WE were there the last weekend of the season. It was so lovely we met the owners and thier famililies and there was a super roving tasting party. Our room was super. The weather was cold cloudy and rainy but the still helps us take out the kayaks and gave us tips on things to see and do.

On note I would put more towels in the rooms

This is simply the best on Lago di Garda. It has a large gorgeous garden with direct access to the lake. Rooms are fine but ask for lake view you won’t regret as the view is just stunning. There are a few very nice golf courses close to Fasano which we played in the morning to enjoy the hotel in the afternoon. Ask the concierge to make the golf reservation and you get special discount on the green fee.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lake view

This hotel is rated 5 star for a reason. Beautiful suite with incredible view. Great restaurants on site as well as indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi inside and outside, incredible spa with 2 types of steam and 2 types of sauna, as well as unusual foot stimulator. Private resting area as well as all the massages, etc usually offered at a great spa as well as some unique to the Grand Hotel. Staff ready to help any time day or night, concierge very helpful as well. Family owned with a very personal touch not usually found at a resort of this size. Easy access to the lake and plenty of parking. Don't miss the incredible breakfast overlooking the lake. Can't say enough about this one, will be back soon.

It is a challenge to find nicer hotels on Lago di Garda that accept larger dogs. For this reason, we were pleasantly surprised that this renovated 4+ star, turn-of-the century Grand Hotel welcomed all of us, both 2 and 4 legged guests. The location directly on the lake with large private garden was a dream! We enjoyed the direct access to the lake from the hotel grounds, allowing us to avoid the small, rather uninviting pool overrun by children. Even though the hotel was right off the main road, the garden provided an oasis of calm--great for snoozing or reading in the comfortable chaise lounges. The staff at the front desk was attentive and friendly, ready with recommendations and sound information. The rooms were not quite up to snuff for a 4+ star hotel we felt: we got the impression that the bare minimum had been done in terms of renovation. The room was decorated unimaginatively, lacking any kind of style and the white plastic upholstery covering of the sofa left a less than elegant impression. But the bathroom was functional, the room clean and bright and the glorious view from the balcony almost made up for what was lacking. While we waited for the restaurant to open, we adjourned to the bar with the newly appointed modern wooden deck. There we savored our favorite brand of 'Saten' (similar to prosecco) from Franciacorte and munched heavenly snacks from the hotel's almost-star-restaurant (Il Fagiano) as we enjoyed the view and reminisced on our day. Lovely. And our meal and the service at 'Il Fasano' were unexpectedly good. To be avoided, however, is the other casual restaurant which serves the half-board. During our visit, there seemed only to be server-trainees working. Unfortunately, the service was awful. The servers were woefully inexperienced in the ways of the service industry and rarely seen. Our fish came out cold and alone on a plate, wholly ungarnished, with no vegetables as described (why did no one notice?). Our meals were totally unappealing and bland-tasting. My advice: book a table at the better restaurant and enjoy being pampered and forget about the little bit more you're paying. It's vacation, after all.

Stayed for 11 days Sept 13. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, always going the extra mile to help. The hotel is clean and old but well kept. Not a modern hotel, a nice mix of character and old world, the maid service is great and the room is always clean and well maintained. Breakfast is very good. It is very well run and maintained - but not the most up to date. Minor, small niggles - the internet is poor, slow and you have to log on repeatedly. The gym is really a small fitness room and the only place in the hotel without air con which is odd. And you have to book the gym as a fitness instructor uses it for his clients. The Spa is relaxing and was quiet when we stayed. The only other minor thing is that the food and drinks tend to be cool; luke warm at best. The high end restaurant was nice but frankly the lower end restaurant is better!. I would happily stay here again and recommend it though, mainly as the staff are so nice and it is a superb lake side location. A lovely place to chill and relax with friendly staff. They recommended some great restaurants nearby too, so eat out a few times!

Room Tip: Choose a superior room

We stayed here for three nights after a hectic three days sightseeing and going to the opera in Verona. It was like arriving in heaven! The beautiful gardens and terraces overlooking the lake are simply stunning and the level of luxury in the bedroom and public rooms certainly warrants the 5star rating. The staff are friendly but so professional that they appear to anticipate your needs before you are aware of them yourself. I particularly liked the way they not only turn down the beds whilst you are at dinner but also tidy up and put new towels and toiletries in the bathroom. The beds and bed linen were luxurious but only one niggle! Our king size bed consisted of two singles pushed together which is normal in hotels, however they were not fixed and being on castors we almost disappeared down the gap several times!

Room Tip: A lake view is a must

This hotel is simply stunning. Two restaurants, one fantastic and one awesome. Everything here is excellent from the views to the garden. My only criticism is lack of English TV channels and you do need your own transport, as Gardone Riviera is not the largest of towns. All meals, including breakfast, are served overlooking the lake and the service is excellent. Our meals where exceptional throughout. Rooms are thoroughly clean and new towels twice a day. Fridge in the room with water supplied daily.

Room Tip: Lake facing
