“Grand Hotel Don Juan was fabulous”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Grand Hotel Don Juan was fabulous.
A special thank goes to Francesca and Sanja (Reception Staff) who took care of all my requests very helpfully and quickly.
They managed an overbooking on Saturday night, in order to allow me to stay an extra night inside my room, and help me a lot with the searching of a train to Pescara (which I couldn't find!).
The night porter was helpful too, preparing me a quick coffee with few pastries.
Surely, I'll stay there again in future.

We stayed a week right during change of a high season to low season. Base price for a room (B/B type) was very attractive, but be prepared to pay every next step. Beach towels - Eur. 2,5 for every change, Eur. 3 for a swimming cap, Eur. 6 for a sunbed/day (umbrella and 2 chairs per room are free), Eur. 22 for big ("palm") umbrella/day/family, and so on.

Be aware that all rooms looking to the sea and pool have a "free" music and dancers every night till midnight, only some rooms - all with mountain view and few with partial sea view - are quiet in the evenings. We were those luckies to get quiet partial sea view...

But good news are free parking for guests and free Wi-Fi in the hotel and even at the beach (just ask for password at the reception).

I you're not planning to hunt for special food think about half board or even full board packages - they are far cheaper then to go for a dinner if you're a B/B guest. We paid Eur. 30 for each of two for "Grand Buffet", vine was extra. Hotel's private beach has its own buffet that is enough good for a lunch with very simple but good meals and lots of drinks and cocktails.

The beach itself is very good (blue flag 2013), different activities during season, good for kids. Location is little apart from center that is also good. Room was enough big and clean (in-room safe was very small). The pool has 4 meters deep section, no kids pool. The main asset of the hotel is its staff - friendly, ready to serve and English speaking.

Anyway, I'll recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Rooms to the North (partial sea view with numbers x28 - x34) and tho the West (mountain view) are re...

The reception area and gardens were worthy of four stars but our room would be lucky to scrape two. We booked with Expedia for an overnight stay and I am sure we were given the worst room in the place. It was sparse and shabby to say the least. We were on the 6th floor where there was no Wi-Fi reception and the guest hotel in the lobby didn`t work either. Although there was a T.V. in the room it didn`t get reception . Breakfast was basic but adequate. The only thing I liked about this place was the free parking. We will not return to this hotel.

We stayed 5 nights at this Hotel. The property is a bit dated, but has indeed several strengths: a large and well maintained swimming pool, a good buffet breakfast, a private parking able to accommodate most of the cars ( not all in peak periods ), simple but good enough rooms, professional and friendly staff. On the other hand, there are other aspects that are definitely not what you would expect in a 4* Hotel.

Stayed there for only one night. The room was fine and they provided secured parking which was a plus. Our only complaints would be that they played music outside until midnight and if you wanted to sleep earlier it would have been difficult, also the hotel is located at the start of the beach basically and it is a long walk to the main town

Certainly though it is not too far. We would stay at the hotel again.

We stayed 7 nights in the hotel in an interconnecting seaview room with two children (6 and 4) mid July. The hotel itself was, to be fair, a little dated, but they have recently updated the lobby area and everything was spotlessly clean everywhere. The rooms were much larger rooms than the average and again whilst a little dated, beautifully clean and well maintained. The beds were very comfortable and a great big wardrobe and drawers. We were on a half board rate so ate in the hotel every night. The food was always very tasty and a good selection of dishes, some nights table service, some nights were buffet. The American Bar served great pre-dinner snacks. The beach is absolutely brilliant, just over the quiet road from the hotel, beautifully clean, you can book you sunbeds so no rushing for the best spot. The sea was pretty shallow for some way so great for kids to play in and really warm. You can rent bikes from the hotel so can find the Ice Cream shops in town with ease. But the best thing about this hotel is the staff, they really went the extra mile to ensure you had what you wanted/needed. They were all really friendly and helpful and made our stay really memorable. We are definitely returning to this hotel next year.

On the other hand, there are other aspects that are definitely not what you would expect in a 4* Hotel. WiFi has been extremely unreliable for the entire period, with one day of full black-out. Since even the two PCs at the lobby are wireless, I had to ask the management to use their private desktop. Great courtesy from their side, but not ideal. A/C is not able to keep up with the hottest days, and, lastly, the "gym" at the 5th floor it is in reality just a few old equipments in the area in front of the elevators. You are required to have towels to use the pool, but the same are not provided unless you pay a small fee. Overall, a nice staying, but with several opportunities for improvement.
