Unlike Emiliano's which I reviewed, I'm not going to write a huge amount as we only dined here once but the main reason I am going to write this review is in terms of visitors who arrive at Gardone Riviera late at night. We arrived around 11 at night and were really hungry. The four restaurants we did visit had all stopped serving food. We were eventually told that Sans Souci was open to 1-2 in the morning which was really convenient for us. Although hungry, we didn't want to eat too much as it was now near midnight so we shared a pizza and ordered a couple of soft drinks (last of the big spenders). The staff were friendly and the food was reasonably priced and good. If you were wanting to eat somewhere particularly romantic, I'd get to Sans Souci early as it is situated down a beautiful little lane with 3 or 4 outside tables. If memory serves me correctly, they do tend to offer you some typical seafood dishes from the area and certain dishes on the menu could be a little pricey but, again, it depends on your budget. It did seem to be frequented by a lot of Italians...always a good sign!

Can't agree with the previous review by the Warringtons. Six of us ate here. Very leisurely meal. Food excellent, portions more than adequate. We could only manage two courses each. My Irish fillet steak was beautifully cooked and certainly as much as I could eat. The starter of white aspargus, quails eggs and truffle, wonderful. Service was excellent and the staff very friendly. English and French spoken. The ambience was excellent. The toilet spectacular! Our total bill for the six of us for two courses and double espessos, and three bottles of wine, two glasses of wine and three bottles of water was 300 euros including a 10% tip. Not cheap but excellent value. Terry & Pat Ward (London UK)

The Sans Souci looks very inviting and romantic at first glance BUT------the guys who run the place put style and presentation above value. The art of nouvelle cuisine with minute portions and elegant presentation is the order of the day. I thought this had died a timely death in the 1980s

This is a pretentious restaurant with ideas above it;s station. Expect to leave hungry and more to the point with a much lighter wallet.

Worse still the service was very slow and the staff distinctly unfriendly.

If you like this tyoe of food and are prepared to pay for it but I'd rather walk around the corner to Emilianos and have well cokked local fish with very friendly service at sensible prices.

We had 2 courses and a bottle of cheap wine and the bill was over 70 Euros.

One to avoid in our opinion
