“What a Wonderful Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

This hotel is simply a wonderful place to stay in one of the quaintest towns I've ever visited. The accommodations were just as promised. Comfortable and pleasant. The owner and her staff were helpful and friendly. The traditional accommodations -- service, room, bath -- met expectations. The modern conveniences -- WiFi, computers for guest use -- also very good. Breakfast was a nice assortment and evening drinks on the front terraces were quite pleasant. Conveniently located about seven minutes walk from train station; about 10 minutes from town square, restaurants and port. Hotel provided lots of info on attractions, transportation, restaurants. Would go back there in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Although our room faced street, noise level was not a problem.

Just avoid this place - they lie and the rooms posted online - if they exist - are very limited.
We were booked here for 3 nights, the last week of May 2014. It was very difficult to find, and once we did, we were not impressed.
Asked for upgraded room & were told it wasn't available - that all rooms were the same. Since the one they were giving us vaguely resembled a prison cell - grey everything, bare light bulb, no room for luggage - just awful. Nothing like shown in the pictures online.
They actually claimed that this was the standard in Italy. We'd been travelling for over a week by then, and NEVER encountered anything so awful.
We used booking.com for all our reservations. Giardinetto was insisting that we pay for all three nights if we cancelled. Used the free internet at the front desk (really - just another counter in the kitchen) to check on the Booking.com policy. After much hassle, we paid for one night to escape the dreadful room, and went down the lakefront to the Hotel Terminus, where we found accomodation that was way more pleasant for about 30% more. May sound like a lot, but considering parking was right next to the building as opposed to three or four, uphil blocks away, it was a steal.
Warning here about booking.com policies. If we had stayed one night, we would have ended up having to pay for all 3. To cancel, you can't use any part of the reservation. So beware - and stay away from this horrid place.
I don't know how it rates 7.8 on booking.com. Motel 6 in the U.S, is a STEP UP from the depressing, small, unattractive room that they tried to give us.
Also, the free internet disappeared from the front desk after we used it to kaybosh their thievery concerning cancellation policies. This is not an honest hotel by any stretch of the imagination. Take our advice and just stay away.

Room Tip: We didn't insist on a lakeview - maybe those are better. We don't know because we weren'...

This was a family one night stopover enroute from Tuscany to Germany and we wanted to see Lake Garda and have a final authentic Italian meal. I booked two rooms via Booking.com and selected Hotel Giardinetto for its location, availability of parking and price. On the booking website I had the option of selecting a twin and a double and I also entered it as a 'special request'.
On arrival in Garda the satnav was trying to get us to the hotel but every street was blocked off. Only then did we realise that the hotel is in a pedestrian only zone and there was a police presence in the area. I parked the car and left the family and walked to the hotel. On check in I handed over a €20 deposit for a blue piece of card which gives free parking at a site in town nearly 15 minutes walk from the hotel! What the man failed to point out was that we could drive through the crowded pedestrian area to offload first. So we ended up doing a 1km bag-drag through the crowded streets of Garda on a hot afternoon after a long journey. I asked one of the policemen if it was allowed to drive to the hotel and he said 'Yes, for the purposes of loading and unloading only'. A bit late to find that out although useful in the morning.
Despite twice identifying the requirement of a double room I was given two twins. This was quickly rectified but added to the already hot and annoying arrival.
As 'Andrew m' has identified, this is a restaurant with rooms. The 'reception' [arrival closet] is attached to the kitchen and there is no communal area except in the restaurant. The building is soul-less with stone stairs and corridors which make it impossible to transit quietly. However, there are positive aspects. The rooms, facing the lake, were clean and fresh and a reasonable size. The first floor rooms have a little balcony big enough for 2 chairs and a table and it was a delight to sit outside and see the world go by and watch the boats and ducks on the lake. Floors 2 and 3 have a balcony rail to stop you from falling out of the door but nothing more. Also, now the trees on the lakeside have leaves it appears that the lake is only viewable under the trees from floor 1. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well until 6 o'clock when we were awoken by the scraping of chairs and tables being put out on the pavement in front of the hotel. The people moving the furniture, whether from this hotel or the one next door were chatting and laughing and making no attempt to stay quiet whilst guests were sleeping. We had put the shutter down but had the internal door open to allow in fresh air - whether shutting up completely would've helped, I don't know.
The shower in the ensuite was powerful but it did remind me of the old telephone kiosks as it was such a small space. If you are of larger proportions then you would struggle to get in and turn round. Also, there is a bidet crammed into the small ensuite so that using the toilet is not as easy as it should be.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant which is open-fronted to the lake. We were very impressed with the breakfast. It is buffet style and caters for so many dietary needs including gluten-free. There was an abundance of prepared fresh fruit, an egg cooker for both hen's and quail's eggs, an array of meats and cheeses, cereals and bio-nuts and seeds and loads of pastries.
I found that my children had not slept so well having been disturbed by returning guests at 4am and so much noise in the alleyway next to the hotel throughout the night.
As I walked the 10-15 minutes back to the car park to drive it to the front of the hotel my thoughts were already considering this review.
In summary, it is sensibly priced; next to the lake; clean and comfortable; relaxing to sit out on the balcony and a really decent quality breakfast. They do their best in terms of location to provide a free car park. However, it is a room above a restaurant with the noises and smells that go with it. It is OK for a night-stop but I don't think that we would go back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms on the 1st floor have a real balcony to sit outside. The other floors don't.

