There is no place in the US, or few in the world, which can match the elegance, history, and location of this remarkable Hotel. It simply oozes luxury and classic style. The lake views and gardens/estate grounds are beautiful. While the grandeur of the hotel takes you back to the centuries of its celebrated history, it's in great condition.

Our room was on an upper floor (318) and had a wonderful lake view. The buffet breakfast is great, but we found ourselves simply opening our windows for the lake view and and enjoying a continental breakfast in our room, and repeating for cocktails or a glass of wine at the end of the day.

The Grill and the main dining room serve great choices and the service is impeccable.

The complimentary minibar is stuffed with snacks and many beverage choices and replenished on demand. Room service is quick. We never waited for ice more than 5 minutes.

Villa D'Este is very expensive, but I have to admit worth it.

Nearby Cernobbio is a charming little village with water taxi service to several other stops on Lake Como. The city of Como offers very little upscale shopping and for the most part has not much charm. But Bellagio is 180 degrees literally and figuratively speaking.

Room Tip: Upper floor, lakeview

Amazing hotel, such a treat! We stayed here for our honeymoon as couldn't have been better... Even thought it was over €1,000 a night it was well worth the splurge, felt very special... Breakfast was amazing!!! And wow the views, in the evening it was lovely relaxing on the terrace listening to the piano... The building is stunning!! And the walk up through the hills is a lovely way to start the day. You can hire a boat to go to the near by areas, which were all wonderful. We did a day trip to Milan but looking back wish we had stayed put. Will be returning! Sister hotel in Florence villa d'masa is also amazing!

Nothing was too much trouble for the great staff here, who are multilingual, in a manicured garden setting. Superb views with plenty to see around the lake towards Como, with the option to use a boat to avoid the roads and parking!
Sit on the terrace and relax with tea and in my case a cigar, enjoy your stay it's wonderful here.

An institution on Lake Como and a place all aspire to stay - it's history is evident in every nook and cranny  and it well deserves it's good reputation. The hotel is in two old palaces right on lakes edge and with its own pool and landing stage. The gardens are beautiful and extensive and the grounds are huge - be aware you need to walk a lot if you are staying in the smaller villa which has its own concierge and valet service.

Rooms in old Italianate style, sumptuous and elaborate in dramatic rich colour, drapes, materials and lines lovely. Our room in the Queens Pavilion was very large with a sitting space and small desk. The balcony was tiny but lovely to open the doors for the fabulous lake view and fresh air.

Bathroom dripping with marble but single sink and smallish with bath and shower. Walk in robe and plenty of luggage and hanging space.

Service polite and professional with some friendly, especially concierge in Queens Pavilion who was exceptional but main desk concierge in the Cardinal Building sometimes grouchy and unhelpful.

La Veranda Restaurant reccomended - see my review for more. Ten minute walk to ferry wharf or easy stroll to,Cernobbio shops.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a lake view

Villa d'Este is, without doubt, one of the world's greatest hotels. You may find more expensive resorts, bungalows perched on exotic beaches, luxurious palaces in Engadine or nightmarish skyscrapers in Dubai, but the sheer elegance of this extremely refined hotel is peerless. 'Luxe, Calme et Volupté' dominate every inch of this marvellous hotel and its park, whose fascination gets even better during the week-end of the classic-cars 'Concorso, the most elegant and stylish in the world. The 'La Veranda' restaurant is stylish and unique for its setting facing the park of the Villa, and food is excellent without any unacceptable extravagance....
Luxurious elegance comes at a price, so you cannot say that Villa d'Este is cheap; but it is the best, and money spent here looks adequate to the overall pleasure of staying there.

Room Tip: A nice large suite facing the lake.....
