“Great Location for the Sorrento Coast”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

The Towers Hotel has a great location to explore the Sorrento Coast. The room we have is quite nice, but the "ocean view" is lacking. We can see the ocean, but the door to the outside does not open. You can only look sideways out the window to view the ocean. This booking came as a result of a search on Orbitz. The "on line chat" assured us the hotel room had a balcony. Not so when we arrived at the hotel. While this was not the fault of the hotel, they did nothing to remedy the situation. That said, we love the location and easy access to the water. It sits at the bottom of a cliff right on the water. The staff has been helpful suggesting things to do in the area.
Beware of the balcony options that you pay for...even the balconies that we see in this hotel are quite lacking from what we expected. The balconies have no real access, just a door that opens to the outside. Rooms are nice and clean.

Room Tip: Be careful of the advertised balcony. Highway is close by, but the noise level is very minimal. Bei...

Towers Hotel in Castellammare is perfectly situated between the slime/crime ridden Napoli and all points of interest on the Amalfi Coast: Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi. Its ease of access to Pompeii is also notable for the historical traveler. We spent four nights here in July 2014 and were overall very pleased with our selection.

On the down side, the hotel has some updating to do. To be fair, in May 2014 it changed hands from the Crowne Plaza brand to the Towers brand. Towers is a notable luxury line out of France, so it is my expectation that they will update the hotel in the foreseeable future. Simple updates to the decor will go a long way to dissociate from the IHG brand (which we personally love) and put the Towers stamp on the property. I'll add that our travels to this region illustrate that many of the hotels on the Amalfi Coast suffer from the same outdated decor, and we've encountered far worse in our travels to the region. The Towers Hotel Castellammare is far better off than other properties in the pricy Positano and Sorrento.

One of the key selling points is that this hotel is one of the very few on the Amalfi Coastline to offer onsite parking at a very very low price ($5 USD per day). I can think of only two other hotels on the Amalfi Coast that offer this benefit. It is indeed a luxury.

Proximity is also a great selling point. You are a 15 minute drive to Sorrento and a half-hour drive to Positano. It simply cannot be beat.

The premises are very nice, with its very own private beach. With Mt. Vesuvius rising in the distance over the Bay of Naples, the views are quite extraordinary. The food is good quality, the service was appropriately professional (but not warm and fuzzy), and the rooms were well-apportioned.

We would recommend this hotel to any traveler without hesitation, and it's quite likely we will stay here again when we return to the region.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra to get a full view of the Bay of Naples. It is a stunning sight to open your cur...

The hotel looks lovely and the location near the water is quite nice. The room was light, bright, clean and airy. We had a small balcony overlooking Vesuvius. But for a long term stay the facilities become limited. The hotel bar food is basically bread based, and not a great choice. The restaurant food was disappointing. The quality was mediocre and choice pretty limited. I would expect more for the price. Our evening meal was 55 euros for two of us, two courses with no wine or coffee. Lamb was overcooked and fatty, the swordfish was unseasoned and oily.
Breakfast choice is better.
I didn't find the staff at all welcoming or helpful. We asked where we could go to eat, outside the hotel, and were sent on a treacherous walk to a nearby town, along a main road with no pavement, through some really scary back streets. In hindsight we would have preferred to take a taxi on the short journey. The choice of trips are fairly limited, and we were left stranded after one of them because the tour company (the only one the hotel deal with) forgot to arrange transport back to the hotel.
I would also re-iterate another review that says the bath/shower is not that easy t get in and out of.
It's worth getting the bus into Sorrento, it stops right outside the hotel, and takes about 45 mins.
I wouldnt trust the bus times though, as the last bus of the day to the airport didnt turn up and we ended up having to pay 90 euros for a taxi.
The trip to Pompeii & Vesuvius isnt worth the money as you don't get enough time in Pompeii and too much time at Vesuvius.
I wouldnt stay here again.

Room Tip: Ground floor with a balcony view of Vesuvius - Room 3

The place is great. Very elegant, close to the beach, a beautiful swimming pool. But the restaurant is gorgeous! The chef is really great with fish and meat dishes.
Quite, I suggest the hotel as a base for visiting beautiful sites (Sorrento, Vico, Pompeii and so on).
The only problem is the sea ...

We chose this hotel for it's views over the Bay of Naples, the hotel does stand on it's own - we knew this before we arrived and had a car so it wasn't a problem for us. All the staff we dealt with were excellent we couldn't fault them. Mario at the pool was exceptional, he really went out of his way to make us comfortable - we had read reviews before coming out and can say he is genuinely helpful and friendly. As a family of five we had two adjoining rooms - very spacious, well presented and clean with a great view across the bay to Mount Vesuvius. We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our holiday to southern Italy. The restaurant was fine with good food and generous portions, again with lovely staff who also went out of their way - our only criticism would be that the menu may become boring if staying for longer (shame on me but I don't love sea food!).

i stayed here for 6 nights, the check staff was ok,the room 109,clean but you had to climb into bath shower and out no steps very dangerous, then the next morning are shoes was on the bedroom floor covered in ants and anything you left on the floor .
the breakfast was ok for a 2 star hotel, the pool was a large pool but the sides of the pool needed a good clean.
the bar was ok,no beer on draught, all bottles, but then the hotel taxi service!!!
they go 2 times in the morning 845 to sorrento and 10am and come back at 7pm or 23.30 so its a long day they all drive like idiots on mobile phones, they charge 2.50 euros each way but a normal taxi very expensive 80 euros, the train best at 1.60 and every twenty mins. 300 yards from hotel ,but know one from hotel told us about this,
the hotel is not near anything its 45 mins in a car from sorrento so my advice find another hotel.

Room Tip: sea view nice, but beware of ants in the summer.

I stayed at the Towers in August for 7 nights. We were allocated an incorrect room but at check-in the staff did not even advise of this and almost hoped we would not notice. When I queried this with them, their reply was we would have to deal with it for now but could possibly change it the following day. In short, we had to get the agency involved in the UK who asked the hotel staff to communicate with us rather than leave us in the lurch.

Throughout the hotel, the staff are generally unhappy and look as if they don't want to be there. One night we ate in the hotel restaurant and found the service to be extremely poor. The manager (or person in charge) only appeared to serve four members of the hotel management team that were eating in the restaurant that night. The rest of the tables including ours were generally left waiting for food/drinks and service. At breakfast, we ordered a coffee but had to re-order it several times before it arrived. The restaurant lacks any kind of supervision and staff are wandering around aimlessly.

On a positive, the hotel is well situated if you don't want to be in the centre of the madness of Sorrento. You will need a car to stay here as there is nothing in the surrounding area and Sorrento is a 30 minute drive away along the coastal road (during the day). We ate at the Stone restaurant which is right next door to the Towers. Amazing restaurant, food, location and service. The Towers management could learn a thing or two.

The pool area at the Towers is fabulous. Kept very clean, wonderful location and looked after by Mario who is the only cheerful and helpful member of the hotel.

My husband and I are well travelled and have previously worked for tour operators hence we are not ones to have a moan about nothing. In all our experiences, this is the worst hotel in terms of service....definitely not 4 star service. Hotel itself is fine but I would not recommend it on the basis of the service alone.
