“Great stay at Grand Hotel Fasano!”
Reviewed 18 August 2012

The Grand Hotel Fasano enjoys an idyllic location on the shore of Lake Garda. I recently spent 5 nights there, wanting to relax and get away from the stress of work and city life. It was an excellent solution. Stunning views over the lake are complemented by a well-run Spa. Despite a late booking I had a small but well-appointed room with a balcony and marvellous view over the lake. Good quality restaurant and less formal terrace bar if you want something more relaxed. The service is discreetly elegant but not snobby or intrusive as you sometimes find in similarly ranked hotels. The staff, the Concierge and Marco, the Maître d’Hotel, were very helpful. Look out for offers – mine included a 200-Euro voucher for treatments at the Spa, which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you want to relax and spoil yourself a bit, thoroughly recommended!

The third time we have spent a week here. The gardens are beautiful, the sun loungers very comfortable and the view superb. The spa and pool are lovely - swimming in the lake is an extra bonus. The breakfasts are fantastic as is the food in the restaurant - Marco, the head waiter is brilliant and gives excellent advice on wines to compliment your choice of food. The hotel itself is beautiful - all staff are very friendly and are enthusiastic to speak English. Unfortunately still no iron in the room - this would be very welcome next year!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a lake view

We have spent 3 wonderful nights in the smaller part of this hotel, totally revamped in the last year, comfy beds, fresh-new everything. The lake is as warm as the outside pool, there is a great pool inside with steam/sauna rooms ...mostly older german croud with an occasional annoying russian on his cell phone while having breakfast or dining...lakeview rooms are worth your stay otherwise you'd be looking at a parking lot (free parking) and hear the main road's traffic. Other restaurants worth visiting are 20-30 min away...Salo. Do nothing, just enjoy the beatiful views, the weather and sip something cool while lying under your umbrella..

Room Tip: Lakeside with a balcony or the new wing....

Expensive, but...if your idea of a good holiday is beautiful surroundings, immaculately maintained public areas and rooms, excellent food and wine, friendly helpful staff, and one of the best lake views in Italy, then this is the place. Gardone has some of the best hotels on the lake, and this may be the best of them. 15 minute pleasant walk to the nearest landing stage for a trip on the lake, and for a choice of more restaurants in Gardone.

Room Tip: Lake view a must (for the view, and also to avoid traffic noise at the back of the hotel).

Our favourite hotel. We have been here many times as there is so much to love about it:- great location on the lake, fantastic breakfast, great service, wonderful spa, idyllic surroundings. Most of the guests are German but staff speak good English and could not be more helpful / friendly. It is expensive but worth it.

Room Tip: Choose a lake view room for specacular views of the lake, especially at sunrise / sunset.

I booked this trip for my honeymoon last year, on the strength of the ratings of this hotel on trip advisor.

It is in an amazing location, the Gardone Riviera is beautiful and much less busy than some of the other towns around the lake.

The hotel itself is beautiful, rooms are well kept and the gardens are lovely. We had a room on the first floor and my only slight niggle was the huge magnolia trees in the garden which blocked some of the view to the lake, but hey apparently they have been there for more than 100 years so i can't complain!

The conceige was incredibly helpful, along with all of the staff. The maid service was first class, she was very generous with the complimentary chocolates.

There were a couple of other English couples here, but mainly Germans.

Overall, would definately go back.

Stayed for a week during last week of August 2011. We had exceptionally hot weather (about 40 degrees) which is great, but other than in our room, the lack of air conditioning in the common areas of the hotel did mean that there was no rest bite from the heat. Personally I would have preferred a few cooler areas, but that is my personal preference and not necessarily a criticism. The hotel itself, is very beautiful and it certainly is a relaxing retreat from the real world. All this comes at a price of course, but nothing out of the ordinary for a hotel in this class.

The staff, especially the more junior ones were very helpful, attentive and friendly. The hotel manager on the other hand, not so. I found some things very strange about this hotel. There are no irons in rooms, and you cannot get one. You have to use the ironing service. The discussion I had with the manager about this left me with a sour taste. I felt like I was being spoken down to (because i'm younger than him) and apparently I am the only person in the entire history of the hotel to ask for an iron. I'd suggest that i'm not, but more like ironing is a chance to squeeze a few extra euros out of me. On reflection, I'd agree with the manager 'it is a question of money' - it makes them look cheap, not me!

I also found the casual (for on the sun lounges) menu very strange. Unbelievably there is no option of a sandwich, and apparently it's impossible to make one!! Again, maybe it's just me, but i've never been to a hotel where I can't get a sandwich!!

Our Lake Side room was very pleasant, although our 'double' bed was actually two singles pushed together. Not very romantic! From what I saw walking past open doors, I would not want to stay with a mountain view room - they looked very small and dark!

They also don't take American Express, which is strange as I booked the holiday with my Amex travel service.

Overall, I'm left with mixed feelings about this hotel. Unquestionably a very beautiful, relaxing hotel. Small details like not being able to get an iron or sandwich or having to sit in reception to get wifi just let it down slightly and become magnified over the course of a week long stay. If they could sort these minor issues, it would be a perfect hotel. If they can't, I'm really not sure I would return, not for a week anyway.

Room Tip: Get lake side junior suite as a minimum for a decent room.
