“Great Modern Hotel, nice view, very friendly staff!”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We were so glad to find this hotel! We arrived without booking on our first night after arriving late from ferry and finally decided to stay for 3 nights. Staff was very welcome and let us eat in the restaurant even it was time for them to close.
Rooms are clean, modern and the terrace/balcony with the sea view is really nice. We love also the swimming pool area, very well maintained. It was early May, so not that warm but still managed to have a quick dip!
Breakfast was also good, with a good selection and cappuccino on demand! The dining room got a great atmosphere with large windows and also terrace if the weather allows!

Most of all and compare to other hotels in Sicily, the staff was really helpful and friendly, always chatting and offering help or advice.

The only little downside was that it was a bit noisy, rooms are not very well soundproof (but as most of the hotels we have been in Sicily. Moreover,I know that I am a bit sensitive to noise but worth mentioning so you know)

The rooms are very clean, modern and the balcony with a sea view is amazing. It's only about a 7 minute walk from the port (up hill) and from the town centre.

Breakfast was also very good, with a large selection and a dining room with a great view of the sea.

The staff were very helpful and offered a map of the island and advice on how to get around, although everything is within walking distance.

Overall I was very happy with the hotel and would recommend it.

Great hotel. First the staff.....they are not in your face but are so helpful. Really make you feel welcome to the islands.
Then the room...it's modern, clean, ......and a balcony view that blows you away......see the big orange disc climb out of the ocean in a morning and turn into the sun...unforgettable!
Location is superb for the port.....short walk so no transfer needed. Good breakfast.
Sadly the restaurant was not open during our visit.

We will return to Lipari and will stay here again.
The only criticism was the size of the wardrobe......just take fewer clothes!

We stayed in Mea in September 2013. The hotel is very well located, about 8mins walk from Lipari town, so easy to go into town for the restaurants/bars in the evening. We stayed in a room on the 2nd floor, looking directly over the sea, and recommend sea-view rooms (whilst we didn't have one facing the back, there wasn't much of a view for the other rooms). We were out of season, so the pool area was very quiet.

The room was OK - but it was very small. A very big bed (at least king-size and perhaps larger), but very little room round it. The terrace/balcony in the room isn't private - they are all interconnected. Whilst this isn't a problem in principle (there are large pot plants on the terrace between the rooms), the cleaning staff walk from room to room along the terrace - which can catch you by surprise if you are in your room with the doors open and think you have privacy and suddenly see someone on your balcony! Also, the room door doesn't have an internal lock/bolt, which is a bit odd.

The staff were very friendly and helpful when we asked them to book something. The restaurant was OK (although too wide a range of slightly conflicting menus). The room-service was fine - and when we were back late one evening after room-service had closed, they very kindly prepared us sandwiches, which we appreciated.

All in all not perfect - but well located and a nice place to spend time.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the sea - the extra price is well worth it.

Hotel Mea is just what we needed! My husband, son & our dog took the ferry over with our car & stayed there in a sea-view room. Our room was spacious with a large bathroom, had a small terrace & garden--perfect for our dog; gorgeous view of the pool & sea...great foto ops!! The hotel itself is just lovely! When you land at the port, you go up the street just about 5 min. walk & make a sharp turn back right at cemetery. Once you make that sharp right, go up the hill for another 5 mins or so & it will be on the right side (white building). If you drive your car, you can park on the street to check in & then they show you where you can park behind the hotel in the parking area. If you don't take your car, you can make arrangements to be picked up at the port or walk. The hotel grounds are very well manicured-- plants, fruit trees & flowers--very beautiful! If you get a room without a sea-view, you see the garden area at the back where the parking area is located. Inside the hotel, there is a restaurant but it is closed through the winter months; however, breakfast is always provided & it is good. The staff is very friendly & eager to help in any way, just ask! Maria Vitale, speaks English & was a tremendous help with directions around town, how & where to go for day trips, eating, etc. & kept us informed on the weather conditions. The town is very close, a nice walk back down the hill (not steep), with several restaurants, shops & grocery stores. There are also several other islands around that you can easily buy boat tickets to go to for a day excursion. Keep watch on the weather because depending on what is going on, you may have to cut your trip short or stay longer than expected; we had to cut our trip short by one day due to severe weather conditions that would've prevented us from leaving on our original departure day. We had a wonderful time relaxing & exploring at leisure. Definitely plan to go back & hope to stay at Hotel Mea again!

Room Tip: If you take a pet, you'll want a ground floor room with a garden. The sea-view rooms offer a bre...

We stayed at Hotel Mea between 5th and 11th October 2013. We had originally booked to stay for two nights but after seeing the hotel and rooms, and experiencing the service, we decided to make Hotel Mea our base while we discovered the Aeolian Islands. We were greeted at the port by the Hotel Mea driver and taken the short drive to the hotel, this was very much appreciated as it took away all the stress out of finding the hotel.

Our room was spacious, spotless and opened out on to a patio with the hotel pool and sea as a backdrop. Throughout our stay the service received from the friendly reception team as well as the restaurant team was impeccable. The breakfasts were nice, with hot and cold meats, cheese, breads, cereals, fruit, yogurts, pastries etc. Free wi-fi was provided throughout the hotel which was a nice touch. I would recommend that anyone visiting Lipari or the Aeolian islands make this fantastic hotel you base and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are beautiful with easy access to the pool.

We enjoyed our 3-night stay in Hotel Mea on Lipari. The rooms were clean, and the patio was very nice to sit and talk with our friends who were staying in an adjacent room. The desk staff was very kind and helpful, and even interpreted for us with our tour guide. They have a pretty good breakfast buffet, however, my advice is to not come too early, as we noticed that almost nothing was put out when they were "opened" and decided to come back an hour later. Even then the best stuff was not yet out. Strange. At first, we were brought café latte and cappuccinos, but then the waitress took on an attitude, and pointed us to a storage pot full of café Americano - a grayish beverage I would not use to clean my battery, let alone drink. Sorry.

They have a very nice pool if you enjoy those things. The walk to downtown is no problem unless you have luggage, and they have a free van to help you take the luggage to the ferry port. The restaurant was mediocre at best for lunch. My fiancé ordered lamb chops and received two leg joints with very little more than gristle. We gave them to the resident cat that visited us on the patio, and he enjoyed them very much. But based on breakfast and lunch, we decided to not go there for dinner.

I can actually highly recommend the hotel based on the location, amenities, the "village" feel to the rooms and patios, and the free transfer van, however, they need a lot of work on the restaurant.

Room Tip: There are rooms overlooking the water, but we did not know that when we made reservations, as it is...