THE GIARDINETTO is not a hotel it Is a restaurant that lets out rooms.there is no interaction between the management ( whoever they were ) and guests.
when we arrived we were dealt with by a waiter who demanded the tourist tax before he handed over our room key( what a welcome ) the room was like a small cell but clean in the
bathroom we had to climb over the bidet to access the small shower very dangerous especially for two people in there sixties we did complain but to no avail.
it was a depressing place and did not even have a lounge or seating area for paying guests whoever was running the show could not have cared less the noise starts around 6 am so if you are looking to have a long lie forget it.
the breakfast looked very good but some of it was not covered and open to any flies or bugs that were around.
this so called hotel was so dreadful that we moved out to a proper hotel for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
if you want to live in a monastic cell and dare to risk a serious injury trying to shower coupled with being totally ignored during your stay this is the hotel you have always dreamed of (room 10).
how any self respecting holiday company (thomas cook) can send people here beggars belief.
this company should re-evaluate the worth of this hotel it was not cheap and holiday makers deserve a better deal.

We booked for a week's stay with Crystal Holidays despite mixed reviews on the internet, and requested a top floor double bedded-room with a lake view, which we got.
The location directly overlooking the lake, and the flowered balcony was excellent as was the cleanliness of the room and the helpful housekeeping staff.
On the positive side the evening dining was very good. We had booked for just breakfast but ate at the hotel as the food, especially their seafood, was superb. Unfortunately the breakfast 'buffet' left a lot to be desired as it was so sparse and certainly not up to the evening standard of cousine. The only saving grace was the very attentive and friendly waiter, Nowis.

Although pedestrianised we encountered very loud noise from outside nearly every night due to late night diners and drinkers, stag parties etc, once until 4am. Because of this we asked for a transfer to another quieter hotel off the front, within the travel company, and said we were prepared to pay extra to get a decent night's sleep as it was spoiling our holiday due to tiredness. Crystal were clearly not happy about this and wanted to charge us an extra £600 to stay at an equivalent hotel.
When I queried the high surcharge I was told it included £356 'cancellation fee' due to vacating our room (which I reminded them was already paid for !). However, because of the principle of not paying their price we stayed the week and endured the noise, and came back exhausted.

Room Tip: Front lake-side rooms are best.

This was our first visit to Garda and it wont be the last.We enjoyed everything about the resort and the Hotel was lovely. We had a lake view room , the views were stunning from the 3rd Floor. The Breakfast was good , the room was small but lovely , fresh towels and beds were made up every day.The location was perfect , yes its lively at night , but most of the musical activity ends around 11.30pm , so its not a problem. The only downside is the lack of a pool , balcony or seating area to relax after a days sightseeing. We swam in the lake most days , there are several shingle beaches close by.
Be careful at restaurants , they charge 4 euros for the cover charge of 2 bread rolls !
Try the Spritz Aperol drink , really refreshing and not too expensive.

Cant wait to get back , but will book a hotel with a pool next time .

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are best !

We stayed here from 3-10 August 2013. We had a room with a balcony with a fantastic view of the lake (which we paid extra for) and free WiFi. The rooms were a good size, very clean and the air con was very powerful. It was noisy at night but that was because it was full of people eating and socializing which is to be expected in that location. The restaurant is mainly fish, and the waiter was very obliging when we wanted to change some of the ingredients in the dishes we ordered, which were delicious. We were still charged 2 euro per table even though we were staying there.
