“Delightful 2 night stay”
Reviewed 14 June 2013 via mobile

The previous record says it all so I will not repeat, as the location, room, ambiance and welcome where perfect for our first stay in this region of Italy. Marta could not have been more helpful. I had booked independently via email so felt that I knew her before we arrived. She met us at the the entrance to the old town to show us where we could park and gave us useful advice on where to eat etc. She kept in touch by text if there was anything we wanted to ask or know which was reassuring, whilst allowing us to come and go as we pleased, and our beautiful room made you feel like you were in a palace with high ceilings and clever use of the historical features incorporated as wardrobes and shower etc. She kindly showed us her house which is next door which has to be seen to be believed the rooms were magnificent and so deceiving, as from the outside you couldn't believe it occupied so much space. We would definitely recommend this place if you want to get a taste for the area and soak up the atmosphere, the price was extremely reasonable and although the breakfast was simple it was perfectly adequate the coffee very good and returning to Mamma Elvira in the evening for drinks was lovely as their wine list was extensive and the staff extremely helpful explaining the different wines etc. Palazzo Gorgoni a magical find

Just came back from a week in Lecce with my husband and couldn't have been a better week, especially thank to this amazing B&B. Palazzo Gorgoni is one of the many gorgeous historical palaces in this wonderful city in the Salento region, in the sunny heel of Italy. It is in the historical centre, few minutes from all the highlights of the city such as Santa Croce, The Duomo, Piazza Oronzo ecc. The young owner, Marta, lives in this palazzo but the B&B is totally independent and you have full freedom to come and go as you please. It really feels like home rather than a temporary accommodation and it is extremely good value for money.
We stayed in the very spacious Maria D'Enghein room, with beautifully vaulted high ceilings, great comfortable bed, tastefully decorated and very sympathetically restored.
Considering how close Palazzo Gorgoni is to where it is all happening, it is surprisingly quiet and peaceful.
Marta is very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. There are nice touches like coffee, great range of teas, water dispenser, biscuits and often she bakes delicious cakes.
Speaking about the owner, she is from Lecce, knows the area very well and will recommend restaurants where the locals eat and you can therefore experience authentic flavours. We like that: often when we are abroad we feel we are sent to places where there is an invested interest and here it is certainly not the case.
In Italy cooked English breakfast is not customary (better indulge in a long leisurely lunch, as they have the siesta from one to five) so do in Rome what the Romans do. Marta will give you a voucher to go to a nearby bar, Mamma Elvira, where coffee comes in a little mokka espresso machine and you can have the delicious typical cake from Lecce and the Salento, pasticciotto (oval crust pastry filled with a sort of custardy pastry cream), but they will be very happy to provide other pastries, toasts, fruit or savoury fare and tea of course. Incidentally, Mamma Elvira is also a wine bar (enocoteca) in the evening and one night we had a great tapas like feast with local products, like burrata (mozzarella with butter and cream), parmigiana (aubergine pie) and friselle topped with delicious tomatoes.
Marta is also very knowledgeable of the Salento region and as we had rented a car (she gave us a pass so we could park in the historical centre free of charge and close to the B&B) on her advise we visited stunning towns like Gallipoli, Otranto, Ostuni and the breathtakingly beautiful Valle d’Itria with its trulli, Martina Franca, Alberobello and Santa Maria di Leuca. The sea here is the most wonderful blue and can't remember when we last saw so many poppies, daisies and olive groves. The sun is almost guaranteed and is switched on daily from April to October at the very least.
Lecce in itself is a jewel of a city with the most beautiful baroque architecture, wonderful palazzi, pretty paved streets and great people. It is lively but in a nice, unhurried, very pleasant way. It takes only few hours to unwind and feel totally relaxed and at home. Could really get used to that. We miss it already and can't wait to be back!

Room Tip: Highly recommend the Maria D'Enghein room (great for couples) but there are other beautiful room...

This small B&B was the perfect fit for myself and my friends during our stay in Lecce. A small B&B, very simple, comfortable, but most importantly clean. The owner Marta was very friendly and helpful, she really made us feel welcome and at home! She was able to give us tons of advice on local restaurants, the sites to visit in Lecce as well as neighboring towns. We will definately be back!

The only problem we had in this very comfortable and pleasant B and B was that there was no breakfast on site. We were however given a voucher for a coffee and a pasty thing in a fairly local cafe ( 5 to 10 mins walk away)
One of the great pleasures of B and B the world over is the breakfast and this certainly was no gourmet experience.
Other than that I would say that Marta did all she could with regards parking,a nightmare in very narrow and crowded streets. But hat is the same in all these Italian Towns
