If you're looking for Sicilian charm, this is not your place (for that, visit Ciuci's Manor near Agrigento, it's a wonderful place). I'm sure there are other options in the heart of Cefalu as well.

The rooms are probably comparable to a Hilton perhaps. It kind of has the feel of a "business-class" hotel, without conference facilities or a bar, but definitely a step up from someplace like a Hampton Inn. The clientele was a real mix from all over the world.

We stayed in a real variety of places on our trip to Italy - we rented an apartment in Sardinia, stayed at an agriturismo (Ciuci's) near Agrigento, and stayed in some older charming places in Siracusa and Rome.

Artemis is a new hotel. And it's not in the old part of the city, which you should be able to tell by a quick check at the map. It's two blocks from the beach. And from what I could tell, it would be hard to get any sea views, but perhaps there are a few rooms with a sneak peak between buildings that face the beach. It's maybe 5 short blocks from the hotel to the edge of the old part of the town. For us, the price was right. We were able to get two adjoining rooms for about 190 Euros a night for the pair. Other recommended places were a good bit more expensive than that.

I recommend going to the "private" beach near the hotel. There's a bunch of "public" beaches along the stretch of sand intermixed with private beaches. If you like laying on a beach towel with no shade, then the public beach is fine. Through the hotel, for 10 Euros at the private beach you get two beach chairs and a large umbrella for the day.

Siamo Americane. So we're used to A/C. And I'm thinking that I'm obsessed with A/C since I've mentioned it in at least two other reviews of places we stayed on our trip. But especially for visits to the beach on a hot summer day, we really need that A/C break. Many more traditional and more charming places in Italy have no A/C at all or it's a small wall unit. When you're used to strong A/C on a hot summer day after visiting the beach, it's definitely a plus.

General note: Cefalu is a perfect place to visit for families with children. You can spend the day at the beach and combine that with mornings and evenings visiting the old part of Cefalu. We also visited Siracusa on our trip. That was definitely the lowest point for our two boys, ages 8 and 14. My wife and I enjoyed wandering Siracusa for a day. My boys couldn't imagine doing anything less interesting (fortunately, we discovered an Archimedes Museum in Siracusa, which they did enjoy). Cefalu gives you a chance to explore an old Sicilian town with a good mix of restaurants but also gives you a nice beach vacation as well.

Another general note: Especially wit kids, unless you're really really into ancient Greek ruins, pick one place to visit in Sicily. We saw some in Siracusa, which were fine. The ones in Agrigento were far better of course. We didn't visit others. My boys would have mutinied if we did. Instead, visit an agriturismo and explore some of the countryside of Sicily. It's beautiful.

Hotel Artemis is a 5 minute walk from Cefalu train station and is also less than 5 minutes from the beach making it a great location in the busy seaside town of Cefalu. its a 10 minute walk to the old part of the town so not too noisy at night. It offers a good but not wide choice of breakfast but the key to the success of the hotel is the staff - with the front of house staff being friendly and helpful regardless of the time of day. rooms are big and airy and very clean although my room had the smallest shower i have ever seen! only complaint for a modernized hotel is that the room walls seem to be a bit thin!

We stayed in the Artemis Hotel for 3 nights in May. the room we had was absolutely huge, with a dining room, living room, bedroom and a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. It had two balconies and a view of the sea. It was about 2 blocks from the beach and although not in the old town, was within essy walking distance. It also was close to the train station, and car rental place. The breakfasts were amazing, with every kind of pastry, fruit, yogurt and cheese and proscuitto. For an extra €3 you could order scrambled eggs and bacon. the bacon was a large piece of back bacon. Very decision. The staff spoke very good English and were really helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel and when we return to Cefalu we will be sure to return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view.

I chose the Artemis for a few days enjoying the beach and was not disappointed. The hotel is clean, recently modernised, offers free wifi, and is conveniently situated a few minutes walk from the train station, and also just five minutes from the sea front. The Cefalu beach was a real pleasure -- beautiful blue sea, not too crowded, plenty of space to sit even if you didn't want to fork out 10 euros for a day's supply of umbrellas and loungers. The old town is a bit further away -- maybe 10 minutes walk along a rather noisy street -- but worth the effort, even on a hot day. Staff were friendly and helpful, though somewhat ill-informed about the ferry services. Breakfast was OK with reasonable coffee, and eggs only if you paid eggstra! You can eat your breakfast on a terrace outside if you don't mind the traffic noise.

