I dine at La Pecora Nera each time I visit Castellina, always enjoying it immensely. The chef is creative and excellent; the staff always very accommodating. No trip to Tuscany is complete without dining at La Pecora Nera!

My wife and I had five very enjoyable dinners at La Pecora Nera in May 2013. Chef Massimo offers a variety of Tuscan dishes with daily specials. An antipasto I particularly liked was grilled pecorino in grated lemon. His risotto was also excellent. I had it once with Tuscan salsiccia and Parmesan shavings and a second time with mushrooms. His house made pasta was excellent, too. I had it with bolognese sauce. I also liked a pork dish with wild nettle sauce. My wife particularly enjoyed roasted chicken which she had twice. First class service was provided by Fabiana who has a wonderful personality. We appreciated fine local wines and both the beautiful dining room and outdoor patio.

Since many years we are regular guests at Tenuta di Ricavo and its wonderful restaurant Pecora Nera. Every time again, arriving there feels like a "warm overcoat" because of the friendliness of the people, the wonderful apartments and the great food. Being in Tuscany, the good things in life are important and Tenuta fulfills these wishes year after year.
We returned only two weeks ago from another great stay, and are looking forward already to coming back.

My wife and recently had dinner twice at La Pecora Nera, at the hotel Tenuta di Ricavo near Castellina in Chianti, Italy. The service we received was excellent, both timely and professional. But the food is the star of the show. The chef offers a nice mix of pasta and other entrees. The menu changes slightly each day. The tortelli (ravioli) was outstanding. Everyone in our group raved about their meal. I would recommend anyone in the Castellina area to this gem!

Combine local produce and wild herbs with a creative and skilled Sienese chef who honors the traditions of centuries old recipes, with new twists, beautiful presentations; and you will find yourself at this wonderful boutique hotel, Tenuta di Ricavo, situated in a private hamlet which has been converted into rooms and gardens surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest, streams and rolling hills. In the years following WW2 Tuscany has undergone many culinary changes in order to continue to tempt and impress visitors from worldwide. Many kitchens have lost their way, but not so here, the food is perfection. Try the breaded lamb, don't miss the nettle sauce, and trust any and all of the root veggies...desserts are light and full of surprises, the starters are masterful, don't leave out a course!
