“pack the ear plugs and you may be ok”
Reviewed 25 May 2013

The Hotel Palme is a no frills accommodation that is badly in need of an update with regards to the furnishings, bed linen and furniture. We did not spend a lot of time in the hotel so these facts did not effect us in a major way but there are some tips that will make your stay more bearable. The walls are paper thin and you WILL be disturbed by your neighbours - we had ear plugs and this made the world of difference. There are no tea and coffee making facilities in your room so pack a travel kettle (this is fairly common in hotels in Italy). As you may be aware there is only air con in the months of July & Aug so a small fan in our case a fan / heater combi was very worthwhile taking (when its hot its hot and when its cold it really drops and there is not source to control this in the room).
The food we had was decent ( we are vegetarian and were provided with alternatives). Breakfast (served between 730 -930 am) was cereal, fruit, yoghurt, various breads, melba toasts, and condiments ( jams, honey, chocolate etc), the usual cooked options, and various cakes and little packets of biscuits.
Each night ( 630pm or 8pm) you have the following days menu which you mark your request - three starters ( 2 pasta and 1 soup usually) and two mains ( meat option and fish option usually) followed by a wide selection of deserts. There is also a help yourself salad buffet which is also where you get your soup from. The staff were friendly and helpful but clearly over stretched.
Make sure you ask for your welcome cards from reception on arrival as these give you discounts on the ferries, cable car at Malcesnie as well as other places.
The bus "station" is easy to miss but is near to the hotel (when you get to the main road take a left where you will find a out door shop, followed by bike hire, a cafe and shop and the bus station with the ticket office).
The buses run from Riva to Verona (before going to Verona it detours to Pescheria - where you can get off and following a 10 min walk into the centre and pick up the bus route that goes around the other side of the lake). Never buy the bus tickets on the bus (cost alot more) - use the ticket offices in the larger resorts and the tobacconist in the smaller ones. A day ticket for the line mentioned earlier costs 13 euros for unlimited travel, other ticket price examples are Garda to Malcesnie single 2.80 and approx 480 up to Riva.

Room Tip: away from the bar if you dont want th additional noise

I visited Italy for 2 weeks in the summer with my partner. We stayed in numerous cities as part of our two week site seeing trip. We then hoped to finsh up with a 4 day relaxing stay in lake Garda. Garda itself was amazing and beautiful but unfortunately the same could not be said about Hotel Le Palme.

After a long bus ride to the town of Garda myself and boyfriend arrived up at the hotel and were told that there had been a problem with our booking and the hotel was full. We were told that we would have to stay at a different hotel for the first night and then return to Le Palme for the remaining time. We were informed that we would be staying at Hotel Oasi and that it was only a 5 min walk away from Hotel Le Palme. We were a bit confused but did not complain we merely asked for a better explanation as to what exactly the problem was. The woman on the reception desk did not offer any help and her customer service skills, as we would later find out from all the other members of staff too, were extremely poor. We were pointed in the general direction and she went back to her work.

We then began to walk to Hotel Oasi, which we discovered was not a 5 min walk but actually a 25 min walk uphill with our bags.

The next morning we then walked back to Le Palme to finally settle in to our room and begin our exploration of the wonderful town. We were told that there were no rooms ready and that we would need to wait until 3pm that evening to get our room.

We explained to the girl on reception that we had paid to rent a room for 4 days and we should have been able to move room without any delay. She was incredibly rude, demeaning and abrupt and had the worst costumer service skills that we have ever experienced in any hospitality sector. We were basically treated like annoying intruders. We asked to speak to the manager and was told that "There is no manager". We were then told to got across the road to the offices of the package holiday operators and, as we had nothing to do with them and had not booked with them they couldn't help and we were sent back to the hotel.

We finally did get the room, but this experience with hotel Le Palme ruined most of our day. Other that that the hotel was ok with a decent location, but the breakfast was fairly poor.