Staid here in the end of May - beg. of June 2012. The hotel is almost perfect for its 4 stars. There are 2 minor points:
1. Poor choice breakfast. There are three choices of ham and one choice of cheese. For european 4 star hotel it is not acceptable. Moreover, there were couple of apples and pears, yoghurt and cereals as well as three types of pastries. If you like to have fried eggs you should pay 4-5 EUR. I am not a fan of eating fried eggs in the morning but for wide range of people it is important and it is not acceptable for 4 star hotel not to have warm dishes for breakfast and charge fried eggs in amount of 4-5 EUR. At the same time I should mention that you can ask for espresso, cappuccino or latte from the coffee machine free of charge which seems to be a good substitution for really bad instant coffee from the jug standing nearby.
2. Second minor point is the Internet access. It is available just at the reception area and in one part of breakfast area. It is free of charge, but be informed that you would have to ask for login and password at the reception and you would need to enter this login and password every time when you switch on your device which seems not to be really sufficient. The reception area is not really big and there are just three chairs there so you you feel not really comfortable while using Internet there.

These two minuses covers all negative from this hotel. All others are huge pluses and I would rate this hotel as a really good one. Positive points are following:
1. The hotel is very new. The outside design is nothing special but from the very beginning you feel that designers were smart enough as it is really comfortable stay here.
2. Room is equipped with individual air condition system which is really powerful.
3. Room is equipped with rather big minibar so you can store your own drinks there. Minibar freeze on a good level (which is not common for hotel minibars) so you can always have good cold drinks there.
4. Bathroom is very clean and big. Sanitary is really good quality (Ideal Standard), very new, clean and comfortable to use. Towels are thick and large enough.
5. Safe box available which size is enough for a big camera, ipad and all staff you like to put it.
5. Our room was equipped with a balcony with two chairs and table.
6. Sleeping quality really good, bed sheets were changed every second day. The bed is a little bit short for me (my height is 190 cm) but it is compensated by a good width. Pillows are ok, not too thin.
7. Everything in this hotel is really clean except couple of glasses in breakfast room (management should pay more attention). Staff is friendly but speaks lack of English anyway you can manage this small problem by spending a little more time for discussion.
8. Way to the beach is 3-4 minutes, you are directly passing a good supermarket on your left to buy some fruits, drinks, sandwiches, snacks or whatever. Way to the center of Cafalu takes 15 minutes along the sea.
9. Free parking available 5 minutes from the hotel. Moreover there are 5-6 parking spaces in the underground parking. Take care – the entrance/way out is too steep.

My impression is really positive and I would surely recommend this hotel to everybody.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a higher floor with a balcony. You would be able to have some sort of sea and mount...

I booked into the Artemis last minute after having had a horrific experience with the orginal hotel I'd booked (Palazzo Villelmi, vile flea pit - don't every stay here!). The staff are wonderful, always happy to help and really friendly - I think I was probably a bit of a sorry sight when I arrived after having battled it out at the original hotel so the Artemis staff were probably even nicer than usual but all throughout my stay they were great!

The room was big and clean. Shower preassure at all times was strong and the bathroom itself was also a decent size.

The rooms have an easily workable safe, and most come with a balcony. I was on the first floor so had a mini patio which was a nice bonus.

Bed nice and big, and most importantly very comfortable - I suffer from back problems but slept really well here.

Breakfast is a decent selection - anything cooked is at extra cost, but the charges are minimal and really, if the wethers hot, who wants hot food?

No room service or restaurant, but a 10 minute walk away you've got a huge selection of dining options. Bar is open after siesta until around 22:00.

Great location - post office, 2 supermarkets and chemist are paces away and about 5 minutes down the road is the lovely beach. The old town is a nice 10 minute walk from the hotel. In terms of area, as a single woman I felt more than comfortable walking back late at night and was happy to be out of the hussel of the central old town as that meant significantly less noise to deal with.

I got a great deal on bookng.com, so probably worth checking rates on there.

Would really recommend this hotel to anyone who's visiting Cefalu for a relaxing holiday!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the edges of the building as there can be some road noise

My wife and I stayed here in May, 2012 during our visit to Cefalu while touring Sicily. The Artemis was very clean, seemed almost new. Location was quite good, just a block or two from the beach and slightly longer to historic town center.....certainly easy walking distance. Artemis would be a good choice for you if you are looking for clean comfortable lodging while visiting Cefalu.
