My husband and I toured Italy for 3 weeks before we discovered this absolute gem of a hotel. My idea of what a hotel in Tuscany should be - historic, clean, friendly, excellent food, excellent local wine, and perfect location. Will definitely go back!

We spent absolutely ages picking a place to stay in the Chianti region for 3 nights as part of a 3 week trip to Italy. We always use trip advisor, and (nearly!) always feel we made the right decision on where to stay. I kind of left this place feeling like it should have been better than it was.

Firstly, the pro's.......Yes, lovely setting and great views- though you get these throughout the region. It really is spectaculor. The hotel is set in some renovated farmhouse grounds, and really did have a nice feel to it. The room itself was dissapointing. The old style, traditional decor we expected, but we were on the ground floor stuck in a drak corner, and the room offered no view whatsoever, other than being overlooked by the kitchen staff (which meant we had to keep the shutters closed throughout, which made it even darker). I think if you can get a room with a view, then they'd be great- but they were not able to provide us that.

We wanted to stay somewhere that had a restaurant, and glad that we did- you are a good 15/20 mins drive to any other bar or restaurant. The food was good, though quite expensive compared to other meals in Italy- plus you had to choose your dinner selection by mid day, which was a bit annoying......

The other reason we stayed at this hotel, as opposed to a small b&b was because we hoped that they would be much more geared up to helping us arrange wine tastings, tours etc, and this is where we really felt let down. They advertise that they have tastings and a winery on site, but the tasting is actually just at a bar in a nearby town. They could also not really suggest any local places for us to go to tastings which seemed strange, and other than suggesting a big bus tour from Sienna, they didn't seem to actually be that knowledgeable in the local area. We ended up having to do everything ourselves independently, which defeated the purpose of staying in a (relatively expensive) hotel who could have helped out a little.

All in all, the hotel itself is fine, but for the moeny, the staff could have made our overall experience and our stay so much better.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel as part of our Honeymoon. It is absolutely gorgeous, the pictures don't do it justice. It is a wonderful hotel if you want to just lounge all day - but it's also a great spot in the middle of things if you want to do day trips. A short distance from Chianti, San Gimignano, and Siena! Would definitely stay there again.

We spend there 4 days. One of the most pretty hotels we have ever visited. A verry open, frendly staff. Magnificent cook who makes super pasta. The room was 100% clean. A realy frendly place with a good atmosphere. We surely come back.

Since we discovered san leonino 5 years ago we spend our holidays every year in this hotel. We enjoy the hospitality of the hotel, the relaxed athmosphere, fantastic genuine italian food, the tranquility of the location. The views are breath taking especially from the swimming pool and terrace. We visited Siena, Firenze, San Gimignano, Chianti region, even Pisa and Lucca. Dinner was served outside. New this year: the wine degustations during dinner 2x/week which we liked very much. We congratulate the staff for their efforts!
