After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit hesitant when we arrived at the hotel. We had booked through Expedia, which does not allow for rooms with views/balconies, but because it was our honeymoon, the hotel was nice enough to place us in a room with a pool/lake view albeit no balcony (number 206). In addition, they were nice enough to provide us with Champagne and Strawberries on arrival!

The hotel overall is fantastic. Breakfast was standard, with mostly tinned fruit and various pastries.

The pool is great and always the place to relax after a long day of visiting the othe towns around the lake. Just make sure you place your towel on one of the sun beds early, as they can get taken up quite quickly.

We were concerned about the variety of restaurants near the hotel, but there are some wonderful restaurants along the promenade, that you will never get bored. The pizza and pastas are fanatastic and a gelato to top it off.

Overall, the Savoy Hotel was great and I would definately recommend it for visits to Lake Garda.

Stayed for 3 nights with wife & teenage sons as part of a travelling holiday.

Can't figure the review below - this was the best hotel we stayed in.

Front desk staff were ok, any attempt at Italian on arrival helps.

Rooms were a good size, clean and well appointed. Our lake-view rooms had no balcony/french window but the majority of them did.

The one criticism was of the bath/shower arrangement, it was designed so that when you used the shower attachement, water run-off spilt on to the floor. My wife flooded the bathroom and the carpet immediately outside first time she used it, the concierge & cleaning staff dealt with it efficiently - not the first time?

We stayed B&B, and thought the breakfasts were terrific - fresh fruit salads, bacon & egg, taken poolside when the weather was decent.

Gardone was lovely, smaller and 'more refined' than the other resorts we saw. The receptionist left us with the impression there wasn't much there, but there was enough - basic shops down a narrow street, bars & restaurants on a smart lake-side promenade with a couple of squares linking the two; one night a concert band played, very good, just sitting on the steps listening and having an ice-cream. We ate 2 nights at the promenade restaurant of the 'hotel du Lac', food was excellent & the staff friendly and tolerant of our bad Italian. Wouldn't recommend the restaurant facing it across the square, chaotic service the night we ate, head waiter (looks like Ben Elton) seemed to be heading for a Basil Fawlty-style crack-up at any moment, much glaring at his waitresses, not a happy bunny.

Bar Monza was good for drinks and several others looked promising.

Hotel Pool & sun lounger area was small but pleasant; adjacent beach club proved to be good value for money compared with others we came across, but wear something on your feet if you swim - 'beach' is very stony.

All in all, hotel and resort highly recommended, but half a mark off for that shower! If you stay, though, make sure you book a room with a lake view, it'll cost more but it is worth it, Lake Garda is beautiful.

  • Liked — Good accommodation in an excellent location
  • Disliked — the shower; and the underground car park

This hotel was not cheap, but the penny pinching had to be seen to be believed.
The reception staff did not seem particularly pleased to see us on our arrival, and there were a number of defects in our room, eg lights not working, hooks falling off the wall.
These were reported, but not rectified. Once we found the manager, we were given another room, but we were the ones who had to do the chasing - there was no real communication from the hotel staff.
Replacement toilet paper, soap was not forthcoming, unless you specifically asked for it.
The bed sheets and pillow slips were not changed every night, and dirty table cloths were turned upside down, rather than be changed.
The view from the balcony was beautiful, but the penny pinching of the staff marred the experience of the stay at the hotel.
Apart from this hotel, we stayed at two cheaper hotels in Italy this summer, and the standards and friendliness were markedly superior.
Our advice would be, if you are going to Gardone Riviera, look at some other hotels.

A fabulous all-round experience at The Savoy Palace. Booked a deluxe room with lake view - lets face it what's the point of going to Lake Garda and getting a room overlooking a busy, noisy, road.

Our room on the fourth floor had the most beautiful view across the lake. Otherwise, the hotel is very well appointed with lovely evening meals (breakfast is a bit lacklustre though). Friday nights feature a B-B-Q with excellent aperatifs on the terrace beforehand. This hotel has the best swimming pool and sun terrace in the resort.

The other really nice hotel in the resort, The Grand, has a very nice cocktail bar - good for early evening cocktails - though the pool/terrace isn't so good.

Resort is quiet and elegant - very well placed for visiting other resorts on the Lake.

My husband and I booked a 1 week stay here in July. We chose this town as it was described as being one of the quietest on the lake which is exactly what we wanted. The vast majority of the people on our flight out were going to Riva which would be the busiest spot on the lake. The town is lovely, with some fabulous little restaurants along the lake front right next to the hotel. The hotel itself from the outside is really picturesque and old-style, with lovely modern rooms. There is a nice pool, and thankfully no mad rush down to book sun-loungers in the morning - there were always plenty available. There is a beautiful terrace overlooking the lake where you can have your drinks in the evening. The bar staff were fantastic. The barman makes a fabulous Belini, and they were perfectly willing to try out cocktails that they hadn't made before. We stayed under the half-board option and dinner every night was absolutely delicious. Giovanni, our waiter was always most efficient.
All-in-all, I would list Lake Garda as one of the nicest places I have visited and would recommend it to anyone. Gardone itself is ideal for those looking for a quiet relaxing week in the most beautiful of settings, and the Hotel Savoy Palace is lovely. The one tip I would give is when you are booking ask for a room facing the lake. We didn't, and in hindsight I wished we had as the views are spectacular.

Lake Garda is stunning but be warned of the heavy traffic in the area particularly over a weekend.

The hotel is lovely & the hotel staff very helpful. Our room was on the first floor so the views were a little limited - suggest you try & get higher up if you want better views of the lake.

Parking is an issue as the car park is municipally owned and the hotel only has a small allocation of spaces. If these are occupied, you will have to pay parking fees but not sure how much. This may/may not be cheaper than the hotel actually charges you but not sure.

In typical form, the sunbeds around the smallish pool were claimed with towels very early in the morning so if you want to spend some time at the pool, grab your sunbed early!

Breakfast is typically continental but you can sit outside which is delightful - watch out for the sparrows, very cheeky indeed!

Just returned from the Savoy Palace and were a little disappointed with the hotel. It is classed as a 4* but we felt this rating a little unjustified. Whilst the hotel was very comfortable, we were lacking in toiletries in our room, no mini bar/fridge, only 1 sachet of shower gel per person each day and the breakfast was very limited in choice, the only cooked part being scrambled or boiled eggs and bacon, no fresh fruit salad, only tinned and it was the same every day. The evening meal was OK, but again the salad bar remained the same, the main course was lacking in vegetables and imagination, not worthy of a 4* rating. The hotel is situated a good 20 minute walk from the centre of Riva and whilst we were aware of this, it did become rather tedious especially if you'd been out for the day and then wanted to return to the centre in the evening. Apart from that we had a wonderful holiday, with plenty to see and I would recommend Riva to anyone.
