“A peaceful hotel in the dolamites”
Reviewed 30 January 2012

We have stayed for several years when skiing in this beautiful hotel. The plusses are the closness to the ski lifts, a beautiful wellness centre with swimming sauna and optional extras galore (although moderately expensive) and the food was really top restaurent standard The minuses were the smallness of the rooms especially singles and as another reviewer there was a few niggles like a poorly draining bath (still; we stayed in the same room two years running) and the tired furniture and fittings. Never the less we will be there again next year as it remains a beautiful village and easy access to the amazing dolamites skiing area

Room Tip: choose a room with a view; a balcony if you want to upgrade not street side as a bit noisy

Just returned from a 7-night ski holiday in Canazei and stayed at the Hotel La perla. Everything about this hotel was just fantastic and it’s just a short walk to the Belvedere gondola station. We were a bit unsure about booking Canazei at first, as it did not look well serviced on the lift front. How wrong we were, everything in resort is geared up for the keen skier, all orange ski buses in resort are free and are really frequent to Alba and Campetello. The staff at the Hotel La Perla were so friendly and could not do enough for you. I have an allergy to cream but do not like to make a fuss so would eat what I knew was ok for me. The head waiter "Andrea" noted that I was skipping courses and went out of his way to sort an alternative for me that did not contain cream. The Wellness centre was also excellent, there was nothing better than relaxing in there after a hard days skiing, the plunge pool was also a must to aid aching legs. We only returned from our holiday on the 28th of Jan and are already looking to book this hotel and resort again for next year.

First of all the location is excellent, a few steps from the Belvedere gondola that is the point of access to the Dolomity Supersky Area, and a few steps form the shops and bars of Canazei.
It is a family well-run business. Suggested is half-board, with an excellent breakfast buffet and a quite good restaurant, with at least 3 choices for every course. Wellness center offers a variety of steam rooms/sauna/whirpool included in the room price, plus a menu of optional treatments.
3 days a week there is an excellent afternoon dessert buffet if you want to double up the calories that you burned with skiing! Wireless internet very good (but charged extra). We had a pretty spacious junior suite.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the new wing

We stayed at La Perla for a week's skiing. It is conveniently placed for the gondola, the only access to the main skiing area. The corridors leading to our room all had a strong smell of chlorine from the wellness area. Inside our room, the space was adequate but the furniture was a little tired - chipped and worn. The restaurant (we were on half-board) was generally good with better than average service. Although the menu changed each day, the main meat courses seem much the same. The public areas (bar & reception) were large but lacked atmosphere. The wellness area, swimming pool, sauna, steam room etc was very good and not over-crowded.

The hotel is on the main road, although set back so there is a constant stream of traffic, should you step out of the hotel.

I couldn't enthuse about the hotel but it served its purpose as close to the ski-lifts, warm, plenty of food and a pool to enjoy after a day's skiing.

La Perla is an excellent ski hotel. Only 100m or so from Belvedere gondola or ski bus stop, the location is hard to beat. Food is superb, five or six courses each evening. Bar and wine prices seem very reasonable. The spa / wellness centre amazing, a fantastic place to go after a hard day ski-ing. First class heated boot room. Decor is typical Tyrolean, a bit OTT maybe! Rooms are well appointed, standard rooms are maybe a touch on the small side. Live entertainment - eurovision type music sung by a local on the keyboards -was a bit dodgy, but the Italian guests seemed to enjoy it.

The Cliff bar in the basement is quite a lively apres ski bar, good fun.

We travelled with Inghams, and for what we paid the La Perla represents fantastic value for money. Inghams rep was a local Italian girl - very helpful and her local ski tips spot on.

Highly recommended, would certainly go back.

We stayed for a week in the Hotel La Perla while skiing in the Dolomites. The hotel's position is great for skiers, very close to the main gondola, giving you a chance to cut the queues first thing in the morning. It's also a pleasant easy walk to anywhere else in Canazei. There is secure covered parking, which is helpful when it snows.

The room we were given faced the main road, but my husband asked for a room at the back and we got one. We would recommend this for a traffic free night, although the rear rooms do face the ski school and so suffer from the sounds of piste grooming early in the morning!

The rooms are plain and simple for a four star but spotless and comfortable, with good mattresses, big balconies and everything you need.

The La Perla is an overwhelmingly family hotel, both in service style and customer base. There were lots of children there and they are excellently looked after, and we found the service friendly, warm and charming. It is the sort of establishment where after a couple of days you just pop in behind the reception desk to pick up your key. I like this very much.

The whole place is a monument to Tyrolean kitsch, which is amusing for a week, but if you prefer a more subdued style we'd suggest you try the Croce Bianca just down the main Canazei street. To give you a clue, the hotel has a pet mynah bird by the lift. His name is Arturo and he talks in a number of languages. We liked him, but some people might not.

Food was a highlight for us at La Perla. We were on half board and found breakfasts generous - it would have been easy to make a picnic lunch from breakfast had we been so inclined - and dinners delicious. Apart from one piece of veal being overcooked we could not fault the food, and the local specialities, such as canederlei, were a revelation. The service was also lovely, which surprised us given some of the reviews on this site. All the staff were friendly, helpful and (like Arturo) multi-lingual.

Last but not least, the hotel's wellness centre is, well, almost indescribable, being made to resemble a sort of grotto. But its functionality is excellent - steam rooms, saunas, jacuzzis, quiet places to snooze, and never too busy even at the weekends when Italians from Verona and Venice descend in droves. A great place to relax (and giggle at the decor) after a hard day on the slopes.

Altogether we loved our stay at La Perla and felt we had experienced a real slice of Italy.
