WOW – what can I say?! Incredible. We had such a great time at Il Donno. It is the smartest self-catering accommodation I have ever stayed in – everything is well thought out, truly a five-star property and I am a glass half empty critic. This property is rare in that the professional photographs are truly representative. As time goes by I anticipate that Il Donno will win TripAdvisor awards.
Fabulous, clean, small swimming pool (but perfectly sized for the property).
Comfortable loungers and parasols.
Great sound system which, through WIFI, enables guests to play their own music around the pool.
A selection of games and an awesome crocodile inflatable (which is probably intended for kids but I used it anyway!).
Very well planned and pretty gardens, verdant in places and dotted with Olive trees and other local plants. There is a little pond with fish and Lilly pads and another smaller water feature.
A couple of long tables (well-lit and with insect repelling lights) for the use of guests to dine al fresco.
A super BBQ area with a great fixed BBQ which we used on one occasion.
Everything is situated a reasonable distance from each-other in perfectly designated spots (through excellent garden design).
The property’s gardens host two young kittens, and, if, like one of my friends, you love cats then you will be in your element.
We stayed in a flat with an ocean view on the first floor and indeed it had that view on all sides! Not an oblique view either, but a full ocean blue view. Wonderful.
Spotlessly clean and tidy on arrival. Truly a credit to the property. The flat has everything one could need: a small balcony with table and chairs, a washing machine; TV; Fridge Freezer; full cooker oven etc. The beds, including the sofa bed, were comfortable, linens good, the air con worked excellently. Super and smart bathroom with good strong shower. I understand that this is the property’s second season and so everything is new and sparkling. Could not have asked for more.
They even had a casket of coffee; dry toast; and some jam as an emergency breakfast for us. Oh, and a bottle of local wine!
The property is located close to a freeway like road. This means that if the wind is moving in the wrong direction some traffic noise can be heard in the flat we stayed in but this is generally limited to rush hour traffic only. We used the air con system to mask that noise but ultimately some secondary glazing in the bedroom would probably deal effectively with this issue.
Anyone with mobility issues should ask for a room on the ground floor.
The flat felt very secure and there is external CCTV; flood lights; and entry card and code systems. Fortuitously there is also an in flat safe which we made good use of. The property itself has electronic car gates.
Good location close to Cefalu town and very close to the major road. A car is essential because the roads would not be conducive to walk along. You could probably walk to the nearby pizzeria if you wanted to in about ten minutes. Again, there is a pleasant beach within walking distance but we were advised to take the car because there is no side walk.
The property isn’t well sign posted from the main road and the map software we were using didn’t help us find the correct turning. However, we arrived in the dead of night and it is probably much easier to find by day.
I can honestly say that I have never had better hospitality in all my years of travelling – whether that be in a caravan in Hastings or a grand five-star deluxe hotel. The hospitality at Il Donno is truly what sets this property apart.
The communication with Rosa Maria and her staff was excellent from the moment we booked. Rosa Maria agreed to wait up until 0100 to let us into the flat. When we arrived in Cefalu it was more like 0140 (our plane had been delayed). Rosa Maria and her husband continued to wait for us and, when it was clear that we could not find the property, actually drove out to find us and escort us to the property. Such service is truly outstanding and we were terribly grateful.
When we met Rosa Maria and her husband they were cheerful and welcoming notwithstanding the time of day. They take due pride in the property.
The next day Rosa Maria was on hand to answer questions; offer us coffee and local schnapps (gratis); provide everything we needed (offering additional towels for the pool without prompting); booking restaurant reservations and even offering to stock up on supplies for us.
Rosa Maria, you should be the manager of the Ritz hotel!
Thank you for a wonderful stay all three of us recommend you and your property most highly.
Location to Cefalu, minutes to the Atuostrada and you were on your way to discover the beauty of Sicily! Upon arrival the warmth from RosaMarie and family. Info on the the workings of the Villa and helpful onfo were to shop and sight see. We found our home away from home! The views of the mountains and the sea and the property with the orange and lemon trees was magical. The beautiful pool and the way it was maintained was unlike any were I have ever stayed. We were Family of 8 and the 4 arpartments were perfect for us . Beautiful furnishings and well equipped for all your
Needs. We didn't want to leave and hope to return soon. A dream family vacation come true! Thank you.
