I recently travelled to Lake Como and had thought of basing the trip in Como. Was so happy to have found this hotel only minutes outside of Como town , right by the jetty for picking up ferries to the rest of the lake.

Everything about the hotel was excellent. Comfortable, clean, friendly ,welcoming. Stayed on bed and breakfast basis- excellent breakfast. Pool is large and was quiet .
no need to be in Como at all.

Its major appeal is that it is on the lake. The neighboring Villa d'Este is a five star hotel and the difference between the two is not ONE but a whole galaxy of stars. Here the staff is unfriendly and borderline rude. Most don't speak English even those at the reception. And they give incomplete or incorrect information and even that reluctantly. When I asked for transportation to the Como train station, they told me to take a taxi which cost 10 euros while the bus with a stop two minutes away from the hotel takes you to the same place in minutes for 1.30 euro.

When I inquired about transportation from the airport in Milan to the hotel, they advised me to take a taxi for 110 euros, but I found out on my own that there is a train leaving several times an hour from inside the Milan terminal and cost only 8.10 euros to Como from where it is only a short 10 euro taxi ride to the hotel.

The rooms are gloomy and sparsely furnished but whatever furniture there is, is dark and ugly. The beds have little wheels so the beds slide at the slightest touch, probably making it easy for the cleaning staff to change the linen, but of no help to those wanting to sleep in them.

Located 1 block from the Villa d'Este (one of the top hotels in the world) is this moderately priced hotel sharing the same view as the aforementioned hotel and just a few steps from the ferry. Although the decor is simple and the rooms may be small, the hotel offers great value for exploration of Lake Como. There are nearby restaurants and the hotel's restaurant was good as well. The included breakfast was standard.

The Regina Olga does not compare well with other hotels in the Lakes and certainly does not deserve four stars. Its main asset is its location by the lake and handy for the ferry landing stage; but the rooms feel cramped with old, ugly, oversized furniture. There was nowhere to put our suitcases, for example (mine spent the two nights we were there under the sink); the safe in my room didn't work but I couldn't get anyone to come and fix it despite repeated requests.

The food is actually quite good but it's inexcusable to have only tinned fruit at the breakfast buffet when Italy in June is a cornucopia of strawberries, cherries etc.

I was very glad only to be staying two nights and to move on to something more contemporary, but characterful, in Stresa.

We just returned from a 3 week vacation in Italy which included 6 nights at the Regina Olga. The staff was exceptional - courteous, friendly and helpful. Our room was both spacious and well decorated. The buffet breakfast was among the best we have enjoyed anywhere. Obviously, improvements have been made since some of the other reviews as there is also a computer located in a common area for easy access to the InterNet and e-mail at a minimal charge. We truly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it highly.

Research for a girlfriends getaway to Lake Como led us to the Regina Olga. Not able to afford the Villa D'Este, we selected the hotel because it had a pool in our price range. Once we arrived, we were very happy with our selection of hotel. If you're there for the lake and scenery, then the Regina Olga is where you want to be. The location is impossible to beat! The service of the staff is impeccable. Firstly, our reservation was made via email. The hotel also arranged a car service to bring us to/fro the Malpensa, all via email. And it all worked without a hitch. Our room was not lake view, but we did not mind because we had a balcony on the town side of the hotel, where we enjoyed sipping vino and listening to church bells while watching this sweet village buzz. All modern amenities. The hotel was clean, and the staff was welcoming & helpful. Buon viaggio!

After flying into Milan from LA with two kids (6 & 3) the Regina Olga was a great way to start the trip. Only a 45-minute drive from Malpensa, this hotel is perfectly situated overlooking a small piazza and the lake.

High ceiling adjoining rooms were authentically European and the kids loved watching the ferry boats zip back & forth to the dock close by.

Cernobbio is a quiet little town, which was perfect since we found Bellagio touristy to stay there and Como way too industrial. The hotel had great breakfast and kids loved rocking on the swinging couches at the pool and in the garden. We only took the car out of the underground parking lot for a quick 45-minute drive to Lugano for Swiss Miniature and a better cable car ride than the one in Como.

The only annoying thing was twice during our three night stay (on a Saturday and an Monday night) the Villa D'Este launched a firework show at 11:30 PM!! A little too much "Shock & Awe" for the kids who had gone to sleep at a normal hour. Also, I can imagine in the summer that the piazza might get a bit noisy as the locals enjoy the warm nights.

Don't miss the "secret garden" about a 10-15 minute walk up the hill. The hotel didn't even suggest it. We discovered it ourselves by following signs and came upon this beautifully lush garden that we all loved.

Finally, if putting the hotel on a credit card, don't let the hotel "lock in a rate for you." It seemed like a scam and Mastercard will give you that day's prevailing rate anyway. NOTE: CITIBANK charges 3% for every charge over there so consider which card you use.
