“Nice Hotel - Wonderful Town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014

My wife and I stayed at Palazzo Squarcialupi for three nights in June. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. Our room was clean, spacious and had great bathroom. Our room was on the 'town' side of the hotel. We had no problem with street noise, even with the World Cup on TV across the street.

The staff was friendly and helpful with maps and directions. Breakfast was ok, certainly nothing to complain about, but also not really special.

Castellina is a wonderful town. It's fun and lively with shops and restaurants. Many nearby wineries have shops in town that offer tastings, but we really enjoyed Franco's wine shop around the corner.

Would definitely stay here again.

We chose this hotel because we wanted to be located in a village/small town so we could sample some of the fantastic wines this area produces, after spending the days exploring, without worrying about driving or taxis.....and this place was perfect!
It is centrally situated within the wonderful small town of Castellina in Chianti, where you will find a few shops, around a dozen restaurants/cafes, most of them very good and the best ice cream shop I have ever visited!
The town is quaint, some may say twee......but come the evening the day trippers have gone and it becomes a peaceful retreat.
The hotel is lovely, with well maintained gardens including a pool (cant comment on this as we did not get the opportunity to enjoy it)
Our room was fantastic.......large, split over two levels with a sitting area and large bathroom downstairs with access to a small terrace and balcony, upstairs was the large bedroom area.
The balcony, although quite small had the most spectacular views across the countryside and vineyards.
We slept peacefully every night in the large big comfy bed and had no disturbances at all.
All reception staff were very helpful and friendly and even arranged a wine tasting for us at very short notice.
The only complaint.....and why I didn't give it five stars would be the breakfast. The breakfast room was quite......dull (although the most recent reviews mention that breakfast is now served in the garden) and the breakfast did not change at all in the four days we were there. A bit of variation would have been nice.....and fresh coffee, which the Italians do rather well, would have been welcome.
But if we are back in this area again we would definitely chose to stay here again......Thank you to everyone at the Palazzo Squarcialupi.

Room Tip: Chose a room at the back of the hotel for wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and vineyar...

Our family of four happened upon this little gem during our explorations of Tuscany. After spending several days in a very nice yet remote villa we were looking for a combination of both a relaxing holiday combined with some form of entertainment at our door. This place filled that order beautifully.

We had a large well appointed room that could fit our whole family comfortably (not easy to find in Italy). The view from our window was idyllic and serene; country-side, vineyards, etc.... The front door of the hotel opened on to the prettiest medieval town street with shops, restaurants rental scooters,etc... In the heart of Castalina in Chianti. The hotel offers a lovely garden and pool area with the same views as from our room window as well a spotlessly clean and inviting spa and wellness centre. The hotel also offers discounts at their excellent restaurant and "inoteca" (wine store) nearby.

I would recommend getting a room facing the country side as it is quieter but Castalina is not a riotous town as far as we could imagine or experienced. The location is a 20 minute drive to Siena. This is well worth the visit. It is also an easy drive to many a vineyard that is also well worth the tour as you are in the heart of Chianti.

This is a must stop-over if you are in the area. If you are not in the area it is worth putting it on your agenda. It's that nice!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from the street and not off the breakfast room. Either could be noisier...

This hotel is comfortable. The room was huge, the view was wonderful from our room. If you stay at this hotel make certain to have a room with a view as the other rooms face the street.
Breakfast is served in the garden, which is lovely and the breakfast is very nice as well. The view from the garden is spectacular.
The lobby is lacking in decor and charm. They do not offer maps, you have to buy them. However because of the view and the garden/breakfast I would stay here again.

Room Tip: a room with a view of the country side only.

We stayed 2 nights in Castellina in Chianti and it took us little time to understand what this town has to offer. There is not as much to see in this town as other Tuscan towns and cities, but the residents are rightfully proud of their town. And it is easy to understand why - this town is about slowing down and appreciating the goods things life offers. And this hotel is an excellent place to develop that understanding.

The place is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is fine. There are nice little places throughout the hotel to relax. There is an underutilized spa area with a jacuzzi and sauna. Great place to hang around. There is a nice pool to take a dip. Most importantly, there are beautiful gardens to relax and view the gorgeous Tuscan countryside. One afternoon, we purchased a bottle of wine and food from a local market and enjoyed one of the best meals imaginable. The hotel supplied 2 wine glasses and the beautiful grounds for a great 3 hours! If you are looking for a hotel to help you relax and come to appreciate why Tuscany is epicenter of La Dolce Vita, then this is as good a place as there is to do it.

I traveled here from the U.S. and stayed for 5 nights. The place was amazing. The people at reception were more than happy to help me arrange transportation to cities near by like San Gimignano and Siena. They offered taxis, bus info, and train info. They were willing to hold my luggage prior to checkin and also after checkout since I wanted to have a bit of time to walk around while waiting for my taxi to arrive. The town is such a beautiful place and this hotel is right in the heart. it is just across from a great restaurant with nice outdoor seating. For a group this was the perfect place for us to gather. The rooms were a nice size with air conditioning. The bathrooms were great as well. The breakfast that they provide is very well done and offers a variety of yummy foods. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to this area!

We stayed 4 nights at this beautiful hotel which is situated right in the centre of the Castellina village, and yet within 10 minutes drive you are in the enchanting Tuscan countryside. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and speak very good English. The hotel restaurant was only opened about 4 months ago and it is excellent! We had 2 meals there and really enjoyed the food and the wine of course! It is also very reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return again! Thank you for a lovely stay!
