“Great stay and excellent view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2013

Very friendly staff, nice facilities and an amazing view. We came early in the season, but the people working there was so nice and friendly. I also recommend the hotel restaurant, the dinners were excellent. Anyone staying at the hotel must take a walk up to Il Vittoriale, an amazing and ecccentric house/museum/garden were the fascist poet and war hero Gabriele D'Annuzio stayed.

A little dated, but everything clean and well kept.
Food was lovely, service was excellent. Nothing was too much for the staff.
We spent a week here just before summer season for our honeymoon and we're not disappointed.
The local restaurants were fabulous, and the views from our room were incredible.
Would definitely recommend!!

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for your kind review.

The Savoy Palace is a historical building from the beginning of the 19th century and has been restored carefully with much love in details in the original Art Deco style.

We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your honeymoon at the Savoy; which place would be better than Gardone Riviera and its surroundings for a romantic holiday?

Thank you for the compliments about rooms, service, food and staff; we always do our best to make your stay an unforgettable one.

Truly yours,

Silvia Dalla Bona

We recently stayed 7 nights at the Hotel Savoy Palace in Gardone Riviera as part of a Great Rail Journey's tour. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel and had a beautiful room on the 1st floor with a balcony overlooking the pool and the lake. Our room was spacious and clean, although it did have a bit of a smell that seemed like some past guests had been smoking in the room. The staff and everyone that we interacted with at the hotel we friendly and professional.

We ate in the dining room for breakfast each day and most of the dinners in the evening. The food was surprisingly good and well presented. We've been on other tours before and stayed at nice hotels but often the food doesn't live up to the expectations. We didn't feel that way at the Savoy and were very pleased with all the food. The breakfasts were plentiful with an array of hot and cold dishes, fruits, cereals, pastries and cheeses. The dinners, although somewhat limited because we were on a fixed meal plan, were still excellent and exceeded our expectations.

The hotel is conveniently located right on the lake shore and you can stroll down along a promenade which has many restaurants, bars and cafes as well as the ferry terminal which is within a two minute walk.

While we didn't use the pool while we were there (it was October and a little chilly), we did see one person taking a swim. The pool was very nice and had lots of lounges around it.

We felt very relaxed and secure in the area and I would highly recommend the Savoy for anyone staying in Gardone Riviera. If we return to Lake Garda we would certainly consider staying at the Savoy Palace again, and that says it all.

Room Tip: If you want an unobstructed view of the lake, ask for a room on floors 3 or 4.

The double room was just lovely with superb lake views from the small balcony. The bathroom was very spacious and extremely clean, with a lovely deep bath. We stayed as part of a Great Rail Journeys tour so meals were generally limited to two choices of starter and main and one dessert choice. Food was fairly good on the whole and the friendly waiters were delightful. The hotel is well positioned for a stroll to shops, bars and boat trips. Walking to nearby towns was not so good because of traffic and lack of footpaths. There is plenty to do in this beautiful area.

Stayed at Savoy Palace, Gardone Riviera, 6-10 September 2013. Booked as a couple via Expedia (not part of a large tour group). The hotel was absolutely stunning - located right on the lakefront, walking distance of everything in the town, and only five minutes with large cases from the ferry stage (we arrived by bus/ferry from Verona via Garda). The lady on reception was friendly and ultra-professional, and showed us personally to our room, with a porter to lug the cases without having to ask. If only all hotels in Italy treated arriving guests like this !

Room 418 was in the modern southern end block of the hotel, with a huge covered balcony giving us a 180-degree panoramic view of the length of the lake, with Isola Garda and the Garda / Bardolino shoreline in the distance - absolutely stunning view - we couldn't have wished for better. Room was excellent - impeccably clean, comfortable, enough space for clothes to be hung, and (wonder of wonders in Italy) a kettle and tea/coffee in the room..

We were booked bed-and-breakfast only, so can't comment about dinner quality. Breakfast however was a huge spread - the ubiquitous scrambled eggs / bacon / sausage assortment for those who have to have it, plus boil-your-own fresh eggs, and an excellent assortment of cold meats, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals, fruit, fruit juices, preserves, lots of local breads / croissants / cornetti and rolls - and a roller toaster to die for. You can't of course get tea made with actually-boiling water, but then only the British would find that a problem, and there was a good choice of tea bags at the bar. Breakfast outside on the terrace by the pool was just the way to start the day, and was neither crowded nor hurried.

