We took an iced coffee to-go and sat in the afternoon sun with view across the theatre. It is a Great place for a Stop and a little rest when in Lecce.

Only part of the amphitheater has been excavated. It doesn't have the appeal or views that most of the other Roman theaters had; it is now off to the side of a busy square.

Hadn't seen an amphitheatre like this before. While you can only see half (free viewing) you get a great feel for what it is like. It's a pity you are unable to get inside it.

The amphitheatre is only a couple of hundred yards from the cathedral in the centre of old town Lecce and is worth a visit. Less than half of the theatre is visible as the remainder remains buried under nearby buildings. We weren't able to walk around it on our visit but you can see almost all of it from the road.

Discovered early 20th century when contractors were digging to start building a bank. Quite a lot of the lower part left thou apparently there would have been a lot more on top. This is open to the public and no charge.
