“3 star hotel masquerading as a 2 star”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

As we had not stayed in a 2star hotel for some time we were a bit apprehensive when booking this hotel for July as the deal seemed to be too good to be true. What a surprise we got. Friendly/ helpful staff, spotlessly clean room and toilet which were of a good size. Located 5 minutes walk from the town centre and waterfront in a quiet area of the town. Room had a Juliet balcony and faced an apartment block (which was the only down side of our stay) Some rooms to the rear of the hotel and one on the town side have full balconies, all the rest are Juliet balconies. Breakfast is Continental and is replenished regularly as guest appear. Tables are set as per room number though you can have your breakfast in a small area outside. There is a nice sitting area at the front of the hotel and a small bar area inside. All in all we had a very relaxing stay at this hotel (very peacefully during the night) with friendly and helpful staff. We would definitely consider staying here again should we go back to Garda. This was our 4th visit to Garda and this hotel is every bit as good as some 4 stars in the town. The only thing missing was a pool and sun lounge area. Well worth considering if visiting Garda.

Room Tip: Rooms with full balconies have best outlooks. 2nd floor is at roadside level therefore if you have...

Great central location for town, port and bus station. Garda is a great base to visit other towns and cities including Verona, Venice and Milan and those smaller places around the lake itself. This hotel is spotlessly clean with friendly staff who do not over-impose themselves but are there for advice. Breakfast is typically continental and it is worth noting the vigilance of the staff ensures quantity is always plentiful. The size of living space and bathroom was more than adequate for a 7 night stay for my wife and I. We had a balcony with lovely view to the back of the hotel which had hills as a scenic backdrop. Although not a great deal of space around the hotel, I thought the owners had done a great job in using this area with seats and tables together with lemons and Japanese maples to give an enclosed and friendly feel. Our balcony had two comfy seats and a table which it was nice to use and just chill out and appreciate the views it afforded. The only slight issue (which it was not necessary to report) was the fact that the roller shutter leading from room to the balcony did not easily roll up and it necessitated having to crutch down quite a bit to walk in and out. Being able bodied this was not an issue to my wife and I, but it may be to others.
We were aware that payment could not be made by card, there was no Wi-Fi and no pool. I am certain that if some or all was available then this 2 star hotel would easily attain more. Of course the downside would likely be that the tariff would then increase!
All in all my wife and I would say this is a great hotel, especially given the money of 80 euros per night for the last week in July and ticked all the right boxes. We would most certainly recommend The Virginia to anyone looking for a hotel in the lovely central town of Garda.

Room Tip: I would advise asking for a balcony.

Stayed here the end of may for 7 nights the hotel is situated off the main strip in a quiet location only a 2 minute walk from the lake, restaurants and ferry port. It is a small hotel, family run, we were very impressed, the rooms were very clean towels changed daily and beds i could not fault this hotel at all, lots of choice at breakfast, the family who run it would leave your breakfast ready if you were going out early. We never had any noise problems on the evening, the shower was great very powerful the hotel was immaculately clean could not fault it at all ,i would definatley recommend this hotel the staff were friendly and helpful great little hotel.

We have just returned from a 4 day stay at this wonderful small family run hotel. We have been many times to italy but our first time at lake garda we always go for the smaller hotels because we find them more friendly and welcoming and we were not disappointed with the viginia the people who run it speak good english it is spotlessly clean and in a perfect location. Although only a short break there is so much to do here and we used every minute of it thank you to the thomson reps who gave us ideas of where to go and particulary about the hugo cocktail instead of the usual aperol spritz a very refreshing drink after a long hot day. On a footnote most of the bars at the lakeside we excellent roughly same price for food/drinks and no hassle. We will definitely go back but for longer next time. 5 stars for the hotel, thomsons and the resort

Just got back from 5 nights staying at this lovely hotel in Garda. It was immaculate and the owners took care of everything very well. There was lots of choice for the continental breakfast which was constantly replinished. The hotel is approx 3 mins walk from the lakeside. All the rooms have balconies and air conditioning which was needed as the weather was approx 32 degrees every day. We were independent travellers so booked the Easyjet flight from Gatwick to Verona. The hotel is approx 30 mins taxi ride from the airport. I booked this in advance and was 120 euros return. I also booked the hotel direct. All together it was cheaper than a package holiday. Lots of lovely restaurants in Garda. Owners were extremely pleasant and helpful. They also speak very good English.

My wife and two daughters have just returned from a wonderful 4 night break at Hotel Virginia
After arriving nearly 4 hours late the staff gave us a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
The large three bedded room was spotless with a fantastic balcony over looking the rear of the hotel. The Hotel was just a short walk from the lake and our daughters were astounded when the Lake came into view for the first time
For a last minute short break Hotel Virginia, Garda Town and the Lake and not forgetting Thomsons made the holiday very special.
Excellent small Hotel

Room Tip: Try and get a Balcony

Firstly, this hotel is in an ideal position in Garda. Just 5 minutes walk from the lake but in a quiet road. Although only 3 star, it should be more. The ladies that run it are lovely and very helpful, and speak good English. The room was perfectly adequate and the shower room excellent. There was a balcony with a table and chairs and a garden downstairs. General decoration was excellent and hotel was very clean. Breakfast was the usual continental one, plenty to choose from, and available very early if going on a coach trip or to the airport. No complaints whatever, but if you must have a swimming pool this is not for you, as there isn't one.
