We stayed with Bolero holidays whom I can't praise enough, they are so friendly and helpful.
The static was immaculate, modern, air conditioned, with pretty much everything you need except food. Tv had cbeebies channel which was a godsend in the mornings as my kids get up at 6am. Large selection of buckets &spades, inflatables, scooters etc all available to borrow (no charge)
Large decked veranda which was covered with a waterproof awning, very useful as we had a few overnight storms with heavy rain so we just put everything under the awning rather than bring it inside. Free kids club for 4 and over (bolero run)
The site itself is huge (scooters very handy for kids) very green with trees everywhere, immaculately clean, and very keen on recycling. Toilet/shower blocks also immaculate each with a nursery section with baby baths and dinky little showers &sinks for younger kids. 2 well stocked supermarkets, loads of restaurants all very child friendly. Nature areas with ponds full of fish, terrapins, frogs etc.
the beach is spotless, the sea warm and shallow, large free play area on the beach, and 3 others dotted around the site. The two pools were crowded, but that's no great surprise in August, and we always managed to find somewhere to put our towels. The lifeguards were pretty keen, but friendly and on the whole I'd rather them be there than not. The only slight negatives I would say is that the baby change facilities are few and far between and a third pool complex would help with the overcrowding

We have just returned from a two week stay at Union Lido. This was the fourth time we have visited. Bolero caravans are sited in an ideal central position, close to shops, restaurants and the two pool areas. The caravans are spacious and clean and the outside decking area is perfect for sitting and relaxing. John and his team are very friendly and always on hand.

As for the site itself, it has everything you could wish for. Eleven restaurants that all sell very nice food. Some people complain that they all sell the same, it is Italy you are obviously going to get lots of pasta and pizza. We also had very nice steak, pork chop, sea bass and also a curry. Most of the restaurants also do takeaway food. We often do this to save on the wine (some very nice wines in the supermarkets for around 3€ as opposed to 15€ ish in the restaurants).

The supermarkets sell most things you need, some things are a bit pricey but you just don't buy them. Ice creams are very nice and at 1.20€ not unreasonable. There's loads to choose from too.

The pools and beach areas are kept clean and there's always plenty of lifeguards making sure you are safe. They are busy areas and some of our European neighbours do not understand personal space but we have not struggled to find a space to put our 5 towels.

It's four years since our last visit (when Bolero used to run a bus). It won't be that long before we return again.

We stayed here with Thomson Al Fresco which could be described as 'it does what it says on the tin'. The mobile was clean, tidy and well equipped, and not cramped as other reviews have suggested. However, our bed frame was buckled which meant a first excruciating night rolling into the middle of the mattress. The frame was changed the next day without any fuss, which meant it was placed in another mobile home for some other unsuspecting couple to attempt to sleep on.
The park is enormous and extremely well maintained. It is a mixture of motorhomes, caravans, tents and static mobile homes. I would estimate that approximately 80% of the clientèle were German with the rest made up of Italians, Brits and Dutch.
There was so much variation in the entertainments programme that there really was something for everyone. At times the pool area was a bit crowded but it was to be expected during peak season. The park staff were really helpful and arranged for an electric buggy to drop off and collect our luggage. Our only gripe were the exorbitant prices in the onsite supermarkets and some of the bars. If you don't have a car then you are a captive audience and they can charge as much as they like.
The beach bar, which we only discovered on the last day was a superb place for a lazy lunch and we would have definitely used it again.
I would just add that the Thomson reps were very friendly and helpful.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback - I'm pleased to see you were happy with your mobile home.

I'm also pleased to see our team on site were able to assist with replacing your bed frame, we do carry out reviews on our mobile homes on a monthly basis so the issue will be addressed and replaced.

Union Lido is a huge campsite isn't it - almost like a mini village! I'm glad you enjoyed your time there and we hope to see you again next summer.

Many thanks, the Al Fresco team

We have returned form Union Lido and it was a great holiday.

|The park is very well run and clean, although large it still retains a local feel and everyone if friendly. We stayed in a Puccini home which was fine but a bit on the small side (2 adults and 3 kids, 9, 6 and 4 months).
The park has 2 main pools which have lots to do, slides, lazy rivers etc, there are quite a few lifegurads on duty which makes it safe for the kids to run off and pay all day but they are a bit whistle happy sometimes. There is no need to ware swimming hats or small shorts for the men, people were whatever they want.

The supermarkets on the site are great and are very well stocked as are the various shops selling amazing fresh fruit. Ice creams are cheap and amazing 80 cents for a great Italian Gelato.
There is a great area for the kids to run riot for al long as they want so for 5 euros each, big slides bouncy castle etc. Worth the cash as they spent all night in there and came out only to drink and toilet breaks while we sat in the communal bbq area and drank great wine :-)

The beach is very clean and well kept and everything is booked through on site (beach booking system) then you pay on checkout. The sea was warm and the sand was very hot (August 2013).

We took a day trip to Venice which was really easy, buy bus and ferry tickets from the on site information centre, bus stops right outside the site and then stops a few yards to the ferry then straight to Venice, easy.
Venice is amazing but very expensive for poor quality food unless you are willing to track down some hidden gems.
Gondola was 100 euros for 1/2 hour, worth the cash and the kids loved it.

All in all the place was really nice and felt very safe for young family's, it was very hot and sticky but that's due to the time of year and humidity was high. It was very well looked after and provided us with a weeks worth of fun and relaxation in equal measure.

Will be back next year.

See my other post on traveling to and from the airport, its easy and cheap (no need for private transfer). Traveling to and from Marco Polo to Union Lido.

I have been coming to this campsite for 25 years, and leave my own caravan here permanently. It is very pretty, always tidy and spotlessly clean in every area. The beach (a blue flag beach) is one kilometre of golden sand, cleaned each day by the cleaning staff. There are lifeguards on duty both on the beach and in boats. There are plenty of restaurants, snack bars and two beach bars. There are two supermarkets, a bakery, clothes shops, a shoe shop, chemist. Pretty much everything you need for your holiday. It's virtually self sufficient. It's a 15 minute bus ride or 7-8 minutes by car to Punta Sabbioni where you can pick up the water us to Venice which takes around 40 minutes or to the islands of Burano (lace) and Murano.( glass).

There are some holiday companies with accommodation here and also some owned by Union Lido. The Union Lido accommodation seems to be better located on the site and prettier. The outside companies accommodation is further up the campsite away from the main centre of the campsite, and their outside areas appear scruffy. I would not choose to stay there.

There is plenty of evening entertainment, and their firework displays are some of the best I have seen. There is plenty to do during the day for children, adults and families. It's the kind of place where families come year after year. The friends my children made years ago are still friends, they all still come and are now bringing their own children. It's that type of place. It's a great place for s safe, clean enjoyable holiday.

Having said all that, it is not perfect. Everything in the campsite (restaurants, bars and all shops) is now much more expensive than outside, obviously for the convenience of not going out. I shop in external supermarkets now. Over a two week holiday, the extra charged for food in the supermarkets is not too much of a concern, but if you are here any longer it adds considerably to the cost of your holiday. We stay here for two months.n

There is a strict rule about bars, restaurants and entertainment, finished and closed by 11 pm. I think that in a holiday resort midnight would be fine. But, outside there is a bar where their entertainment carries on till 1 am which can be heard in accommodation in the central area of the campsite.

All in all it's definitely a great place to holiday.
