“Expensive but a lovely place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2007

We had a week at the Hermitage. It's difficult to tell what it's going to be like fro the web site but we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is on a big plot about 1km from the beaches back in the pine woods surrounded by pretty villas. The relaxed atmosphere and the pool, playground and safe area were perfect for our kids 8 and 5. The hotel were worried that our room would be too small when we booked as we were all staying in the same room. They needn't have worried it was very clean, spacious and only lacked a balcony but we were hardly there. Having rented a 4 person bike (!) we were on the beach of the sister hotel (you have to pay c €60 per day for the facilties there) which was great or we were out touring. The food was excellent both for kids and adults and the kids ate early and then played with the other kids there whilst we had a quiet and usually excellent dinner.
It's not a cheap place in August, €6000 for the week all in, but we left feeling that it was pretty much worth it.
If we go back to Tuscany we would definitely stay again.

This hotel, rated 4* by Citalia is certainly not that. At best, it is 3*.
On first appearance, it seemed idyllic- Lovely gardens, huge swimming pool and seemingly peaceful. It was, however, our worst holiday in Italy.
The concierge and manager were very abrupt and unhelpful and only after a long discussion with them and saying that we would contact citalia, did they appear to be helpful.
The room was very average, with the hotel managment turning on intense heating and blaming it on the airconditioning malfunctioning- it took 4 days to sort this out.- we were told told that we were the only people in the hotel to ever complain about anything. This was untrue ( several guests complained about several aspects of the hotel). Our main complaints were:
1.There was no wine waiter as such- very little information on wines and no effort to advise.
2.The concierge was very unhelpfuland uncommunicative and the manager did not deal with our complaints in a professional manner.
3. The food was very average, and on some occasions poor. Some italian gusts complained about it.The breakfast was limited and any extras ( which we have always had automatically in any other 4* hotels) were highly priced.
Italy is famous for cheese and cured meat and yet we were offered mozzarella, salami and one type of ham at breakfast. I have had better choice at a best western hotel. The salad buffet in the evening emptied after 5 minutes and was not refilled for other guests.
4. Room service was available from 7am only. If you were unwell at night, you were unable to get tea ( or even at 15 minutes before breakfast) Very poor.
5. The swimming pool area appeared idyllic on first sighting but many guests were disgusted by the noise of children and more so by noisy PARENTS SHOUTING . Many guests left the pool area repeatedly due to this and some had threatened to cancel their booking the following year due to poor management of this area.
6. The drain in the bathroom constantly smelled bad.

Overall, this hotel could be magnificent, but it needs a new chef, and a competant manager who is willing to deal with problems rather than blame them on the clients.

We have never complained about a hotel before on our travels but this hotel was a big disappointment.
Italy is also pricing itself out of the market by its bar prices- the bar and pool were often empty due to the excessive prices and noise.
Waken up Citalia and improve your service.! You have certainly lost two customers if not more ( judging by the number of people who complained to us about the above!)

  • Liked — The pool when it was quiet ( not often)
  • Disliked — Attitude of concierge and manager

Very chic and expensive resort! Beaches are beautifully clean but you are pestered quite a lot by people selling bags, watches etc can be fun sometimes if you are in the mood!

The hotel is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in, the rooms are very nice and the staff are charming and very helpful. The hotel is small but has a very pleasant pool and bar area. It is walking distance of the lovely shops, mostly designer but there are some reasonable shops.

We have been a few times to this resort and have always had a lovely holiday although not cheap.

Gardens in the hotel are pretty and well maintained.

You will deffinately enjoy this holiday!
