“Excellent place”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

We were a group of five friends coming from different countries and we ate at this restaurant during the Xmas holidays. The atmosphere of the place is not cozy, yet nice but is not the strength of the place. The food, and the wine suggested by the very gentle sommelier Roberto was excellent! We had different courses because we wanted to try different things and everything was at very high level: The quality of the products, the presentation, the way it was cooked, the attention in the details which makes the difference! we had great time!

Dear Sirs,
thank you very much for your kind review... really appreciated.
The outside of our restaurant is not the one of our strength indeed... therefore we pay maximum attention to the food and the hospitality.
Hope to see you again next year

“Creative and distinct in local plates”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

If you want a creative plate and you also desire to have a tour of the local cuisine in Canazei, this is the place to be. Not cheap in the full sense of the word. You pay a bit more, but you get the quality. Also serves pizza which is good. Particular was the mixed plate with typical local food to taste (even though is not enough as a main dish for someone who is dining on an empty stomach). Also the ravioli with deer meat was excellent. I have to mention the wine which is one of the positives of this place...with the host being also a sommelier! Highly recommendable.

“Exquisite & absolutly astounding - even second time as well!!”
Reviewed 5 May 2013

We were on a 15 days ski holiday in Canazei during New Year. As we usually do, we ask the local people were to go when eating, sights etc. Somehow this place didn't get mentioned, but luckily a Danish guy told us about the place. What he told was that if we needed a really good meal for a small amount of money, this was the place. "I've haven't had any quest, who’s been there, who hasn't appreciated the food". Being the guys we are, we thought; we'll I don't want pizza, pasta etc. so we gave it a change and made a reservation though. When ending the reservation over telephone the guy suddenly starts speaking small phases of Danish - I'm just thinking wow - he's an Italian. One thing that pops in you mind at this point is places like in the Czech Republic, Greece, Tunisia - where sellers learn some Danish just to make an easy sell. This wasn’t the case. (If you are Dane – please ask for the “Danish menu number two” and listen to the flawless pronunciation. Merely a joke from the owner)

At first you see a small place, kind of like a motel/road restaurant with plastic chairs outside for smokers obviously - due to the weather this is understandable. When we came inside we were meet with the sight of local people. We were shown to our table in the other end of the room and noticed immediately that there were to other tables with Danes as well. We sat and started to make an impression of the place. Our waiter, the owner which we later found out, handed us menu's at started briefly to talk Danish with a very clear accent. Roberto Anesi.
We decided on a three course dinner, anti pasti, pasti and main course and were recommended not decide on the local courses - a combination of Italian & Swiss/German cuisine.
Being Danish, we were explained, by Roberto, we would think; ”I could have done this mashed potato, for instance, better myself.” So we decided amongst other things on the tartar, carpaccio, marinated deer, and ravioli w/ pear, fig and poppy seeds. The tartar was amazing. Luckily for us, there weren’t a lot of quest the particular evening, so we had the change of watching the tartar being prepared at our table.
We also had a Giulio Ferrari vintage ’97, which Roberto, I would say, ”convinced” us to try. Absolutely amazing. The nose gave all four of us goose bumps – I won’t even start explaining the taste of it ..
Second time we came by doing our holiday, we had opportunity a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ’82, in – and stick to you chairs now, Roberto’s private wine glasses – price tag: merely 50 € a glass. Honoured by his gesture, this unusual experience (for a no red wine drinker as myself) we simply fell in rapture. Later on Roberto showed up with a surprise for us. At our previous visit we had discussed the Danish view on Amarone – and the lacking of it towards Brunello and Barolo. And of cause our surprise was a Brunello – though can’t recall the name of, I clearly remember him saying that he bought three bottles of it in the mid 90’s for less than 10€ - and today it would cost around 500€ .. And this bottle, the very last of the three believe it or not, he just opened and shared with us – with a gratitude for our time, visit and dialogue. I remember him sayin; “I would rather share this experience with people who passionate about and interested in what is being served – and especially when is local.”
Thank you!!

Of course he had one last thing up his sleeve, which we had to try. Vino Santo. To be quite honest we aren’t the biggest fanes of dessert wines. But this Francesco Poli vignaioli a S. Masssenza ’88 was an exception. Waauw!!

If you are considering an evening at this place - 5 % of the experience above would blow your mind to the moon!!
Thank you!!
