“Very disappointing stay”
Reviewed 4 July 2008

Just returned from a week in this hotel, the week started off OK, we noticed that the hotel was a bit tired looking but reasonable clean and smart. The reception is really lovely but due to lack of staffing not used enough.

We booked this hotel because of the description of it being a quiet family run hotel, this seemed the case until our third day there, then we returned from a trip to town to find 43 15-16 year olds around the pool! 3 foot from our balcony. A room we had moved to from our Sea View Room, (only if you looked around the corner). I have to admit that these children were very well behaved, not a swear word was heard from them, but the noise of 43 children was rather loud to say the least! This was made worse by the 8 Italian children who were drinking Alcopops in the pool, where two of the were 'making out' in front of the whole pool and putting on a rather disgusting show for their friends, who spent their time trying to shock the English teenage girs with their rather colourful turn of English phrases like "can i touch your [--], and your [--].
A complaint was made to the management There was only a young student in charge of the hotel that afternoon and she proceeded to speak to the Italian children and litrally pointed me out to them that this lady had complained about their noise. I then had to endure 8 teenagers sucking their teeth and sneering at me for spoiling their afternoon of dive bombing in the pool at the rest of the guests, who many couldn't stay and put up with that behaviour. The following day the same thing happened again, same show!, same dive bombing, and swearing, again my partner tried to talk to the management, this time with a result!! It turns out that one of the teenagers belonged to them! She then in no uncertain terms told my partner that they were her children and that they could do what ever they wanted to do!! With no retribution from her. it certainly was a family run hotel!!! Then the day came to check out and settle our bill, the sea view room we paid extra for, we hoped would be equivalent to a balcony room, bearing in mind we could only use it in the mornings and evenings, but this was not the case, we had to pay another €10 per day for this priviledge, we asked how much the sea view room was over a standard room and was told that all other rooms were standard and that we were not given a sea view room to start off with, and again told in no uncertain terms that we had to pay the bill, this was all talked about over the phone with a translator with the manager shouting and screaming in the back ground. We paid the bill, all of it and will be taking this up with the company that we booked through as told to by the Hotel manager as it was not his problem.
Overall we expected a quiet holiday, due to our jobs we work very hard and need to get away from it all, this was not the case here.

Whilst on holiday with a tour company during May 2008 we were placed at this hotel as there was no availability at the hotel we were booked into.
Going into this hotel was like stepping back in time and the atmosphere and decor sparked flashbacks from the film Psycho! The hotel is very old (which is fine if the atmosphere is nice) and the room standard was poor. After opening the wardrobe the room needed aired to disperse the smell of mould - clothes were safer left in the suit cases.. Best not to put the case on any of the furniture, it is likely to collapse. The bathroom seemed fine until you take a shower and find there is neither shower curtain nor door and there is a switch right above the bath into the bargain - I think there was no extra charge for being fried in the bath. The windows lead onto a terrace (obviously a premium room..) once you open the shutters and dust yourself down from the cobwebs. There was a sun lounger on the terrace which was a welcome alternative option to actually sleeping in the room (which I was clearly not intending to do). After surviving the 'Mission Impossible' of having a shower it was time to plug in the hairdryer - guess what - no plugs except for the shaver socket. No worries just use that then?! - completely blew the power in the room and we were plunged into darkness.. spooky.. and I'm NOT joking. Take it from us - avoid unless you are writing a Poirot novel or looking for an ideal location for a horror film. The guy on reception to be fair seemed ok but the lady (? ummm) is someone who doesnt see the funny side of very much. We didnt stay the night needless to say, so unfortunately cannot give an insight into the nightly goings on... The hotel is rated 4 star - no mention of what year it was awarded but my guess it was not in my lifetime. At least we can look back and laugh now - we certainly weren't at the time..Finally - if you are headed there - Good Luck.

We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Igea in Fiuggi, Italy in 2004 during the month of September. The hotel was a joy and represented the best of olde world hospitality. The staff was extremely accommodating and thoughtful and made our stay the foundation for wonderful memories. The rooms have either balcony's or terraces and, as for the food, it was fabulous. Also, an added plus was the pool area that offered a lovely place to rest and enjoy the views. Fiuggi is approx 30 miles from Rome and centrally located to just about anywhere in Italy (this is a definite plus). Located in a lovely mountain area it offers old town and new town with chestnut trees and cobblestone streets that lend history down every narrow winding street. We also did quite a bit of sightseeing in Italy thru the tour company in town and found it very reasonable. Villa Igea is centrally located and across the street from the Bonaficio Spa which is known worldwide for it's healing waters. You will meet people from all over the world who come to enjoy it's healing gifts and tranquility and this is a joy in itself. The spa was named for Pope Bonafacio who frequented it centuries ago and also the place where Michelangelo came to rest and rejuvinate while painting the Sistine Chapel. In the evenings there was music and dancing in the square and an atmosphere of happiness and well being. We plan to return to Villa Igea again this September....it was a most delightful experience.
