Sant Alphio Garden Hotel & Spa

we had a room with a view of Etna and the gardens and pool/bar.there was an extra charge for the room upgrade rm542. everything was clean and tidy.the small fridge was usefull in room for cold drinks. The brekky was continental but substantial although aftr 7 days a bit much maybe...the dinning room was very inviting and the staff very corteous...yes the owner was there lots and the evening meals were on a grand scale .The quality ,quantity and service were all first class. visually a treat and .gents wore long trousers, ladies dressed up mostly,
the hotel was surrounded by beautifull flowers and features etc and the spa was ab fab and seemed underused.certain people did reserve pool side chairs even at 8am..but overall a hotel we could recommend for a fab relaxing week with an ab fab diff evening meal each night.
slightly hard bed and poor pillows but no big deal..
not much 2 do unless you book excursions..and their beach is all stones/peebles
wi fi too dear sorta but the hilton nearby had free in foyer
all in all 4 outta 5 for this rather nice 4 star hotel.

Room Tip: pay 4 upgrade room

On arriving at the hotel our bags were delivered to our room. We had a partial sea view room on the fourth floor for which we had paid extra.. The bathroom was tiny. The shower was a tight fit with two sliding doors which kept coming off the runners. Once my wife couldn't get out of the shower! I damaged a finger attempting to put one of the doors back on its runner. Adjoining our room their was an intercommunicating door which had been thinly boarded up. Consequently, our sleep was disturbed when the occupants retired and arose early (05.30hrs)! There was no welcoming brochure with instructions about tv and air conditioning useage.
The restaurant staff were surly. Dishes were plonked down. The food was good.the best experience at this hotel was in the evening when you could watch Mount Etna erupting. The glow from the crater and subsequent lava.flow was breathtaking!
The hotel's beach was located over 100metres away reached by walking down an unkempt alley. Well before the sun set the beach staff took away the umbrellas.
the reception staff were always helpful.

It was with trepidation after reading some of the horrid reviews of this lovely hotel, however on arrival the hotel looks beautiful, we checked in and got a lovely room on the 4th floor (420). The view was the sea and the lovely town of Taormina in the hills. Dinner is superb, all the staff very smart and courteous, I can't understand some of the comments about the dining room being chaos, as they coped very well, with nearly 200 guests per night and some nights they had events on in the gardens!!!! The gardens are beautiful and the owner Sebastion takes so much pride in them, having built the hotel himself, he loves to be hands on, and nothing is too much for him. The bed we had was a queen size and very comfy too. So please anybody looking to stay, don't let some of the comments put you off, we had an amazing 11 nights and will defo be going back.

Room Tip: Would loved to have had a room with seaview and etna as they have them in the hotel.

A lovely hotel with large and comfortable rooms, air-conditioning, excellent food, and service. The owner was always around keeping an eye on things - and it showed. Small gardens but large outdoor pool, plus a heated indoor pool and jacussi. Massages available for those rich enough.
From our balcony at night we could see Etna erupting -magic.

Room Tip: Get one facing towards Etna, you might be lucky enough to see it erupt.

Good hotel and facilities great location. However the Germans were reserving pool side sun loungers. The management should look out for this as reservations were not permitted and sun loungers are in short supply, the only down side to the hotel. Traditional Italian breakfast. Tinned fruit and sweet pastries not great.

Room Tip: If you find anyone reserving a sun lounger take there towel or stupid a4 laminated German flag to th...

Stayed four nights as part of tour with Riviera, its a very pretty hotel &nice grounds had a good size swimming pool but towels were charged for one euro
the rooms are spacious with balcony with lovely views of Mt Etna
The food was a bit of a let down, not the standard we expected of a four star hotel
wi fi was charged at 5euro for 2 days again we expected this to be free ,drinks were expensive
it would have been nice to have had tea/coffee in room there was a fridge but little use not having a kettle etc
The hotel has its own Private Beach about five - ten minutes walk also plenty of bars etc near by
The dining room is massive & when several different tour groups are dining at the same time can be very noisy

Room Tip: we had first floor easy to nip up the stairs, did not have to wait for the lift which was slow

The hotel looks very good & no expense has been spared on the building & grounds. It is badly let down, however, by the very hard lumpy beds & very flat pillows. There is also a charge of 8 euros to use the indoor pool as well as having to also pay 1 euro for a pool towel. The price of drinks are very expensive, as well. The reception staff were very rude & argumentative to our tour guide because some members of our group arrived in shorts! There is also a charge to use the computer, 3 euros an hour.
