“The very best of Tuscany”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

The perfect stay! Our room was large and beautiful and our view was splendid. Every encounter we had with staff and management was pleasant. We were traveling with a few other couples and we all experienced similar encounters with housekeeping, front desk and restaurant personnel. We all felt welcome and appreciated everywhere.

The grounds were beautiful. Our meals were everything we could ask for.

I don't use the term perfection often, but it fits at this resort. We had not a single complaint. I highly recommend L'andana to anyone. Groups, couples, families. 100 stars!!

Room Tip: They are all good. Our group had 12 rooms in total and everyone was happy.

BEAUTIFUL grounds - my husband described just the drive through the Cyprese-lined driveway as "magic" (and that was after the early-morning 150km drive from PSA).

The staff greets you immediately, remembering every tiny request/special touch you like, as if you are old friends returning.

Despite other reviews, the food is actually top-notch: extremely fresh and well thought-out. The sparkling wine Andane is absolutely yummy, as are the inventive dishes on the Trattoria Toscana menu.

There is plenty to do at L'Andana and the service is fantastic - we stayed for three days and it simply wasn't long enough!

Day 1: Buffet Lunch, Touring the grounds, Tennis, Dinner at Trattoria Toscana
Day 2: Big Breakfast, Spent the day at the beach club, late afternoon in old town Castiglione Della Pescaia, early evening at the Spa, wine and dessert at Trattoria Toscana
Day: Big Breakfast, driving range and walk up to the old church before departing

We will have to return for the great food/wine, the grounds, and activities available.

Room Tip: Rm 27 is quite a sizeable Jr Suite, far enough from reception to feel completely private but still c...

In a nutshell.... overpriced and overhyped.

A real shame. It could be such a great hotel... lovely location in the middle of an estate with good access to surrounding towns. Friendly and helpful staff.

But then it stops there.... there are so many things wrong with the hotel that just should not be wrong in a hotel of this calibre :

(1) The restaurants allow dogs into the restaurant. The staff go up and stroke and pat the dogs, and then do not wash their hands before serving other people ! Disgusting !

(2) The menu (both at breakfast and dinner) is unexciting and does not change. We asked the reception to check with the chef about dinner, he called the kitchen and confirmed the dinner menu would not be changing..... and that "maybe something might be added, if the chef felt inspired, otherwise it would not change at all". The breakfast menu doesn't change either... and the selection of fruit was particularly disappointing given the hotel's location in the middle of the Tuscan countryside !

(3) The finish on the room is terrible.... there are large gaps and holes (see photos) and the cleaning staff do not check the lights are functioning... I have had the same dead lightbulb for the duration of my stay.

(4) The cleaning staff don't bother knocking .... I forgot to set the "do not disturb" setting on my door, luckily I still left the chain on the door because the cleaner just tried to barge in without knocking, ringing the bell or otherwise announcing herself.

We stayed at L'Andana as a stopover in Tuscany between Rome and Florence. It was a bit off the beaten path, but it was completely worth the trip. The hotel doesn't quite exlain this well, but because it is in such a remote location, it is very difficult to call your own taxi or cab. Therefore, the hotel arranges a car service for a nominal extra fee. At first we didn't understand this, so we tried to call our own cab. It ended up being the same price and we had to wait some time for the cab to arrive. For the convenience and comfort of a nice transport vehicle, just let the hotel arrange the car service. Also, another warning, if you're planning to stay several days and are usually very active, there are only limited activities to do. We enjoyed the complimentary driving range and putting greens, tennis, wine tasting, and biking. The coutryside is breathtaking and the beautiful grounds for the estate were immaculate. The hotel service was attentive, but not overly intrusive, and the food was divine (although pricey). We had some of our best italian meals on the property. Thank you, L'Andana for a memorable and relaxing stay!

Room Tip: Get a room facing the pool. You will have a breathtaking view of the Tuscan sunset over the rolling...

Great location and good staff, everything was a bit pretentious. The spa facilities were not extensive and the service was delayed sometimes. A high price to pay for the food and we kind of got the impression that this was because there were no other facilities near by. Extortion ? All in all a purpose built hotel to generate high income in a great setting.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the most beautiful suites we've ever seen. The grounds and property are gorgeous . The service was immaculate. I think our room was made up 3 or 4 times a day. We loved the spa, and pool. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed dinner, the food was excellent with an excellent wine list that was fairly priced. The bar had a great selections of grappas and after dinner drinks. Hotel is situated in beautiful Maremma region of Tuscany. Pretty much a perfect hotel!

I just finished a three night stay here. As others have noted, the grounds and the rooms are exceptional. The front desk staff has great suggestions for restaurants, things to do and beaches to visit. They made you feel very welcome and in fact we were upgraded to a deluxe room overlooking the vineyards. We did not use the spa for massage but it is adequate with a sauna and a jacuzzi.
The vineyard shops sell the same olive oil at 50% below the hotel price! That was incredulous. The only reason we found out about this was we went to buy a small bottle of olive oil. They had an old faded one and as it was a present we did not purchase it at the hotel. We decided to walk over to the wine shop and it was much lower in price.
The restaurant: I thought it was average and we all agreed overpriced for the quality of food served. I don't think Alain Ducase has visited this place more than once a year. But no problems, go to the front desk and they have some forest suggestions. Go to Oasi for a meal of your lifetime.
Breakfast was ok with the eggs cooked to order but they did not have many choices for a vegetable omelette. I would say average in the food category.
The only complaint I have is the Internet service in both the rooms we had was disappointing for the price one pays for the rooms. Management most certainly needs to install boosters on every corner as the walls are solid concrete.
I would definitely return for some peace and tranquility and to slow down and enjoy the Tuscan sun.
