“Old-fashioned grace”
Reviewed 5 July 2012

I spent three relaxing nights at the Hotel Regina Olga. Our first floor (2nd floor by US standards) corner room had a lovely view of the lake and a small patio facing the pool. The bathroom was huge and modern. The breakfast was good and the location great. The only thing that had me a bit horrified was the flat screen TV they were getting ready to place in the classically appointed lobby -- that will be a travesty to an elegantly quiet environment. The large veranda is perfect for sipping prosecco.

Room Tip: Corner room facing pool on one side and lake on the other is great.

We stayed here twice and had a third floor lake view room with balcony (not many rooms have balconies with views so if preferred, book early and be specific!). The rooms are a good size but are a little frayed around the edges and would benefit from a little t l c without losing the old fashioned charm. I have never had dinner in the restaurant, and breakfasts are average - plenty of choice but not too tasty. As an alternative, there are a couple of bakeries around the corner which serve lovely coffee and pasteries for a couple of euro. The hotel is facing the main square and a couple of minutes walk to the boat which will take you up the lake to places like delightful Bellagio, Villa Carlotta or Menaggio, or in to Como which is only 10 minutes away. The proximity to the main square means there is a lot of noise at night. The refuse collection is also done at 6am, so be warned! Cernobbio has a good selection of restaurants - Il Vapore (expensive but great food) and Harry's Bar are very popular, while Tom and Jerrys pizzeria on the main street has great food at excellent prices. The hotel is very popular with business guests and has a slightly formal atmosphere. There is a nice small pool with sun loungers to relax after a days sightseeing, and is never too full. This is an old style hotel which suits the elegant charm of Lake Como perfectly.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms on the higher floors have amazing views, but the views from the opposite side of the...

Just like Mrs Hulme_11, we too spent a week in this hotel with Riviera Travel. On arrival we were pretty impressed by the exterior and foyer of this hotel. It had a sort of 'faded grandeur' charm about it. Our room was spacious and could not be faulted. The staff also were very pleasant and efficient. The only downside to The Regina Olga was in the catering department. Breakfasts were ample and there was definitely something to suit every taste. However, as is the case with many buffet breakfasts, the 'hot' choices tended to consist of lukewarm items. This was also the case at dinner.Too often the main courses had been left open to the elements, on an ineffectual burner, for far too long, resulting in congealed pasta/soggy potatoes etc. Salad choices were also pretty uninspiring. The hotel location is ideal - right next to the lakeside. Cernobbio itself is quite pretty but after a couple of days, a few nice walks and a few drinks in its three bars, one feels the need for a bit more nightlife. (Not the fault of the hotel, however!)

This was the fourth time that we have stayed in this hotel, and we like it just as much! This time we spent a whole week there, and had a lovely room on the third floor, overlooking the lake. As other travellers have pointed out, some refurbishment is needed, but we just enjoy the old-style service and charm of the place.

We are not keen on the restaurant, so we ate at neighbouring restaurants each night. Breakfasts are satisfactory.

Staff are helpful; outdoor pool is lovely; useful having a free car park; but a shame that they charge for the Internet connection.

We shall return!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor, overlooking the lake.

Prime location on beautiful Cernobio front of the port & main square! 8' drive to Como town! Old style but cute & spacious with free parking. A value for money selection with an amazing view (especially 2nd & 3 Ed floor)!

Just back from a wonderful week sightseeing around this area arranged by Riviera Travel, and we feel that as previous reviewers have said, although the staff are great, the food is passable (not 4 star though ie 2 choices only ) and the hotel looks wonderful from the outside, it really does need a wash and brush up! ie refurbishment.
The decor is dated in the style of 1980s - but more seriously our en-suite stank. We reported this to the manager/reception on our first day (and a broken fridge) but nothing changed. We were on the top floor (4th) ...but couldn't see that as causing a plumbing problem. I tried every combination of flushing water down every plug in the room adn closing the door/ leaving open wiht the window open etc - no effect. It smelled as if there was something rotting somewhere .....
it may jus thave been this room .....however the lack of problem-solving was the real problem. Sorry to say this as it may damn the hotel for other tavellers - but it did take away from the holiday overall. additionally, there was inadequate storage space in the bedroom, and the beds rolled around on the floor (not jsut during the earthquake!).
Apart from that, the service was excellent, but again the public areas need re-vamped - seating was uncomfortable. the breakfast was not bad, and 24 wi-fi for E5 was good.

During a brief, last minute business trip to Lake Como, we booked ourselves into the Regina Olga Hotel.

The front desk staff was friendly and the hotel was clean and well located. Still, it's tired and probably living on its location and history.

Our room (lake facing!) was small and the bed and bedding were poor -- we both had back aches the next morning. We would not have stayed a second night. The breakfast (and the breakfast staff) was uninspiring.

It's a good value for a great location but there must be something better without paying for the Villa D'este.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a lake view room -- the views are amazing.
