Description: Rustic structure, tipically tuscan, located in the country area of Castellina in Chianti. Is by a family conduction: Federico and Maria Pia are brothers and they are concerned it since 1994. Dishes are simple, homemade and household. The menù consists of: Appetizers: salami, cheese, grilled bread with sauce , fettunte (oil bread), grilled vegetables , omelettes, dishes based of fresh truffle. The first dishes are all caracterised of homemade and fresh pasta: meat ragù such as wildboar, duck and rubbit or vegetarian ragù such as truffle, mushrooms and cheese. Bistecca alla fiorentina (t-bon steak) is the most traditional dish of our region. Meat is cooked on the grill of a beautiful fireplace with wood. You can also taste a lot of meat dishes such as filetto (fillet of veal), tagliata (sliced beef)all with truffle, mushrooms, herbs or grilled chicken and lamb. At the end you can try the homemade desserts such as tiramisù, pannacotta, vinsanto e cantuccini (a typical sweet wine with buiscuits), jam cake, apple cake and chocolate cake. Desserts change daily. We have simple, holesome and tasty dishes not so processed. The internal enviromment is with three rooms, one is the bigger and one is with a magnificent fireplace. The upstairs is used for groups and Christmas or Easter dinner. We have a terrasse outside for the summer. we are waiting you!

“Nice place to eat...”

My wife and I ate here twice on our trip to Tuscany. We stayed at Podere Patrignone and this restaurant is just down the road. We never intended to eat at one restaurant multiple times but we could resist. The food and the service were good and on the rustic side.

We order different items each time.......excepted for the marinated artichokes. We ordered those each time and they were AMAZING!!! I have to figure out how they prepared them. If we are back in this same area we will definitely be going back.

“"Excellent"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2013

Driving through the Chianti hills from San Gimignano to Florence by the eco route not the motorway, we drove up to this restaurant. The waiter was outside calling our attention, this meant to us the restaurant was really good or the opposite, really bad! To our surprise, the waiter was fantastic, willing to please us in any way, the food was homemade and you could appreciate the thru flavors of home cooking. My husband had the Fiorentina and I had the truffle ravioli. We ate like kings, antipasto, wine, soups, main courses and lastly coffee. The price was very low compare to the cites we had already traveled.

“Still worth coming back to!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2013

Pestello is on the main road between Poggibonsi and Castellina in Chianti. A great place to stop for lunch or dinner ... and also our local restaurant when we stay nearby. The kitchen has been producing the same traditional Tuscan fare for years and the wine list is basic. AND it is our favorite place in the area! Unpretentious and friendly. The wines may be on the cheap side - but the local La Croce Classico is one of the best values around.

“Declining a little”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2013

Still the same staff, still very nice kitchen, good food, service same man working hard and well. Maybe out of season, but the weak side - the wines - very short and poor winelist, not taken care of. Must be better - there are so many good wines just around the corner.
Can be much better !
No doubt that Pestello can keep the best position around if they try some more - it is rustic, genuine, not so touristic - just a little snap up and they will be back at the top !

“Used to be so very, very good - fading?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2013

We have been here many times and always had so good food. This was true also this time even though we had to wait rather long despite an almost empty restaurant.
The filetto al tartufo is to die for..
We were disappointed on the wine list. Many years ago it was extensive but shrunk a couple of years ago to now beeing very limited, on a piece of photocopied paper.
They could do better than this, we know it! I hope it was because we were a bit before start of season but..