Don't go to The Pale expecting great things. The hotel is a little tired, and considerably further from ther lake front than its ads would have you believe. However, it's all clean and tidy, the food is simple, the staff willing. All in all, not bad.

from reading previous tripadvisor comments we had great expectations for the location and resort and low expectations for the Hotel. We were not disappointed with either.
Garda is the best location for visiting other towns around the lake and for visiting such cities as Verona and Venice. e.g. journeys from , say Lemonie or Riva del Garda, to either ( and the airport) add between one hour to two each way.
The hotel is old fashioned and tired, we met a couple who first visited over 20 years ago and have returned a dozen or so times, the decor and furniture have not changed in all that time. Food is ok but service can be chaotic, sorry to seem racist but a lot of the German visitors and their lack of understanding the principals of queueing can be pretty challenging.
Unlike many 3* hotels in Garda the Palme has very good pools, two 25m with two kids pools .so good for relaxing and swimming, but as with the hotel the level of care to maintain cleanliness and replace broken furniture was not good.
Unfortunately we requested a room overlooking the mountains and with a lake view, this put us at the rear of the hotel , above kitchens and overlooking a busy ( and noisey ) car park and builders yard. Anyone going here should ask for a room at the front of the hotel.
The rooms were a good size generally clean with daily towel change, but irrespective of weather the A/C is turned off at the end of August, making sleeping in a stuffy room difficult.

All in all this hotel is much cheaper than other large hotels in the area, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Ask for front of hotel overlooking Pool and with a lake view

We have just returned from a week in the Hotel Palme, Lake Garda, it was in our opinion, a good 'value for money' holiday.

My wife and I were in a party of friends and family from the UK, with a block booking, attending our grandson and his brides wedding, which took place in the Castle Torre Del Benaco's 'Lemon Grove', a wonderful setting.

Speaking for ourselves, we found our accommodation at the Hotel Palme more than adequate, we were fully aware, it was not a five star rating, some of the reviews I read, prior to leaving, were somewhat off putting, one stated that the towels were thin, 'yes' they were, but all you needed to do was leave them on the floor after use, and they would be changed.

Our group loved the pools, there was lots of space, and plenty of sunbeds around the pools.

My wife and I were very happy with the cleanliness of our room, and the hotel in general, to be fair, the reception was at times a little under pressure, but considering the language situation they were faced with, people from different parts of the world, speaking different languages, I felt they coped very well.

There was a slight problem, some of our party had with their continental plugs, which refused to work in their points, and the farcical bit about the safe, where all you need to know are the magic six digits, when you have forgotten your number, and you can open every safe in the hotel.

Regarding the food, we had B&B and there was plenty of food at breakfast time, with different cereals and milk/yogurt, although it was not your regular English Bacon and Eggs, with all the trimmings. It was Italian food, with cold meats and cheeses, scrambled egg, and lightly cooked bacon was available, as well as fresh bread and rolls, with plenty of butter, three choices of tea, and a busy staff catering for different tastes and flavours, who were quite happy to replenish empty dishes and fresh fruit etc..

All in all, I give it four stars, it's not the Ritz, it's an ordinary Italian Hotel, in a beautiful place.

Lake Garda is panoramic with a wonderful Italian setting, with loads of restaurants and some do cater for the Englishman's Steak and Chips, the place has lovely shops and restaurants, you just need to have a look around.

Finally, would we go again ?, the answer is a resounding 'Yes', we loved it......

Room Tip: I found the place quiet where we stayed, at the end of the hotel, overlooking the pool, go for a bal...

With some trepidation we arrived and were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was clean and the staff were all very helpful. Rooms very clean, air conditioning worked fine, towels changed daily. The food was good with a reasonable choice. The salads were the best bit. It was great value for money and not far from the town centre. If you fancy a meal out try grasps which specialises in fish. We had a banquet of ten courses with wine for 30 euros each. It was amazing !!!!!!!

Room Tip: One on the top floor is better.

We have just spent two weeks at the Hotel Palme and enjoyed every minute. Everything we experienced at the hotel surpassed our expectations including the service, cleanliness, pool area and food. Absolutely no complaints, we would definately consider a return visit.
