“great food and great service”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

we enjoyed a one week stay in July with perfect weather. Breakfast and dinner were served on a nice terace overlooking the kids play area. As soon as our kids finished their meals, they could run off and we always knew where they were. There is an evening entertainment program for kids.
The beach is partly a bit rocky and not too wide.

We spent splendid 4 weeks (me, my husband and our 7months baby) in a studio (one room and small kitchen - the smallest and cheapest type of non hotel accommodation).
The resort is situated in a pine park, where the air is so pure and full of pine smell.
The beach is nice, though the entrance into the sea is quite full of large stones, also be careful with streams, the sea is more dangerous than it seems.
In september there were lots of children from newborns to preschool age.
There is a very nice family restaurant (la grilia) near the residence to bring some diversity in your dining.
We have booked the same studio for the next year - it speaks louder than other words). One of the happiest holidays of my life.

Situated in a calm and peaceful area far from the madding crowd (at least in September) we had a lovely recuperative stay here. The proximity to the beach enhanced our stay. The rooms are clean, cool and spacious with great sleep quality. Staff were courteous helpful and attentive. Breakfast was good although the coffee was always a bit burnt.
We ate one evening there and it was adequate but nothing that would deserve any accolade.

Very nice location in the middle of a pine tree forest, private beach access with beach bar. You have the possibility to eat in two different restaurants in the evening. Good and friendly service and room standards are generous. The location of the hotel is just outside the picturesque town of Castiglione della Piscaia where you have plenty of choices for good evening meals and activities - by bike 20 minutes & by car 10 minutes.

The hotel is also family oriented with activities for children and I liked the possibility to buy groceries in the hotels own store.

Room Tip: Usually the bungalows will give you more privacy during your stay. You have the choice between thes...

These were our first holidays as a family with our baby girl and I must say that the stay will be unforgettable for the great time we had in this resort, even though there are a few but small negative sides.
The resort is very big and quite old. It is located in a pine tree forest, that offers a good protection from the heat in Tuscany. We decided to stay in the main building that is also the hotel, but the bungalows are well hidden and scattered among the pine tree forest.
The age of the resort gives a nice patina to the hotel. The rooms are partly renovated and comfortable, even though not being up to date with big modern resorts. The air conditioning works well and silently, which is a relief with the hot temperatures outside.
Food is maybe the best asset of the resort. We had two weeks of perfect and varied Italian cuisine served from experienced, quick and friendly staff.
The resort has a private beach, were you get your deck-chair and umbrella for the time of your stay, so there is no fighting for the best place on the beach.
Another positive point goes to the care of the young guests. Every evening, we had our table prepared with the baby-chair. The evenings also featured a "baby-dance", a kind of disco event for the kids. Very funny to watch...
Despite all the positive aspects, the age of the resort gives a few negatives points, even though Roccamare is not meant to be compared with a modern sport/spa resort. The swimming pool is a bit outdated and should be replaced and the outside of the building should be refurbished, especially the beach bar which is all but comfortable.
Also, we had to fight for another room the night of our arrival as our assigned room was a smoking room. It took some time to argue with the staff of the reception, but in the end we got a non smoking room, along with a fruit basket and a bunch of flowers.

When you can't get a holiday out of your mind it has either been the perfect or a disaster. At Hotel Roccamare it is ALWAYS superb. We have just returned following our 14th stay at Roccamare in this most beautiful part of Tuscany. The staff are amazing and take that extra step to make you feel welcome and look after your every need. The hotel is exceptionally clean, bed linen, towels changed each day. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hotel is set in acres of grounds with pine trees leading down to the sea and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing which is somewhat surprising as Roccamare is very much a family hotel, which we love. Families tend to stay in the villas. We go in September when it is not just as hot and perhaps a little quieter. You have a choice of restaurants although if you choose half board you dine in the La Rocca, we book half board because the food is superb, in true Italian style, is excellent value for money and they have a good wine list. La Piscina is first rate for family dining, great pizzas and a minute from the beach so just right to pop in for lunch. From the moment we arrive we completely relax and seeing guests who have shared this experience with us over the years just adds to the pleasure. The beach is only a short walk from your hotel room and once there you are allocated your own chairs and parasol. A little piece of heaven on earth.

Room Tip: We prefer the pine wood side which still has sea views and is perhaps a little quieter.

The beach area is very nice but we had sellers contacting us all the time which was anoying. The rooms are nice but very expensive. The food was not up to Italian standard. The pine wood was awful and not charming at all.
