On our way from Palermo to Taormina this day we drove jaunt into the small town of Cefalu.
After a little stroll through a narrow street we came to the small square with several outside resturants and the medieval cathedral which is adorned with some of Italy's most beautiful Byzantine mosaics. Well worth taking the trip jaunt into this city
The cathedral was built in the 1100's by the Norman king Roger 2 and the mixture of Christian and Arabic architecture can be seen in the church is unique.

We went to Casteldaccia to see the wonderful people we met last year, and to once agAIN SEE WHERE MY gRANDPARENTS AND MY FATHER WHERE BORN

I love this little town, not far from Palermo. We stayed for a couple of hours, going to the government building, who helped me last year to find my father's baptism information and my Grandparents Marriage Cert. This year we where accompanied by Guiseppe from Salamone Travel from Bageria, near Palermo.
Guiseppe was wonderful to us and we will return and use his services again.

We then went to the seaside village of Cefalu, BEAUTIFUL, lovely little side streets, a Duomo that was wonderful, the sea was especially beautiful that day. First we had fried chick pea patties on a bun, great Sicilian food, which I grew up on, and then a gigantic cannoli.
Guiseppe showed us all of Cefalu and it's wonders, but never enough time, so will shall return again in 2014 Walking along the Mare was so pretty and the shells, we collected, just a wonderful day. Everyone should go, maybe will stay there 1 or 2 days next time, so we can really look around without time frames.

If you ever need a Travel Agency in Sicily Salamone Travel is a gem

From Palermo you find many capes along the 35 miles to reach Cefalù the first one is Capo Zafferano where you find some little bays.
The coast is beautiful, covered with Olive trees, villas until the town of Termini Imerese with his commercial Port and old Thermae, after you find 6 miles of beach front of industrial factories,
The beach is again beautiful after this zone wind, is stronger good for those who practice surf.
Cape Mazzaforno , Cape Santa Lucia are covered with villas hotels, there you find moorings in good wheather.
From here you can admire the Rocca of Cefalu, the Norman Cathedral the beach of Cefalù ,the Arab /Norman old town is the 2° tourist location of Sicily visited all over the year,
The Port of Cefalù is after the Rocca there you find moorig service, petrol, food and good shelter from March to November.
The port is open to strong North East winds.
Its longtime that is programmed the construction of a real Marina but until now with no results,
Speedy boats go to Eolie Islands from spring to automn.

We were there 3 weeks ago on a cruise with NCL. We took a taxi which took us about 45 minutes to get to Cefalu from Palermo port. It has a beautiful scenery of the coast and the steep mountain below which you can see the cathedral standing as the king of its castle! it only takes an hour to walk around the small cobble streets of the little village with its small shops. We had coffee and traditional sweets at the church square!! Just beautiful xxxx

The Cefalu coast has clean safe beaches with bars and trattorias bordering the promenades all the way to its small traditional town centre. The large La Rocca rock rises up like a big friendly giant to look over this relaxed seaside community. There are many lovely views out to sea and along the rocky parts of the coastline. The view of the town and the coastal landscape from the top of La Rocca is stunning.
