Hotel Ville Montefiori
Ranked #19 of 19 Hotels in Gardone Riviera
Reviewed 4 November 2011

Lake Garda is not a cheap place to stay so at every standard the price of accommodation is higher than other parts of Italy and comparable hotels in other European Hotels. When you take this into account the Hotel Ville Montefiori offers good value for money. It is cheaper than some of the other Hotels - this is in part due to the location (it is about a 10-15 minute walk) from the Gardone harbour and in part due to the fact that parts of the hotel are a little faded. Our room was a good size and even had (an unexpected) small balcony, it was tidy and cleaned every day - we had no complaints though it did have fairly thin walls.

The breakfast was slightly more basic than when we stayed at the Gardone Savoy but offered a range of cold meats, pastries and cakes.

It is at the top of a steep hill, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who would find this difficult or doesn't have a car. Given its hill location the hotel grounds do have a lot of stairs too. However, if you struggle with hills then perhaps Gardone isn't the place for you as many of the places to visit will involve an incline! The Hotel is roughly the same height as many of the restaurants and Il Vittoriale so it really is swings and roundabouts.

It has a very new spa and indoor pool area which is free for guests to use and is equipped to a very high standard. The outdoor pool catches the sun all day round whilst the extensive grounds (faded glory in many parts) are incredible.

The staff were all lovely and very helpful. We saved about £300 staying here rather than the Savoy and I reckon it was worth every penny.

We arrived at this hotel in August 2011 on our honeymoon. The positive aspects were good parking and beautiful gardens and views. The rest was negative. The hotel was at the top of a very steep hill. There was a huge amount of steps around the hotel grounds which made transferring luggage very difficult. Our first room on the arrival night: Damp on walls, mould behind curtains, ants in the bed, furniture hanging off the walls, no services in the room i.e. tea and coffee making facilities, fridge.. After making a complaint we were moved quickly to our next room at 23.00! This room was clean but with no shower only a bath and again no services in the room. Our third room was at the very back of the hotel, appeared clean, had a shower that dripped out water! After declining a fourth room we checked out 24hrs later.. The grounds of the hotel however beautiful are very dark by night and as some of the rooms were outdoors this was an issue.. Overall i wouldnt recommend this hotel as it completely affected the start of our honeymoon and is very expensive for what you get..

We stayed half board in June 2011. Had a de luxe room. The gardens are fantastic. Plenty of places to stroll or just sit and read. Two great pools. One inside and one outside. Spa centre. Staff were very helpful and friendly and without exception spoke English. Food was a real experience, be prepared to eat Italian though. If there is not something you like on the evening menu, they will offer to knock something up for you if you ask.In good weather meals are taken on the terrace and the views over the lake in the evening are breathtaking. Breakfast is bog standard continental, but hey you are in Italy. What did you expect? One slight downside. The hotel is at the top of a fairly steep hill of about three hundred yards, but this is perfectly manageable for anyone even reasonably fit. We are pensioners and we managed it OK. If you want to visit the famous Vittoriale, it is within easy walking distance but get there early in the morning as it gets very busy and you have to queue when inside (except for the gardens). All in all a great hotel, a little old fashioned in some ways but that only adds to its charm.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. Fantastic vista over .

I stayed at the Montefiori as part of a business conference, so my experience may be quite different to that of a holiday maker. The hotel is beautiful, very elegant and old fashioned. The rooms are quite basic, but functional. No 'facilities' to speak of in the rooms, just a standard TV.

The views from the hotel are stunning - looking over Lake Garda. This is due to the fact that the hotel is on top of a hill. A steep hill. Guests must be physically fit and able to walk because of this.

The hotel also has a beautiful fluffy cat that live in the grounds. I would have kidnapped him if I could :)

This hotel ranks as one of the best we have stayed at for magnificent views, wonderful terraces and decor. The gardens were also very special. The room was comfortable and well furnished. The indoor and out door pools were very welcome but cold and with very little by way of service.
The price you pay for good views is that the hotel is up a very steep hill, 1K long ! OK if you have a car, but there is no curtesey bus ! no warning of this and the situation is out of town.
Meals expensive at E40 per person, drinks also expensive.
Maintenance was poor, light bulbs out on entering the room. Very
few guests, lacked atmoshere. Needs a good manager at the top.
