Acquacalda is a small village and very quiet in May. This very pleasant hotel is set on the most remote stretch of Lipari Island. The owner and staff are very friendly and the breakfasts are delicious. There is an excellent seafood restaurant next door. The sun was hot, although it was also very windy at times. The air was perfumed by the broom and other flowers blooming on the hillsides. The views out to sea, with smoking Stromboli just visible on the horizon, were lovely, and the sunsets beautiful.

Room Tip: Looked like all rooms were quiet and had sea views

10 km from Lipari, the port of isle, easy to reach by car or scooter (the hotel have this kind of offer - room + car or scooter) you will find this great hotel with very nice rooms, furniture and also a mini kitchenette. Large terrace with sea view available also. The staff is very nice and helpful (saluti da Romania! carrot pie from breakfast was very good). Unfortunately we stayed only one night, but is a must to spend more then few days to see the entire island. Restaurant available near location.

Room Tip: First floor have terrace, main floor have garden

We stayed here for 2 nights in July 2012 and rented a scooter along with the room. The hotel called us before to ask when we would arrive and we were picked up at the port as was promised. The pebbled beach is just across the road and rooms are clean and spacious. All in all it's a good place to stay in Lipari. It is about 10 km from town, so having your own transport is a must when you are staying here.

We visited Residence Acquacalda in September, in a period where not many tourists are around the island, and in particular in the village of Malfa, a bit far away from the main villages of Lipari or Canneto. This means that the place is really quiet, but also that you need a car or scooter to be able to move around and enjoy the surroundings. The silence allows you to hear the melody of the sea just across the street and to have it as a lullaby when you go to sleep. The owners do not speak English very well, but they are very kind and put all their efforts in ensuring everything is ok. At breakfast there are the standard Italian sweets, but if you ask in advance for something different, they'll prepare it for you. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and very clean, and the bathroom is quite large - only the shower could have been a bit larger too, it is quite narrow.

This hotel is an absolute GEM!! Its situated about 20minutes north of Lipari centre/port. The owner was very kind to pick us up upon arrival and even drop us off early for our departure. There is also a bus service and plenty of taxis. From the moment you get to the hotel, you are greeted warmly and friendly by the owners and staff. The room is clean, comfortable with a small terrace with a table and chairs looking out directly onto the sea. The beach is literally 10 steps away with crystal clear blue water and with the isolation of the small village and hotel, you feel like you are the only people around! You can see other islands in the distance and the sunset over the water is not to be missed.
The staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help you. The owners are a brother and sister who you can tell, have dedicated their energy to making a beautiful hotel. They can organise excursions, transfers, bicycyles, cars and scooters and reservations for the restuarants.
The town is tiny with only one resturant and two bars, serving all the typical italian foods. (Try the Ricotta, Fig and Caramel gelato from the bar!!)
If you want peace, tranquility, great hospitality, amazing views, beautiful water and great food, then you need to come here.
I highly reccomend this hotel, it feels more like a small family, its just incredible! THANKS!!
GRAZIE MILLE!!!! Ci torneremo sicuramente!! CONSIGLIATISSIMO!

Room Tip: rooms 106 and 107 are ground floor with a terrace overlooking the water. Upstairs are larger terrace...

Hotel is set in a small town in the north part of the island. It takes about 20 minutes by local bus which runs hourly from lipari town (there are also plenty of taxis available). There are a number of rooms that face the sea - about 20 meters from the sea (we were fortunate to stay in one on the first floor with a large balcony). Rooms are faiirly large and finished to a high standard. The owner is very friendly and kindly picked us up from the port in lipari. She also managed to negotiate us a good deal with car hire. The housekeeper is also very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included in the price and provided a range of cereal, fruit, pastries etc. if you're looking for a quiet get away, with beautiful views and friendly staff, thai isn't too far from town life, then we would highly recommend.

The hotel rooms were huge with high ceilings, nicely furnished and clean. The patio was a fantastic bonus. It was idyllic to sit out there and watch the sea in the morning or to drink a glass of wine, enjoying the warm evenings. But bear in mind, Acquacalda is tiny and far away from everything (though such a tiny Italian island village is interesting in itself, being different from anywhere most tourists have stayed): there is nothing to do but go to the pebbly beach or eat at the sole restaurant. That said, the beach was beautiful and empty and the water clear, plus there were fantastic views of nearby islands. This was my favourite beach on the island, better than the crowded ones nearer Lipari (some of which were guarded by packs of wild dogs). As the region used the mine pumice, the industrial equipment does remain dilapidated in the sea yet oddly this added to the charm of the beach: instead of being sanitized and fake, the beach was historical and charming. The nearby restaurant ranged from adequate to fantastic: one evening we walked in to find it completely empty (not uncommon except at the weekend when it becomes the social centre of the village). Yet the owner opened the kitchens just for us and cooked us up the most fantastic fresh squid. The owner of the hotel spoke little English but we got along nicely using a mixture of French, German and Italian; however, on passing us waiting at the bus stop one day she did offer to drive us into Lipari which was very kind of her. The breakfasts involved a nice, adequate spread: croissants, yoghurts, juice etc. In conclusion, if you're looking for a idyllic little get away, with what is effectively your own private beautiful beach, this is the place to stay. Yet bear in mind, getting in and out of Lipari means relying on the hourly bus service or incredibly expensive taxis. Don't stay here for value for money if location is important; but do stay here if you want to experience a calm and peaceful break.
