Hotel Corte Estense
Ranked #9 of 32 Hotels in Ferrara
Reviewed 14 July 2014

Hotel Corte Estense is located in the center of the main attraction of Ferrara. The name of the hotel implies the good lord Estense whom ruled this "New York" of Italy in the 14th or 15th century.
Hotel is located just inside the wall (there is no wall today) at the market square and the very old municipal building/square along a narrow street.
Hotel is lovely with timber trust ceiling and air conditioning. It states 4 star **** on its premise.
Toilet was of good size and the price was relative cheap for a well placed and clean hotel with breakfast included.
Breakfast was just so so..(nothing to shout about) and could be improved. My suggestion.. is breakfast pasta with ragu sauce.
The problem I had was the non English speaking reception. On days you will get an English speaking receptionist while sometimes you will get a non English speaking one. (for me it's a fifty fifty chance that i get to use my universal sign language)
Any way they were really polite and things get done.
The beauty of this hotel is the location to the famous restaurants, pizzeria, pubs, duomo, and the main square. The oldest pub in Italy is located about a par 5 away. This pub is dated around the 14 to 15th centuary and has bottles of Vino covered with thick dust to illustrate the age. I wonder if it is kept for it's anti static properties for I can't imagine drinking vino which is 600 years old.
The name of this pub is Al Brindisi .. ad. 1435
One more suggestion to this hotel is to have complimentary bicycles to it's guests.
All in.. this is a very good hotel with good room and it is "smack right Center" of the Corte Estense.
Ciao

My husband and I recently spent a night at the Corte Estense and were exceptionally pleased. We arrived in a car and found the hotel easily in a small street right off the main artery to the Duomo square. Greeted in English, we unloaded the car and then were directed to the hotel parking garage about 200 meters away. The garage was large and the parking was easy (a nice change from some ultra-tight spaces we have found at other hotels). The lobby area is made pleasant by a small garden in the back. We stayed in room #305, the top floor. It was a very spacious room with modern furniture. The room was lit by skylights with sliding panes and covers, operated with switches on the wall. The bathroom was amazing--very large marble, with both bathtub and shower. The WiFi worked no problem. We ate at the Osteria La Romantica recommended by the desk person. A couple of blocks away, it was excellent. Careful service, good food, moderate prices. The following morning, the desk staff person did not speak English, but we managed to communicate all right. Breakfast spread good in an attractive room. We were delighted with our stay and would happily have spent more time there. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room #305 is spacious with a terrific bathroom if you don't mind a room lit by skylight instead...

Catch the 11 bus to just past the castel. Good location but Ferrara is boring! It is not a place for visitors. Only 2/30 attractions and churches marked on the tourist map were open on a Thursday (not a public holiday either). The staff don't speak any English but that doesn't matter, just be prepared. Ok breakfast, good shower. Holes in carpet, dark halls and room. Fridge was full of mould, it was even growing on the beer and water bottles and on the bottle opener!

Cant beat this hotel for location just off the main square near the castle. Lovely big room with a beamed ceiling room 306. Other reviews mention it is dark and yes it is but thats because it is old, full of character and in the city. If you want modern etc this place is not for you. The shower was small but the bathroom was ok with nice thick white towels. Very large comfy bed. We stayed for a weekend and throughly enjoyed it i Ferrara. Breakfast was good with cold meats and pastries and lovely fresh coffee and a selection of teas.

When you arrive at this beautiful town just ask your way to the center. From the train station it is just a straight walk of about one and a half kilometers. I suggest that, if you arrive during the day, you walk to the hotel because you will get a good idea of Ferrara, then, when you arrive at the square in front of the cathedral, just pass through the arch and, in front of the insurance block, go into the little alley there. This is not a big hotel as hotels go but it is quite luxurious. The ceilings are all made of big wooden beams and the breakfast room is beautiful. There is no cooked breakfast but the choice available is such that it should satisfy anybody. The rooms are quite big and the bathroom is roomy too.

This hotel is in the heart of Ferrara, you just have to walk to the centre. It is vey nice, my room had windows on the small, beautiful internal corte, which was an amazing view.
The breakfast is really good too, you can choose among a variety of food sweet and savoury, delicious coffee or juices and the traditional milk and cereal. The staff is polite and helpful and given the price (we paid 85 euros for a triple room on a special offer) it is really worth it!
