We stayed at the Grand hotel at the beginning of October 2013. From the moment we stepped foot into the foyer we were made very welcome by the English speaking receptionists and porters. Check-in was easy and we were then taken to our 4th floor room. It was spacious spotlessly clean with a large bathroom. As it was late at night when we arrived we had to wait until the morning to venture out onto our balcony. We had a great view of the lake and although it was small it was adequate with a small table and 2 chairs. Our room (411) was quite a way from the dining room but it suited us because it was quiet at night. Breakfast was superb everything from fresh fruit, good selection of cereals, hot food (eggs cooked on the verandah however you wanted them). The waiters were extremely polite and helpful, you could sit anywhere for breakfast but were given a designated table for dinner. Dinner was 3 courses with a salad bar of which you could have as much as you wanted. The meals were well cooked and nicely presented and the buffet desert table was to die for, there must have been at least 20 to choose from and all delicious. The location was excellent as the boats ran from outside the hotel. Beware though they are quite expensive (28 euros each for a day ticket). The information office was next to the hotel so we arranged a trip to Verona by bus and train which the young lady organised all the tickets and times for us, cost 20 euros for both of us. Local buses run quite frequently from outside the front of the hotel but you have to remember to validate your ticket on the bus and also train tickets on the station. Although the weather was not very good were able to go out every day either on the ferry or on the bus. The only criticism we have of this hotel is that the drinks were expensive, we had a pot of tea while we were waiting for our transport to take us back to the airport and it was 12 euros. All in all an excellent holiday and would recommend this hotel to my friends.

I was a visitor to this very comfortable and splendid hotel several times in the summer.

The first visits in July were for breakfast and a drink. The service and value for money for the high standard are very impressive. €4.50 for coffee and croissants served on the terrace on a very pleasant sunny Sunday morning by a tremendously friendly efficient waiter was superb.

I returned in August 2013 with my wife and we had a delightful lunch in the Lemon Restaurant with very friendly affable yet precise service and the delight at looking unimpeded at the Lake in the August sunshine. I have now to work up a reason to get to stay and look forward to completing that.

We have just had 5 nights at the Grand Hotel and will definitely go back. With all its Victorian charm. We highly recommend the half board as the food was so good we couldn't wait for dinner time to come. We did find that we were out of season for some of the excursions, but didn't miss out on the ferry crossing to different towns around the lake.

This was our 3rd visit and once again we had a wonderful time. We have always booked directly with the hotel (superior room with lake view) and the rooms have always been lovely. We cannot fault the hotel in any way, the staff are all really friendly/helpful and the service in second to none.

We have always stayed B&B and the breakfast is superb. Lunch at either Winnie's Pool or Piano bar is excellent. We have only eaten dinner in the A La Carte Lemon Garden restaurant which serves by far the best food we have had anywhere and the service is superb (you must try the crepes for desert, cooked at your table side - amazing !).

Evening drinks in Winnie's Piano bar are a must, run by the lovely Massimo and his wonderful staff. Happy hour before dinner is great and then there is usually live entertainment later in the evening if you wish to return after dinner (we usually do). Have read another review where someone said "don't get a room near Winnie's bar due to the noise", but we would have to disagree. We stayed above it on out 1st visit and it was lovely to listen to the music from below (it's easy listening not a disco).

Also read reviews with people complaining about the price of drinks. Yes it's not cheap, but when you consider the location, quality and service we think it's worth it. Have paid more for drinks at the Sofitel Gatwick !!!

There is a ferry stop just outside the hotel which is great if you want to visit other towns and Gardone itself is a lovely little town with plenty of other bars/restaurants if you wish to venture out.

All in all this is our favourite holiday destination and we hope to continue returning for many years to come.

Room Tip: I would always book a room with a lake view (superior or above) and you get the best views from the...

Great place to be centrally based on lake garda with good access both ways for the regular but expensive boat service.( promotion card for lake Garda gives 20% off trips) Also regular (and cheap) bus service along western side of lake with bus stop outside front door. Great travel agent in square beside hotel who are very helpful.

We stayed 10 nights in October. Lots of previous reviews on this grand lakeside hotel which has a majority of rooms with balconies and views looking out at lake Garda. Rooms to rear overlook road and might have view of parts of the mountain.. Well decorated large room with very large bed and good sized bathroom. Everything is very clean with frequent changes of towels and sheets. Despite very poor weather the room was warm. (Also has air conditioning for those more lucky with the weather) The five course evening meal (no coffee included) is varied and of good quality. High spots have been excellent lamb chops and various fish dishes as main courses. Low spot is that on occasions vegetables are not as hot as I like them. The breakfast was ok with a reasonable range of cheeses and cold meat plus a cooked option. The waiters provide good service and reception staff are very helpful. Elegant lounges and good Wifi connection make it a pleasure to sit in the armchairs and surf the net while looking at the lake This really is a grand hotel. But has bar and snack prices to match! Classy evening entertainment in bar. If I returned and had a choice of locations I would choose this place every time.

Sirminone delightful but packed, limone almost impossible to move in and Malcesine ,well worth visiting but very touristy and busy and this is October! Nicest ordinary place on lake is Salo and make sure you visit the large church. The inside is magnificent. Big market on Saturday.
Warning- A lot of buildings, attractions are closed on Monday. Also be aware that particularly shops can close for 2-3 hours in middle of day but stay open till 1930 approx.

Room Tip: Get a lake view. Higher floor the better.

I had the preconceived notion that this hotel would be a step back to the late 19th century. What I found was that it was one of the best run and best staffed hotels I have stayed in. Added to that I found the town and region had a 'well good' feeling. The local wines and produce are exceptional and at very good prices. The hotel breakfast is OK but evening meal first class.
The cons: Not suitable for young children. Hotel is spread along the lakeside so room could be a fair distance from the reception and lounge. WiFi only in the lounge but free. Gardone village is steep so not for those with walking difficulties. No night life other than restaurants and hotel bar.

Room Tip: If you don't mind the walk then 4th floor in the new wing (316+/416+) has biggest / best rooms...

16 October 2013. Just spent a week at the Grande hotel Gardone at Gardone lake Garda. We travelled from Milan by train alighting at Brescia where we got a taxi to the hotel. The cost of this being 69 Euros. We could have reached the hotel by ferry from Brescia or from the next port Desenzano but this takes ages and the ferries are every few hours. For those wishing to take the ferry the hotel has a landing stage on its doorstep. There is also a frequent bus service from Brescia.
From the moment we walked in the hotel reception couldn't do enough for us. Marika in particular was delightfull. She escorted us to our accomodation and explained how things worked and what the meal times were etc. The evening meals in the dining area were excellent although the breakfasts could have done with some proper bacon and sausages instead of the streaky bacon and small franfurter hot dog type sausages.
Local buses stop ouside the hotel and the ferries of which there is a fast and a slow one pull up in front of the hotel.
The hotel is on the lake shore with lovely views across the lake to the mountains. There are a number of local bars, restraunts and shops adjacent to the hotel. There is also a park with clay tennis courts nearby.
For a lake view room I would suggest no lower than the second floor as the view could be obstructed by trees. Our room was 255 and had a window and a french window opening onto a balcony with a lovely vista . I would surmise that the rooms above this one 355 etc would be of the same design. This room was also convenient for the reception areas.
All in all one of the better hotels we have stayed in around the Italian lakes area.

Room Tip: 2nd floor or above for lake views. Some rooms have been refurbished.
