“A place for the fish gourmet - Un luogo per i buon gustai del pesce”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

A very nice restaurant at the north end of the Giardini Naxos' bay with view over the sea and Taormina. We get a table, even if it was ful,l thanks to the owner, who was very kind and zealous, vice the service team, who wasn't at the same level. On the other side we were delighted with the menu, which has his focus on fish dishes. The mussels gratiné, the pasta with zucchini and scampi as well as the grilled sword fish steak were fantastic! Averytime again.

“delicious seafood, fantastic pasta a la norma! loved it!”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

strait off the bus from catania we strolled around by the seafront and happened upon this family run restaurant. The menu was really extensive and great value for money. We visited twice and wished we could go back again but decided to try other places! the white wine we chose was a local product and called Funaro pimzeri- an absolute must with pasta dishes!

I was bowled over by this little, unpretentious restaurant, it has no frills but great food at a really really good price!

thanks to the owner for treating us so well!

“They need to look into details”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

located on the promenade of Giardini Naxos, il Porticcioli seems to be a family run restaurant. Old tiring decor, very simple with an average selection menu based on fish.

Some of the items on the menu and more than one weren't available, same goes for the beer in which we were informed that they only serve Italian beer, different from what was on the menu.

I opted for a seafood platter which was supposed to include the 'contorno'. The food wasn't bad, especially the calamari and swordfish which were very good. However the 'contorno' left much to be desired.

All in all, if this place take care of the small details, they would improve a lot.

“Worst restaurant on planet”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

We like to try different restaurants when traveling and tried this one. We were shown a table and given menus. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and decided to have an appetizer, half a liter of wine. My husband had planned to order the II piccolo linguine and for myself a calzone. We closed our menu and waited for a waiter to take our order. This is not an extremely large restaurant and most people were outside eating -- approximately six tables of couples. The waiter came to the edge of the door several times, looked around and went back inside. Finally a waitress came over and took the order of a couple to our left who had sat down after us. She then turned to our table, started to get ready to take the order, then promptly dropped all the menus she had in her hand on our table, indicated she would be right back and went into the restaurant. So we waited. Then the waiter comes with a half a liter of wine and a bread basket and we've thought this was their way of saying "sorry, we messed up." No. Instead he looked at us and realized he was at the wrong table. We then saw our waitress at another table. Basically I think I could have flown back to America, gone grocery shopping, cooked our meal and brought it back faster than us even trying to order food here. We left so I can't comment on the food, but if the service is any indication, then the food must be the same -- saying it is poor is only being kind.

“Nice and simple pasta”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

We have eaten hear twice and have ordered different pasta dishes on both occasions. And each time we were not disappointed with lovely flavours and al dente pasta. Two large plates of pasta plus a litre of house white for €31, including bread and cover charge.
