“Great Restaurant”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel while passing through the area. The hotel is situated near to the center of Cernobbio, and has ample car parking. The rooms are adequate and represent good value for money. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant is excellent.

The 3 star hotel has a charming exterior set in a garden, with a spacious gravel car park.
The bedroom was disappointingly small and had lost the old world charm expected by the exterior. The bedroom was Recently refurbished with industrial conduit covering the electrics and three grotesque modern art pieces in the room. The room was quiet even though it overlooked the car park. The new bathroom was large and nicely done.
An ample breakfast was served in a charming room that still had the old world charm.
We ate in the restaurant which was beautiful, and the food and service excellent.

This is a typical 3 star Italian hotel except for the excellent restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and quiet with efficient air conditioning. We stayed here for 10 nights to attend a wedding and discover the pleasures of Lake Como. This hotel is in a quiet position within a short stroll of the lake front. The car parking is large and free.
We had 3 evening meals in the restaurant, all of which were of the highest standard with very good service and a very helpful manager. The breakfast buffet included a fresh fruit salad every day with extra fruit such as cherries, water melon or a fruit selection. Freshly squeezed orange juice was offered on most mornings.
My only suggestion would be that the small room safe should be secured to the floor of the wardrobe.

Room Tip: Room 109 was at the end of the corridor and was very peaceful. Larger than I had expected with a sm...

We stayed for three nights at the Hotel Terzo Crotto in Cernobbio and loved it. The building is spectacular from the outside, particularly the restaurant patio and facade. Breakfast was included and we spent each morning on the patio, waking up with the sun. Because of this, we didn't try the restaurant for dinner, though it was close enough to downtown Cernobbio as well as a relatively short drive to Como (15 min) and Tremezzo (40 min) to fully explore the dinning choices of the area.

Breakfast was very nice with fresh made juices and fantastic, huge cups of fresh brewed espresso. There was also a selection of meat and cheese slices and rolls, eggs, and croissants to load up on energy for the day. We really began to feel like locals, sitting and relaxing on the terrace, sipping our second cups of cappuccino each morning.

The rooms themselves were the only let down. They were in no way bad, just didn't quite live up to the expectation set by the exterior of the building and the restaurant. I would say only that they were spartan. The bed was comfy, water pressure was great, and most importantly, the AC actually cooled down the room. With that, I really can't complain.

Service was excellent and though we continually badgered them about our luggage the airline lost arriving, they also answered with a smile and even helped us place a call in Italian to the airline.

Parking was also very convenient though difficult to figure out the first time. As mentioned, the location was very convenient as it is a short walk to many restaurants as well as the lakeside pier. It's also pretty centrally located on the lake between Como and Tremezzo and made a great base of operations for our stay in the region.

First impressions when we drove up were great and the expansive gardens and parking area were unexpected. Rooms and interior were somewhat forgettable but we were only staying one night. Very short walk to lakeside, restaurants etc so very convenient. The hotel's restaurant looked nice with an attractive open-sided area but we did not eat there. For us Cernobbio itself was eclipsed by other lakeside towns so we had no desire to stay longer.

When first finding the hotel we were amazed. It has a grand entryway into a gravel parking lot that was almost empty. The hotel/restaurant is stunning and very beautiful. The eager to please staff speak a little English, a bit more French, and we got by with a combo of English, Italian and French.

Our room must have been one of the best in the hotel, with French doors opening onto a little balcony with a nice view of the mountains. The room was not extremely luxurious, but large, comfortable and clean, the bathroom was also large and had a nice shower. The wifi worked without problem. The manager showed us the restaurant and gardens, explaining that they were open if we cared to dine there, and that in the summer they were very lush and beautiful, with pergolas over the dining area, I could see in a few weeks it would be very busy. There is a hotel dog who is a sweet heart.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Lago di Como, where there are a few outdoor cafes a lovely lake walk and ferry service. We took a 5 euro spin on a ferry that made two stops and returned, just to get on the water. It was worth it. Lunch in a cafe looking out on the pedestrian square was relaxing and a stroll down some of the small lanes outside the central area proved delightful. We ended up not having dinner at the hotel, but at an outdoor restaurant in the city. We had to check out early, so we didn't get to enjoy the breakfast included with our room.

When checking out I did notice an old photo of the hotel/restaurant. It must have been from the beginning of the 20th century. Due to the fact we had to leave so early, the morning staff were just arriving and had to reboot the computer system so our check out took a bit longer than expected. That was understandable and in no way detracted from the pleasure we had staying at this hotel.

We spent the first night of our journey from Italy to UK in this nice little hotel with plenty private parking. Though actually just off the street we heard very little traffic noise and were lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waterfall just up the road from the hotel.

Though the room was somewhat spartan and cold (in the cosiness sense, heating was fine) it and the bathroom were perfectly adequate and very clean. The friendly and helpful staff made up for the minor shortcomings of the room; in particular, the multilingual maitre d, a born showman, was very entertaining. We had a most enjoyable meal in the restaurant, which is located in a gorgeous room.

All in all, an excellent choice that did not cost the earth, as many places do in this lovely touristy part of the world.
