My wife and I stayed for one week from the 27th of July and couldn't have been more impressed. We had stayed over in Verona for one night prior and caught the bus down to Garda the next morning. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the bus station, 5 minutes from the ferry port and the same from the bars and restaurants. It looked further on the maps when we were planning but it really is the perfect distance from everything.

We arrived around 10am Sunday morning and although check in is not till 2pm I believe, the receptionist was very helpful and arranged to have our room ready within the hour. We had decided to pick a standard room as we didn't intend on spending any time in the room really, especially with the lovely pool area to lounge around. The room was very nice, wonderfully clean and although it was on the small side (which we knew), it served our purpose well. Without the pool area we would have gone for a room with a balcony.

Normally we wouldn't go Half-Board but as the cost difference was relatively small we figured we'd give it ago. Most nights it's a four course menu with a salad buffet, starter, main and dessert buffet but they did have one night which was a 7 course taster menu - interesting. The food is simply out of this world. Amazing flavours, great portion size and a good selection to choose from. I would heartily recommend you eat at the hotel at least once. We ate in every night and were not disappointed once. The service is sublime. The Maitre d', Vito and his group of waitresses are incredibly effiecient, friendly and helpful. I don't think I could praise them highly enough. Also, don't miss afternoon tea between 4 and 5 pm. They put out tea and coffe making facilities and a selection of cakes/biscuits. The drinks prices were very reasonable for a hotel as well.

Breakfast on the terrace was also a nice experience. There's a good selection of cereals, fruit, yogurts and a small amount of cooked items.

Check out was easy which is always good. They even have a courtesy bathroom you can use which has a shower.

Overall I can see why this hotel is Number 1 in Garda. It's an absolute gem and if we ever head back that way I'll have no hesitation in staying there again.

We chose this hotel simply because it was #1 in Garda, we were not disappointed. We booked a third floor room over looking the lake which gave us a fantastic view. The room and the entire hotel was spotlessly clean. We had some trouble with the aircon on day one but it was sorted out quickly. The pool area was well laid out and there were plenty of sun beds available. Food was great, we were B&B but chose the banquet (tasting menu) one night which was really nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was fine if you are a confident driver and the main resort is only a short (5 min) walk away as is the ferry terminal. I don't really have anything negative to say about our stay which is unusual.

Room Tip: The best rooms are the ones at the front of the hotel overlooking the pool. I think there is a suite...

Our Wedding Week! My husband, Daughter and Myself had a blast. The Hotel Excelsior in Garda was more than we had expected and could not prays the staff enough. Travelling with a child under two for the first time had us very worried how she would take to things. On our arrival the staff went over and beyond to make sure we were well comfortable especially our daughter Emma. She had a playpen cot that is bigger than the ones here in Ireland with a toy printed blanket and toddler pillow. Each morning the high chair was waiting for Emma's arrival. Each time Emma would walk anywhere in the hotel staff where playing with her etc. We had the biggest room in the hotel and our wedding guests stayed as well and all rooms are well catered for. The top four rooms have balcony's that wrap around the building , hints all sharing the wrap around balcony but broken up with large flower pots and sun loungers for each room. The food was lovely, however we did eat in garda every evening as such a choice of restaurants. It is a 5 min walk to the town by road and then Lake Shore which gave our daughter time to nap in her buggy etc. One thing to bear in mind is that the temperatures in May are still cold to them so no air-con turned on. We really loved this place and made our Wedding in Garda very special, we will be returning here in the not so distance future.

Room Tip: Front Lake view rooms will be the best and higher the better

We couldn't have asked for a better hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful without being overbearing, and the rooms are kept immaculately clean. We went half-board, although we did eat in the hotel restaurant one night. For 18 euros, you get a superb four course meal. The quality of the food was outstanding, although I would recommend going half-board so that you can try out all of the fantastic local restaurants around the town. The hotel itself is a two minute walk from the central hub of Garda and boasts phenomenal views over the lake. It was brilliant sitting on the terrace during breakfast and admiring the views, or swimming in the pool and being able to look out at the scenery at the same time!

The hotel offers direct transfers for a reasonable price to and from Verona airport. This was a friendly and hassle-free service which I would highly recommend.

Garda itself is a wonderful town with easy access points to towns and cities all around the lake. Being a stone's throw from town means you have no excuse not to go exploring! We will definitely be coming back again.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, I recommend getting an upgrade from a standard room, and ideally find a room w...

This hotel was absolutely fabulous. Could not fault this at all. The food was outstanding and the staff were all lovely and made our stay so memorable. Their attention to detail at the evening meal was incredible. It was only a short walk to the lakeside which was beautiful and very well placed to travel around by either boat or bus. I would recommend this to anyone, although I would advise to take an umbrella as it did rain heavily a couple of days, even in July. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We had a side lake view room which was nice but the front of the hotel had a much better view.

The hotel was in a stunning location and don't forget to book a full lake view or do as we did and ask for an upgrade if available when you arrive. We were lucky and got upgraded!!. The view is spectacular and the hotel could not be better placed for all types of traveller. Garda and all its shops and restaurants literally a 5 minute stroll away. The reception, restaurant and even the cleaning staff were always friendly and helpful. I contacted reception for a last minute transfer the day before we flew out there and they could not have been more helpful, organising a very reasonable return transfer within the hour and putting my mind at rest. The restaurant menu is definitely worth a look every morning and then just book a table if you fancy it, we dined in the restaurant one night and for 18 euro's per person the 4 courses present very good value. Breakfast is exceptional, very laid back, very good choice and all served on the terrace with the lake in front of you. The pool area was well kept and cleaned every day although we didn't use it as the lakeside private garden also owned by the hotel was only a 10 minute walk away and was right on the beach and next to a café....perfect for chilling out. The small details like pool towels provided and garden towels provided make all the difference....no drying towels on the balcony everyday. We will be back next year, thank you excelsior.

Room Tip: Lake view a must, 4th floor panoramic balcony!

Hotel was ok, staff ok, not over friendly as other reviewers have said. We were half board, breakfast got a bit boring after a while, same things every morning. More varieties of fresh fruit would have been lovely, not tinned fruit and one fresh choice. Evening meal ok, but I'd have rather eat out every evening. Wasn't to keen on the food. We eat out a couple of nights and it was tasty and delicious, put me off half board to be honest. Pool area nice. Some of the large sun parosolls near the eating outside area were very dirty, needed a good scrub or replacing. Apart from the hotel we had an amazing romantic time in Garda. Would definitely go back and stay elsewhere. Piccolo was a great restaurant for lunch and evening meals near the lake front. We visited Bardolino which was lovely. Go you won't regret it.

Room Tip: To enjoy the views I would recommend the lake view rooms at the front
