good to go to other cities with car, but note that you will drive a lot from this location. If you want to leave your car in the hotel, there is a free shuttle bus that takes you to the nearest train station of the city of Prato, where you can reach various cities. Note that you have to ask for the shuttle bus a day before you want to use it, since it has a fix schedule. Anyway it is advised to have a car if you stay in this hotel. The parking is free, and it has an open parking space, and a closed yard too (this you have to ask in the lobby, but its also free). Also there is bus station near the hotel. The bus takes you to Florence for 3 EUR/way/person (We went to Florence by car anyway, since there is a free parking lot at Piazzale Michelangelo where you can leave you car for the day! The view is expextacular from it to Florence! Anyway you can leave your car free also in various cities in Tuscany like Siena, Volterra, Pisa, etc, but note that you will have to walk about one mile to reach the center part. But in good weather it is advisable anyway.

The rooms are furnished in Tuscan style, are ok and clean, the bed is comfortable, perhaps some amenities should be included, like teapot. The view from the rooms are incredible beautiful, and if you ask for a room in the first floor, you will have your own garden! If you your room in the second floor you will have a huge balcony!

Negative: 1) Breakfast: very limited and poor. 2) The internet is not free (as it says for example at booking.com!). You have to buy a card for 5 EUR-s and you will have 45 minutes to surf the web. If you close the web browser, note that you login out first, since the counter is still going, even if you close your laptop! 3) There is an option of half board at the restaurant in front, but its a bit expensive (25 EUR/ pp). 4) The television set is very small (but the number of available channels is huge!). 5) The wellness and gym area is also has to be improved. Its more like a three star hotel, than the officially four.

Overall this hotel is only a good option if you have a car and you are looking for a good and cheap hotel deal near Florence. The view and the location is beatiful. It is astonishing feeling to wake up and go out from the room the balcony and look to the mountains! The hotel staff is algo very helpful and nice! But if you dont have your own vehicle, you will have very limited options to go out, due to its remote location from everything. It is nice to stay here, but you should consider the pros or contras written above.

The hotel is really nowhere and you need a car to go there. It is far from the city. There is a small restaurant across the street with very good cuisine.Nice and charming people. It is very quiet..We slept wonderful. We had wide terrace which is like your own backyard.Very relaxing. In the lobby they have great natural spa products.

Booked this hotel but had to cancel and change to another hotel in central Florence. This was largely due to the fact that the advertised free shuttle bus service no longer exists. Also looking at the bus timetables for Florence - Prato - Calenzano there are very few buses that serve the hotel during the day and at night time the only proposed option was a taxi (30 Euros) or car hire. I have read reviews elsewhere that say it can be really difficult finding a parking space in Florence and given that it would have cost more than our hotel booking to hire a car it seemed the Meridiana Country hotel was something of a false economy!! Also it is quite a distance from the centre... There are reasonably priced hotels in central Florence -- just shop about first :-) Hope this helps x

No parking available when we arrived due to a function. When I said that one of the main reasons for choosing the hotel was parking, told "tough" We were prommised a call to our room when - if - a space became free, the call never happened. I kept going out to check every hour or so, and when I found a free space my wife guarded it it while I went to fetch the car.
Wanted to eat in the hotel bistro, told "No, reserved for a function tonight" we could use the restaurant over the road, but it was raining that night and we'd have had to cross a busy road with massive puddles everywhere. We went without.
Not having spoken to the kids for a while, we wanted the internet for 'skype' £13 to use it and there were no instructions in the room, took ages to figure it out - including another trip to the front desk (they wouldn't answer the telephone) for what turned out to be wrong information!. The shower cubicle was possibly the smallest I've ever seen, and the bed was so hard that neither of us was able to sleep - and we like a hard bed!
Breakfast was just about OK, nice freshly squeezed fruit juice.
Glad to see the back of this place. Four star??? you must be joking!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the room was excellent. We would suggest a car if holidaying but a bus is available almost at the door for Florence. The restaurant was good, but exceptional when Marco was attending to customers. The only negative aspect was the ant invasion. Seasonal we think.
