“NOISY and inefficient”
Reviewed 27 July 2013 via mobile

If you need a rest after a day spent on Alta via or other trek, better avoid this refuge. There are plenty within 30' walk (5torri or rifugio averau). Several reasons:

1. There is no sound isolation: you hear everyone from corridor and from balcony open for everyone. If laying on the bunk bed, you see the shoes of the person standing on the balcony 20 cm from your head.
2. No privacy at all even if you book a double room and pay 55 euros per person for half pension. You are constantly forced to see (half)naked prople on the balcony and in the corridor waiting for the shower and talking loudly. You find the neighbours dirty socks next to your balcony door because rooms are do tiny (app. 2x3 m a double room).
3. Outdated interiour, lack of toilets and showers, queues everywhere, the huge wardrobe filled with owners staff in your tiny room, no hooks in the room etc.
4. Music from the bar downstairs. The worst. You hear it all day, even on your way to Nuvolau and back.
5. Clearness. On arrival, we found dirty plates next to our door.

However, there are some pros: hot showers for free, Internet and delicious food.
But again, it is not a place where you have a good sleep.

Went with friends on a day trek to see the world famous 5 Torri, what a spectacular area !! The rifugio is located right in front of the 5 Torri with a wonderful view of the entire area. The staff and service were excellent. The local cuisine was very good and cost proportioned to the location. Would definitely reccomend for summer and winter visits

We don't actually stay there but we just went there for the food and enjoyed the view. Sitting outside, we were amazed again by the breathtaking scenery. The food was yam yam and yam!! And the staff was very friendly. Noticing that we were foreigners, she brought us an English menu!! Very sweet!! If we go back this year, we will definitely pop by!!

I first stayed at Rifugio Scoiattoli about 8 years ago. During our stay, my climbing partner and I had a serious accident, which resulted in him spending several days in hospital before being repatriated to the UK. Guido Lorenzi and his family and staff went way way out of their way to help us. Driving us to hospital at midnight, waiting for the doctors to diagnose my climbing partner, then driving me back to the rifugio after I was cleaned up and bandaged. The family and I have stayed friends over the years, and all of my friends whom I've visited the Dolomites with since, have ended up staying here for one or two nights. And they've all loved it! 360 degree views. A VIP seat to watch the nature's theatre spun it's tale around Tofane di Rozes, the Croda da Lago, and beyond. Every day a different canvas awaits you, and right on your doorstep the Cinque Torre stands guard. (Oh PS! It's a rifugio. Bunk beds and simple bathrooms are standard!)

We stayed here walking the Alta Via 1. It was a good option - basic very small rooms with bunks - three bathrooms (which was not enough, always a queue). Quite limited places to dry clothes. Nice big dining room and good food; good breakfast.

Room Tip: Book ahead for the larger rooms - ours was TINY!
