First impressions when we drove up were great and the expansive gardens and parking area were unexpected. Rooms and interior were somewhat forgettable but we were only staying one night. Very short walk to lakeside, restaurants etc so very convenient. The hotel's restaurant looked nice with an attractive open-sided area but we did not eat there. For us Cernobbio itself was eclipsed by other lakeside towns so we had no desire to stay longer.

When first finding the hotel we were amazed. It has a grand entryway into a gravel parking lot that was almost empty. The hotel/restaurant is stunning and very beautiful. The eager to please staff speak a little English, a bit more French, and we got by with a combo of English, Italian and French.

Our room must have been one of the best in the hotel, with French doors opening onto a little balcony with a nice view of the mountains. The room was not extremely luxurious, but large, comfortable and clean, the bathroom was also large and had a nice shower. The wifi worked without problem. The manager showed us the restaurant and gardens, explaining that they were open if we cared to dine there, and that in the summer they were very lush and beautiful, with pergolas over the dining area, I could see in a few weeks it would be very busy. There is a hotel dog who is a sweet heart.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Lago di Como, where there are a few outdoor cafes a lovely lake walk and ferry service. We took a 5 euro spin on a ferry that made two stops and returned, just to get on the water. It was worth it. Lunch in a cafe looking out on the pedestrian square was relaxing and a stroll down some of the small lanes outside the central area proved delightful. We ended up not having dinner at the hotel, but at an outdoor restaurant in the city. We had to check out early, so we didn't get to enjoy the breakfast included with our room.

When checking out I did notice an old photo of the hotel/restaurant. It must have been from the beginning of the 20th century. Due to the fact we had to leave so early, the morning staff were just arriving and had to reboot the computer system so our check out took a bit longer than expected. That was understandable and in no way detracted from the pleasure we had staying at this hotel.

We spent the first night of our journey from Italy to UK in this nice little hotel with plenty private parking. Though actually just off the street we heard very little traffic noise and were lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waterfall just up the road from the hotel.

Though the room was somewhat spartan and cold (in the cosiness sense, heating was fine) it and the bathroom were perfectly adequate and very clean. The friendly and helpful staff made up for the minor shortcomings of the room; in particular, the multilingual maitre d, a born showman, was very entertaining. We had a most enjoyable meal in the restaurant, which is located in a gorgeous room.

All in all, an excellent choice that did not cost the earth, as many places do in this lovely touristy part of the world.

Set back a few blocks into Cernobbio, in a quiet neighborhood. Historic property recently renovated. Real grotto in basement; perfect wine cellar. Terrific breakfast in the gorgeous dining room (dinner there is divine). Comfy room. Run by nice folks. Good value.

My wife and I have been to Italy many times, and this was by far the most enjoyable stay we've had. It's not luxurious or anything, but it's simple, clean and in a wonderful location. The staff is very courteous and helpful. Cernobbio is a wonderful charming little town that's far enough from Milan and Como to be quite and secluded, but close enough by car. It's in a very strategic location. Como is 5 minutes away by car or a 10 minute ferry ride (cost 2.5 Euros each way). Milan is about 45 minutes away via the Autostrada. You're also only 45 minutes away from Lugano Switzerland by car. Lugano is beautiful and a must see if you go to northern Italy. Anyone who's been to Italy knows how difficult and expensive parking can be. Having free parking at Terzo Crotto was very nice. I've been to hotels that claim to have "free Wifi", but you have to be at a particular floor or location in the hotel to get it. Not the case at Terzo Crotto. We could easily get Wifi from anywhere in the hotel including the parking lot. The breakfast was very nice. It had everything you could ask for in a breakfast. The restaurant setting is very nice which made breakfast even more enjoyable. We heard a lot of good things about the restaurant but we unfortunately did not get to try it. If the food is anywhere near as good as the service, then it must be very good. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we will definitely go back.

Room Tip: This hotel only has 8 rooms. The choice is very limited and not all the rooms have a nice view. Our...

I absolutely loved this hotel. I have done plenty of research before booking rooms for my family and I at this hotel. It is small and cozy, the location is great, the staff is extremely nice and helpful, and the restaurant is very nice (not to mention the waiter was the best waiter we have ever had).
I will 100% book the same hotel if I am lucky enough to be in that area again.

Room Tip: The hotel has a total of 8 rooms; only some of the rooms have a balcony although the rates are the s...

We were driving From Switzerland to Monaco and needed a place in between to stay for the night. Terzo Crotto fit that criteria very well as they had a parking lot and also free wifi. The room was quite spartan but bathroom was very good and spacious. The hotel is very close to the lake. You can take the boats to the other small towns. We did also have dinner in Terzo Crotto and enjoyed it very much. Also breakfast was very good. Overall Cernobbio looked like a very good base to discover the lake Como and we would definitely consider staying in Terzo Crotto again.