The only (repeat only) criticism we'd mention is the complete lack of fresh cold milk at the breakfast bar - plenty of tinny-tasting UHT but we were assured by the helpful waiter that there was absolutely no fresh milk in the hotel. Come on, Savoy Palace - we found fresh milk in the local baker's shop in the town, and the local supermarkets will all stock it- surely you can keep a few litres of "latte fresco parzialmente scremato" in the fridge in this day and age for us fussy guests.

Milk aside (and it was a very minor issue) we found the hotel absolutely first-class, and well worth the cost. We would certainly recommend the Savoy Palace to the independent traveller without hesitation.

I read reviews about this Hotel before leaving the UK. Some of the reviews were pretty poor. I can only think those reviewers would not be happy staying anywhere. The Hotel itself is a wonderful building, built around 1910, keeping the period feeling perfectly, whilst maintaining a fresh and clean atmosphere. We found all staff to be perfectly mannered, helpfull, and friendly. House maids are very friendly, and helpful, our room was a lake view room with balcony, looking straight over Lake Garda, towards Salo.
Food at the Savoy Palace is also exceptional, I have eaten less memorable food in alleged top class restaurants. The standard of the food both buffet breakfast, and evening meals (we were half board) is outstanding. It was a dilemma often, choosing a course, as you wanted to try all of them, the food was that good. I speak some Italian, well quite a bit actually, and it makes all the differnce, well at least to me it did, as the local Italian citizens of Lago Di Garda do cooperate when one is trying to sound like a native. Local public transport is also very good, once you have got your mind around the subtle differences in the timetables. We visited Salo, & Gargnano by bus, fares are very reasonable, and the buses are what we know as coaches (no graffity or ripped seats like in the UK). Riva & Malcesine were reached by boat on the lake, which in itself is a good opportunity to see the various sites of the mountains on the way. Verona was also easy to get to, a 50 minute bus ride from Gardone to Desenzano, then a 20 minute train ride to Verona, and a short 5 minute bus ride to the centre of Verona. In total the cost for the day trip to Verona, 32 euros for 2 people. Verona is a must see, especially a visit in to the Amphitheatre. Verona would be a good 3 day city break in its own right.
So to recap, don't take any notice of the people who criticise the Savoy Palace, I have not a clue what they were talkiing about, unless they themselves were rude and discourteous. Talking of which, my only crtiticism of our weeks holiday to Gardone, was some of the German tourists there, who were overtly not friendly, and did not hide their attitude toward the English, they would walk in your way without any regard, and sadly back up the sterotypical immage we have of their race. I am a tolerant person, and enjoy meeting people form other countries. However these (in the main octogenrians) did nothing for Germany's reputation. We had a couple of German tourists in the room above ours for a couple of days, they were obviously smokers, and I presume to get around the no smoking rule must have hung there arms out of the window, resulting in small mountains of cigarette ash forming on our balcony. I found that to be disgusting, and the only time I have ever experienced this activity.

Room Tip: I would recommend up grading to a Lake view room, it is well worth it. Room 407 particularly. The ro...

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for the comment you left on tripadvisor.
We are very glad of your high regards of the Savoy Palace and generally of Lake Garda with all its nice places to visit.
Gardone Riviera is the perfect place to spend a relaxing holiday, but also a town with lots of things to see, as the Botanical Garden and the Vittoriale, and it is the ideal place to start excursions to other towns and to discover other areas of lake Garda.

We are also very honoured that you appreciated so much the kindness of our staff and the food. Our main Chef Guglielmo Mauri is very well known in the area for his Italian cuisine, which combines in an excellent way the typical savours of national and regional dishes.

Thank you again for your nice words and we would be glad to welcome you again at the Savoy Palace.

Yours sincerely,

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the Savoy Palace. Had a large, spotlessly clean room with a terrace and fantastic views of the lake. A nice touch was the welcoming basket of fruit in our room on arrival.Breakfast was buffet style with a menu choice and waiter service for evening meal with a good varied menu. The hotel is situated alongside a small lakeside promanade with a dozen or so restaraunt / bars and shops. We had a car for the week but the lakeside tour boats stop a few minutes walk from the hotel. We would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: A lakeside room with a balcony or terrace is a must.
