We have just arrived home from this beautiful hotel. Everything was beyond our expectations. The staff were all particularly welcoming and helpful. We used all the hotel facilities and found them to be excellent, particularly the restaurant and staff. We dined there every night of our weeks stay. We hired a car but this was not worth it as the hotel offers complimentary transport into the local town where you can catch the train. We took 2 of their excursions to Capri and Pompei which were both excellent. Thank you everyone for a wonderful holiday.

La Medusa is a charming building with wonderful gardens and outdoor areas. We had a really nice suite with a separate room for the kids. Best part was the breakfast and the most delicious fresh orange juice served in the stylish greenhouse or outside on the terrace, and relaxing by the little pool area. It is absolutely understandable that they have about two weddings in this wonderful little oasis. Downfall was the the free WIFI kept on falling out, you had to pay for your pool towels, the direct surroundings are horrible and the beach side is awful in Castellammare Di Stabia. But once you get past that you will discover some typical local restaurants with great food for little money. We never tried the dinner in the restaurant of the hotel as they only have full course deals and we don't feel this is what Italian food is about. But overall a wonderful place to escape to for a few days and the staff was always really welcoming and helpful.

Dear MarlBeuka,

Thank you very much for your words of appreciation and for having shared your wonderful feedback with the Tripadvisor community.

We are delighted to learn that you enjoyed your recent stay with us and it is such a pleasure receiving compliments on the service delivered and learning that our team members were brilliant and capable in helping you throughout your stay.

With regards to your suggestion, please be informed that the most beautiful beaches in the area can be reach by train in 5 minutes and the hotel provides a free shuttle service to the train station. We do our best to prevent any discomfort to our clients related to the beach distance.

We hope we will have the chance to welcome you back in the soonest future.

Best regards,

Mariano Imperato

Ok, so we travel for work often and are used to staying in large, corporate owned hotels-this was a very cute alternative to those-I usually really like smaller hotels. The grounds are very pretty, the building itself is architecturally interesting and most of the staff very nice. A few cons that really irked me:
-It is very noisy, I guess this is what happens in smaller hotels-plus the floors are tile and the slamming doors echo down the hall.
-The housekeeping does not respect the Do Not Disturb sign-they knock AS THEY ARE ENTERING your room which really irritates me-many times they entered as I was just coming out of the shower. Even if you tell them "no service" they will come back and try numerous times in a day.
-Location-do not walk anywhere in the "neighborhood", it's pretty sketchy. There was also a dog barking at a home right next door, it barked and howled through the night every night-obviously something the hotel can't control, but something I felt I should point out.

My coworkers really liked this hotel, and I think I would have liked it more if it weren't so noisy and my privacy was respected.

Room Tip: I have read the different opinions about room choice and feel like it may be noisy almost everywhere.

After staying at La Medusa Grand Hotel, I cannot see how this hotel has such fantastic reviews. To begin, the neighborhood where this hotel is located is the worst I have seen in my life. To be clear: Castellammare Di Sabia is filthy, graffiti covered, and littered with garbage everywhere. The traffic is terrible and the city seems unsafe. In this sense, the hotel might be considered an "oasis" of sorts, amidst sea of trash.

Pros: the hotel lobby, pool, and restaurant are beautiful; some of the staff were extremely helpful in giving trip advice; the aperitifs were delicious and came with lots of great snacks

Cons:

-Guest rooms:
The guest rooms were outdated, dirty, and uncomfortable. The bathrooms need serious updating and the rooms need new mattresses. They're terrible. We arrived to find a bathroom streaked with water stains and rusty fixtures, a hard-as-rock mattress, light fixtures with bulb burn marks all over them, and a food-stained table cloth on the outdoor patio table. Really unacceptable for a hotel claiming to be "grand".

-Food:
The hotel restaurant is terrible and overpriced. Stay away! The free breakfast is huge, but nothing special...mostly a lot of sweet pastries, but nothing of substance.

-Location:
This hotel is really located in a terrible and ugly place. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere closer to Amalfi. Even better - skip the south of Italy altogether and head north where the cities are clean and the people are friendly. The Amalfi Coast is nothing to write home about.

-Price:
This hotel is extremely overpriced. The rooms shouldn't be more than about 70Euro/night for what you're getting. They're really nothing special. The hotel also organizes outrageously expensive group trips for guests to various sights in the region. Unless you enjoy wasting money, skip these excursions and make the trips on your own - you'll save a small fortune.

In all, this hotel probably is the best hotel in the Castellammare Di Stabia area, but the neighborhood is so awful that I really don't see a reason for anyone to stay here. If you want to see Pompei, find a hotel near Vesuvius - there are some nice looking small places. If you're looking to see Amalfi, I'd suggest the town of Ravello - some fantastic looking (and affordable) options exist!

Room Tip: The rooms near the pool are very loud - if you must stay at this hotel, ask for a quitter area.

Dear Jessica,

Thank you for reporting your feedback regarding your stay at Grand Hotel La Medusa

We do highly evaluate our guests’ comments in order to constantly improve the level of service we strive to offer to our clients and your observations are really helpful to this intent.

Since we do take the comfort of our guests very seriously at our Hotel, aiming to convert each journey into pleasant experiences, we do regret very much to realize your discontent as to your room which regretfully affected your overall stay. We wish to clarify that all our rooms are modern and that each room is carefully cleaned each day, under the control of our meticulous Executive Housekeeper.Considering that we do provide a range of different rooms’ categories, we are always glad to be of support by changing room ( you could communicate the problems encountered in the room directly to the front office staff at the check-in time) or suggesting an upper category in compliance with the Guests’ needs.I can assure you that we accommodate a number of guests in our hotel and are proud to have the flexibility to meet their requirements.

Regarding the excursions we propose, please let me clarify that we exclusively work with an upmarket tour designer Agency without ever experiencing such inconvenience. At the check in time the reception staff offers a comprehensive overview of all the activities that can be made in the region ( including all the timetables of public means of transport ). We offer the best solution in compliance with the Guests’ needs.

Early in the morning, the Italian culture blend to delight guests’ palates at breakfast. A continental breakfast is automatically served: croissants, baked pastries, fruits, a hot drink and a fresh fruit juice of your choice do perfectly illustrate the Medusa Breakfast Ritual. The buffet offers different stations which invite you to a thematic & gastronomic journey in Italy. We are sorry that you did not enjoy our restaurant (mentioned in the Michelin Guide since 2010 and appreciated by all our guests).Kindly allow me to mention that we have aligned our breakfast and dinner offering to other four/five star hotels in the area.

Kindest Regards,

Mariano Imperato

Wonderful! Perfect! Luxury! Nothing too much trouble. Excellent reception staff....so helpful, courteous & friendly. Every attention to detail. Lots of lovely antique furniture, crystal chandeliers, white linen, lots of white flowers, everywhere smelt divine! .....red wine air diffusers! Good food. Beautiful gardens. Lots of places to sit. Good pool & sunbeds. Breakfast was a feast for the eyes. So close to visit Pompeii.....as we did...
Beyond the gates, the area is not so nice, but, this hotel offers a good base when visiting the Amalfi or as said previously,Pompeii.. We also has dinner here one evening which was very good..But you need a car here.....beyond the gates, there is no where to eat or walk.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony....not many have them,we had 307, it had a side view of the sea,& full view of Mt Versusius..
