“Very nice although a little dated”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

We arrived late at night to find a very friendly front desk staff member who spoke excellent english. The room needed doing up though as most things were about 20 years old. The food in the restaurant was terrible. Overpriced, undersized and no flavour to it whatsoever. The pool was nice but for some crazy reason the lifeguard insisted on people wearing swimming caps of which I have never seen anywhere before. The interior downstairs was lovely but considering all the other places we ate in the town during our stay we expected the food here to be top notch. It just simply didn't get off the mark. No offer of a drinks menu, no checking back, no point in going.

We stayed at the Don Juan 5 years ago and we loved it then so we decided to go back; this was the best decision of our whole trip. For the price, you absolutely cannot beat this hotel. It is huge, far bigger than standard Italian hotels. The lobby is modernized and spectacular. The staff is extremely friendly. Our room was excessively large with our own balcony. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel, we sat outside by the pool everyday and the bartender kept feeding us drinks and cocktail snacks. The ONLY negative I have to say about this place is that you NEED to wear a swim cap in the pool, you have to pay 3 euros but you get to keep it. I don't understand why but that's their rule. Free bike rentals, close walk to the beach with a beach bar and all the sand and ocean you want! We love it here!!!! Would absolutely return for a 3rd time!

Room Tip: Request an ocean view!

We only spent one night in this hotel. The rooms are very spacious and very clean, even if the bathrooms could be renovated. Breakfast is served on the first floor, outside on the terrace, offering a beautiful view. The buffet is cold but offers a variety of items for Italian standards. I was very disappointed though, that the A/C in our room did not function. Neither did the phone. When we pointed this out to the man at the reception, he told us that the hotel decides when they were going to turn on the A/C, even though we expressed the desire to have it turned on. He then charged us 4 euro/hour for two bikes that we had asked for and saw parked outside. The center, where you can find the shops/some restaurants, is about 1,5 km away from the hotel. We didn’t want to walk or take our car because of parking reasons. We later found out, from some other tourists that we had met in a restaurant, that the most hotels give complimentary bikes to their guests.
When we checked out the next day, I left our “beach cards” up in the room. The lady down at the reception insisted that one of us went back up to the room to get them, after I had told her where I placed them. I asked the lady why it wouldn’t have been possible for the cleaning lady to bring them down and she answered in a cynical tone of voice that I should have asked to do so in a very friendly way….
I think that the next time we will try another hotel, probably closer to the center.

Room Tip: nice view from the balcony!

We had only booked this hotel for one night and were sorry we did not stay longer. We had a massive room. a big veranda overlooking the beach all this with breakfast included and at the unbelievable price for myself and husband wait for it 49euro.no we could not believe it either.Staff could not have been more helpful and the barman was second to none,I know the rates change with the season but if you get the chance try it out.

Room Tip: room 327 if possible

Just returned from spending 6 days at this hotel. We were part of a large party of 33.The pool area and the beach were very good - clean and well staffed and the beach was just across the road from the hotel. The staff were hard-working, polite, friendly and helpful. However, the air conditioning in our room was totally inadequate. Despite having it on full blast all the time, it never really cooled the room down. The room itself would benefit from an extensive refurbishment. However, the real problem was with the food. Breakfast consisted of cold bacon and cold gloopy eggs, stone cold boiled eggs and cakes which were trotted out every day until they were either finished or had gone stale. Hot water for tea was often unavailable unless you turned up the heat control on the urn yourself. The fruit was inedible because it was rock hard every single day. We had to make do with a roll and cheese every day. The horror of the breakfast was only surpassed by the dinner. The salad items seemed to have been re-cycled to the next night. The peppers looked as if they had come out of a jar as they were saturated with oil and the exact same items appeared every night - no cucumber, coleslaw, salad dressings except bottles of oil and vinegar. No marks for presentation! The starters and main courses were equally terrible - very small portions which looked as if they had been brought in from the local frozen food shop. Cheap and nasty! Some examples were hard risotto with shrimp shells, rigatoni which smelled off and the homemade hamburger which looked as if it had been bought in bulk and which looked like a slice of luncheon meat. Certainly not what we would expect from a 4 star hotel. We won't be back. At the reception desk there was a poster saying "Recommended by tripadvisor" - we certainly can't agree with that!

Room Tip: Choose a hotel nearer shopping the shopping facilities. Complain immediately if things aren't ri...

We arrive on Friday 20th for lunch time and we were invited immediately to the beach barbecue...delicious fresh fish with all the flavour of the sea.We felt really welcomed from all the staff which is wonderfully trained and ready to make your holiday memorable, a special mention to Mrs Brunella the Hotel Manager, charming and elegant woman adored by the employees as well as Mr Franco Reale the Food and Beverage Manager.Although the hotel is huge (about 140 rooms) you don't feel a number on the list but they have got the ability to make you feel home, evrybody iis lovely, smiling with a good sense of humour.Friday the dinner was superb, there was a musical created by the animation staff and then we danced until our legs supported our bodies! Mr Reale was a revelation cause he is a marvellous dancer and one of his friends danced such in an harmonic way with him that there were a pleasure for the eye.The places at the beach are wide (not like the one in Rimini or Riccione which you can hardly gain a spot of sun!) and the restaurant food is excellent (we had a seafood sald saturday and mixed fried fish today).Saturday there was a piano bar night and we had the pleasure to hear Antonio Sorrentino who was one of the excluded boys for X-Factor.He has such a wonderful voice that none of us could believe that he wasn't chosen for the show.Other friends of Mr Reale have sung; a lady and another boy but of course they couldn't be compared with Antonio! After another day of sun and relax we left after dinner Sunday night with a sort of sadness in our heart but determined to come back as soon as possible maybe before the summer season ends. That's what I call an excellent service and example to follow from all other operators.
