We passed I Piaceri di Lucrezia on our bike rides into and out of Ferrara from the Corte dei Gioghi agriturismo where we were staying.
We learnt many years ago not to prejudge any Italian restaurant, osteria, caffe, or trattoria by its outward appearance, or location. It is located towards the eastern end of XX Settembre, a little away from the centre of Ferrara.
Outside, the Piaceri is very simple, and unpretentious. We had hoped to sit in the courtyard, but it was full, and so we ate inside. So glad that we did, as we were then able to watch Giovanni preparing our dinner - and it was wonderful to see a true professional at work. Both he and Tatyana were very solicitous of diners' needs and took time to chat with everyone.
Everything we ate was delicious and the cappellaci con zucca the best we had during our stay. The menu appears simple as other commentators have remarked but the simplicity is deceptive. The flavours are subtle and the ingredients are obviously of the finest quality. The wine list is excellent and the prices extremely reasonable. We enjoyed our meal so much that we had already booked for the following night before we had finished our meal. We enjoyed the second as much as the first and took the opportunity to try more of the menu.
The owners are a delightful couple and it was a real pleasure to enjoy their hospitality. Grazie tante Giovanni e Tatyana.
