We first visited this hotel in around 1993 at which time it had probably the finest restaurant along this part of the coast and was the main reason for making a 20 year anniversary return trip. Our undoing was that we didn't check the hotel facilities, we just assumed that such a fine restaurant would be remain a Sasso family tradition. We discovered to our immeasurable disappointment that the restaurant had closed many years previously and now thre hotel offers self-catering apartments and a bed and breakfast option. We still enjoyed ourselves although the life an soul of the establishment back in the 1990s was the current owners' father and his passing seems to have taken away much of the special ambience.

Our room was very comfortable, overlooking the Via Biancheri and the occasional moped rider disturbed us, but not to an extend of being annoying. The air conditioning, fridge and wi-fi were superb, although when the air conditioning was active, the bathroom corridor/landing outside were unbearably warm indicative of vent pipes from the air conditioning being ducted inappropriately.

The bathroom was adequate (nice towels) - shower over the bath-tub, although a little small for this plus wash-hand basin, bidet and WC.

There is a lift for those who find stairs difficult. There is a games room with table-tennis and a small area with gym equipment, plus a dedicated childrens' play room. Guests are suitably warned about parking availability - split over two adjacent gravel areas at the rear, one with narrow access. We had no problems finding a space. Street parking could be problematic if you arrive too late to grab a free space at the hotel.

Access to the hotel is via a strange one-way system and if have sat-nav to guide you be aware that some no-entry streets may appear on the route in error.

Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, tinned fruit, dried prunes, cheese, ham, salami. a selection of yoghurts, croissants, bread rolls, honey and preserves, jam tart, various cereals and a selection of bakery items in sealed packets. English tea is available and you can request cappucino as an alternative to the coarse "robusta" style coffee if you wish. The waiter is truly wonderful and manages the breakfasts single-handedly. He is multi-lingual and is attentive to your needs.

This hotel scores very good in our opinion despite our disappointment over the restaurant closure. The free wi-fi was very important for us here and the signal was excellent each time every time.

Room Tip: Book early, as this is a popular hotel with Italian tourists. Ask what else is available if you are not happy with your room. The staff are very friendly.

I spent 3 days here in July 2013 and had a very happy stay: the room was air conditioned, had good WiFi in the room and BBC TV (and many other European channels) and a fridge in the room - plus a generous terrace, as I was in a 1st floor room so had a bigger terrace. Breakfast was just fine fir an extra 5 euros. One can walk easily from the train station and to the beach and all the shops and restaurants in the pedestrian zone.Staff very polite and multi-lingual, cleaning staff A+. Just a vary comfortable place to stay at the 3-star price point. Before checking out, I will check out there studios - more space and presumably a bit of a kitchen - for a longer stay.

Room Tip: I was in room 51 and the first floor: NO view, but it meant I never had to take the somewhat pokey elevator.

Excellent location, spotlessly clean, friendly and helpful staff. As an older female single traveller I spent 8 nights in the Sasso and felt totally safe and comfortable. The staff were also extremely helpful in catering to my allergies. I had a single room which was quite small but perfectly adequate and comfortable with both a large and small balcony. I hope to return later in the year. Excellent value for money.
