“A very good hotel”
Reviewed 15 June 2013

The hotel is real four-star hotel. It is located outside the Chianciano Terme village. There are very beutiful old towns nearby.
I was travelling with a big group. The waiters were very fast and he supper was good. Also the breakfast was okay. I didn't have to queue, the buffet was very well organised. Only minus-point was the wine. I coudn't have one glass of wine. The wine was selled only in bottles in restaurant. It was not possible to buy a bottle of wine and then continue with the same bottle next evening. I didn't want to be an alcoholic, so I had to buy mineral water or a bottle of beer.
My room was very good - big and clean. The bathroom was exellent. The floor was made of marble(?). It could be slippery if it is wet.
Perhaps the hotel has seen its best days, but it is still good.

Just back from this lovely hotel 5 days ago. We stopped here en route back from southern Italy via Switzerland to the UK.
It is a fabulous place, set away in countryside, yet very close to the village.
The grounds are delightful, full of birdsong and mature trees.
The hotel itself is very good, clean, light, airy, filled with lovely antiques, and a good bar and dining room.
The food was excellent. A huge evening meal, really as much as you could eat, and more if required. breakfast was also plentiful.
The bedroom was huge, with fantastic views over Tuscany, a big balcony and masses of space. Probably the biggest room of our whole 3 weeks away.
Friendly staff.
No complaints at all, only wished we could have had a few days here in the lovely surroundings to relax.

Room Tip: All the rooms have fantastic views over Tuscany. The higher up the better.

We travelled to this Hotel with an Omega Holiday Tour in September 2012. Ok so the Hotel could do with a lick of paint however it was very clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are of a good size with a balcony and fridge, Bathroom was nice and towels were changed daily. The food in the hotel was lovely, all served to you at your table Drinks were of a reasonable price. The Hotel is in a lovely setting right at the top of a very steep hill, the Hotel do offer a mini bus (free of charge) to take you into the town, If you give them a quick call (if your mobile isnt working Tourist Info will call for you) when you are ready to return they will then come and pick you up. All in all it was a lovely Holiday it has deffinitely given us the bug to return to Italy in the future!

Had a 5 night stay as a base with Archer's tour of Tuscany. Option of Cristallo or Michelangelo. For once Tripadvisor let me down. I would have chosen Cristallo for location but reviews said otherwise.Michelangelo was more expensive but everyone on tour seemed happier with the Cristallo hotel. Of all the places we visited this town had little to recommend it unless you wanted a spa resort out of season. Yes the hotel had a shuttle but you had to request it individually and say when you wanted to return. Those who did said there was nothing to see and the town was dead.Rooms were fine. Staff were pleasant .There was one morning however when I waited 15 minutes for someone to appear on reception. All the keys were available including the lady's handbag. Anyone could have lifted a key and and have stolen from the empty rooms. Security ?? Free wifi in public areas but why not in room?.Deadly dull hotel and not one english channel on t.v.not even a news channel. Worst thing was vegetarian food. Usually great in Italy. They couldn't quite cope that I didn't eat meat or fish. No risotto, no pizza no bruschetta. I like pasta but this was a starter for most not a main course. One night my main was toast and cheese!! Spent a fortune on lunches to have decent food. Breakfast was poor.Vegetarians at Cristallo said they were well catered for and on one night they had a five course gala meal with wine.We didn't. Archers need to look at this . So far up the steep hill the guide told us not to walk back. Not sure if taxis were an option. Dire base for a holiday .

Room Tip: Try another hotel/town.

Spent 5 nights here as part of a cosmos tour and wished we hadnt. The hotel building looks like something you would have discovered when the iron curtain came down. Finished in bare concrete with the reinforcing bars showing through the crumbling balcanies it could have been used in a war film. Inside isnt alot better, its all very late 50's and tierd looking. Just when you think it cant get any worse, it does, the food arrives. It is diabolical. Breakfast is a poor buffet selection will some burnt things that i think were ment to be crussants. Evening meals are scary to say the least. Meat mould and salad pie were some of the highlights. Soup for starters, well clear water with bits in. Meat, i think for the main and a selection of pudding from the trolley, at your own risk. Hair was served up on a few occasions to go with your meals. We made sure we had a good lunch out during the day and kept a snack in our room. The staff werent a happy bunch and the only good thing i can say about this hotel is the views. If you get a third floor room like we did at the back you had fantast views all over Tuscany from the balcany. If you had a lower floor or a room at the front you had no view at all. There is a large roof terrace with sunbeds so if you have a lower room you can go up here for the views. Small pool and unheated, very cold. Long walk down a very steep track to town or use minibus till 8pm and the local bus goes up the hill aswell for a euro. Town centre fairly non exsistant as it all designers shops. Dont go to this hotel and dont book a cosmos tour if they are using it as a base.

Room Tip: third floor room at the back

The Michelangelo is set amongst pine trees just outside the town. We had a lovely spacious 3rd floor room with a great view of Chianciano Terme and the surrounding countryside from the balcony. Panoramic views from the roof terrace. Good size swimming pool set in grounds. We had it more or less to ourselves late afternoon ,early evening when we used it.

On the plus side room very comfortable, and staff courteous and helpful. The Minibus shuttle service was good during the day running to the piazza Italia. Plenty of choice for breakfast ,cereal, fruit, cheese, salami, pastries etc. Evening meals choice of 3 options each for starter and maincourse plus big vegetable buffet. Lovely deserts. Great choice for a quiet relaxing holiday.

Food mainly OK not sure whether some of the main dishes deserve 4 stars but perfectly adequate. The Mini bus service stops at 8pm. The small road that runs round the back of the hotel takes you down to Piazza Italia about 600metres, most of the shops further on. It is a steep hill most of the way so you would need to be fairly fit to attempt it. We did it several times and it only takes about 10 minutes.

The modern part of Chianciano is full of designer shops and has not got much character. The old town is set on a hill at the opposite side of the town from the hotel. Well worth a visit. Very pretty with wonderful views. The archeological musuem on the Via Dante just before you reach the old town is excellent if you are interested in Etruscan and Roman period.

This hotel was our base for a touring holiday. We booked it as 4 Star with expectations quite high. Oh dear what a disappointment. The hotel is quite away from the town but there is a shuttle bus which stops running at 8p.m. The climb up to the hotel is steep and although I am just 60 years of age adn I am fit, I did struggle. The meals were very average and not a lot of it very meagre breakfasts, and unoriginal evening meals. The hotel desperately needs refurbishment. The rooms were not too bad, good size with nice bathroms with a bath not a shower. The hotel has a decent pool area, but whilst we were there a party of school children were also there. The Berlitz summer school was the name of the organisation. The children took over the pool area with no way of swimming as they had organised games in and around the pool. The bar was badly stocked. The other guests at the hotel were mostly aged Italians. The staff were inconsiderate and sometimes rude. There were problems with other hotels in this area. We would not go back to this hotel and would not recommend it to others
