Just spent a very good week in the Hotel Etoile De Neige arranged through Crystal Ski. We were given room 503 with views up the mountain and the pistes. The room roof was very high as we were in the middle part of the hotel.
The room was quite large with a very spacious bathroom - though with a small shower enclosure and no bath.
Unfortunately we had noisy heating pipework which, as a previous reviewer mentioned, sounded like a distant pile driver working and lasted about 10 seconds every 30/40 minutes. However we always take ear plugs so slept reasonably well.
The breakfast buffet was fine for us with plenty of choice.
Evening meal had a salad bar, 2 pasta choices, soup, a meat/fish choice and choice of sweets.
Again, as another reviewer mentioned, the salad bar was not replenished but we were always ready to eat at 7:30pm so we managed very well.
Wine was served with the meal and more was available if requested.
Residents get 1 hour free Wi-Fi every day but you need to sit in the comfortable reception area to connect.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
It is a ski in hotel but going out there is a 50m walk to the Chamole 4 seat chair which gives access to the full resort.
We arrived on the 23rd Feb. and all our fellow residents were very nice people - every evening was spent just chatting and having some great laughs - oh and the occasional drink!
We enjoyed the skiing in Pila and there is certainly enough terrain to keep most intermediate skiers happy for a week.
We also spent a couple of afternoons going down to the town of Aosta on the gondola (included on your lift ticket) to view the Roman ruins, cathedral etc. Well worth a visit while you are in the area.

Room Tip: Rooms either look over the valley or up the mountain so you get great views at the front or back of...

We have just returned from Pila and we stayed at the Etoile de Neige. The location of the hotel at the bottom of the resort was great for skiing (we can all ski so we managed to get to the ski school meeting place by the adjacent chair lift). The family who run the hotel all work very hard, but they just don't provide a good enough service. Allessandro is a bit like 'Mr Ben' he pops up everywhere, serve behind the bar, carve the main course. etc No body else is allowed to serve you drinks at the bar and therefore on a few occaisions we had to wait over 15 minutes to be served!

As others have stated the rooms are very dark, poor lighting, poorly placed electrical sockets, and poor TV reception (still we didn't go on holiday to watch tv!). The rooms were very clean however the hotel seemed to be a bit 'tired' looking.

I would say the food was excellent, however if you did not get to the salad buffet by 7:30pm there was very little left and the salad bar was not replenished!

We will stay in Pil again but I doubt we would stay at this hotel again, sorry

However, I cannot help but confirm the excellent write-up by Fiona as this hotel is the "business". My problem is it will attract others and I really want to keep this place to myself! Everything Fiona writes is correct and the greatest compliment I can pay is I witnessed a cleaner scrubbing the underside of a stool at 7.30 am. We will be back as soon as humanly possible. A big thank you to all those concerned at the hotel.

Fantastic holiday thanks to Allessandro and his family and staff!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our time in Pila!
Great pistes easily accessed from the back of the hotel and great snow conditions all week! Could nearly ski and board back into the hotel (ski storage and separate boot room) at the end of the day!
Fabulous views from the hotel, incredible food, and friendly helpful staff at all times. Felt very well looked after all week and will definitely return!
Rooms were warm, kept spotlessly clean and our group was allocated rooms together.
Jessica, the children's entertainer, was fantastic and our little one loved her.
Allessandro went the extra mile to make sure our stay was memorable, even collecting a member of our group from the trauma centre after a fall.
All in all, a great hotel we all loved and highly recommend, and want to return to next season.

A good family run hotel at the bottom end of Pila resort. My family and I stayed over New year and had a very enjoyable stay.
The downside; three stars is pushing it as the rooms lack refinements i.e. there is no tea/ coffee, safe in the room, the power points are very limited and difficult to access and the lighting is poor, the English TV channels are limited (MTV and BBC world) however the rooms are well maintained and spotlessly clean.
This hotel is popular with Italian families that return year after year, there were a large group there when we stayed with lots of kids, this may be annoying to some visitors but we enjoyed the entertainment they provided.
The food is good and there is plenty of choice, my daughter who is quite picky found enough to get by on, although we could have done with a few more veggies but we put this down to the Italian way.
In Summary; a very enjoyable stay thanks to Sandro and his family, we would stay again but would prefer a hotel further up the resort. Would not recommend an eves room for anyone over 5 foot tall

Room Tip: request a balcony room on the slope side of the hotel

We loved this hotel. The rooms were comfortable, the food was fantastic (breakfast and dinner) and we even had free wine with our meal (and it was nice!). 4 courses starting with a long table of amazing salads, followed by two cooked courses for you to choose from and a dessert.

The hotel staff were brilliant and the bar made amazing cocktails and had a very wide choice. It is incredibly well located for skiing and has storage for your ski/snowboard gear. Our room was on the side of the hotel facing the alps and the view was incredible. Easy to get down into Aosta as well if you wanted to. I would whole heatedly recommend this hotel, just brilliant.

Room Tip: I would recommend staying on the hotel side facing out the alps, the view will never get old!

Travelled with my husband and 10 year old daughter. The hotel is well located at the bottom of the village, a bit of a scramble to get up to ski school as you can't actually ski to it without going right up the mountain and back down. However you can ski right back to the door so that was good. We were lucky to have a room on the ground floor at the back looking up the slopes, so we just skied to our balcony and left our skis there (not sure this was popular but everyone did it!)

The rooms are comfortable, clean, plenty of hanging space, nice big bathrooms. Nothing flash but totally adequate. There was plenty of room even with our daughter on an extra bed. The mattress was very supportive for anyone with bad backs (ie us!)

The food was very variable but there was so much choice that you could always find something adequate. The breakfast I was not too keen on, bread not v nice, weird doughy croissants covered in icing sugar, rubbery scrambled egg, not v nice hotdogs. Plenty of cereal/fruit/yoghurt etc though so this was fine for us. Dinner was much better, massive antipasti selection, pasta course, main, pudding or ice cream. Service excellent and the house wine very drinkable given the very low price (and knowing how fussy we are about wine).

The atmosphere in the hotel was not great in the evenings. If you are looking for anything to do after dinner, you won't find it here. They were rather grumpy if we wanted to order late drinks. Everyone in bed by 10pm! The common parts could be improved on, they are a bit vibeless. Very friendly and helpful staff generally.

Pila is a beautiful place if you ignore the horrendous 60s buildings in the middle. The scenery is really stunning and the views down over Aosta make you feel like you are in a plane. Lovely runs, very wide and well kept. Ideal for beginners as there is a long 10k blue from top to bottom. A bit limited if you are very advanced. The nearest ski school to the hotel is Evolution, if you went with the other one it is rather a hike in the morning I would think. All the instructors spoke good English and our daughter enjoyed her lessons.

I would recommend this hotel if you are after something simple, good value and comfortable in a good location.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms at the back (looking up the mountain) are good as you can ski back to your balco...
