Just came back from a great ski-vacation in Livigno, Italy. Great snow, great weather.
For many years we are going with friends to a place in Austria to ski, but this year, we decided to change and while I was last year in Livigno for a short ski, and found the ski-area great for family and kids, we had chosen this place and this hotel.
The hotel is very nicely situated on the mountain (Mottolino side of Livigno). Via the parking lot next to the hotel, you can reach the Teola slope of which you can ski down to the lift and up you go. On the way back, you can actually ski-in, provided there is enough snow.
While the rooms are very clean, the hotel requires refurbishment in some areas. (E.g. the swimming pool area has old showers - we used them the last day as we were checked out already).
Breakfast is good (including show cooking and sparkling wine). The food at dinner is not satisfying to mediocre. The wine is great. The waiters are super friendly and there to help at all times.
The bar is good, the staff is excellent - compliments to the chief bar tender - he is going beyond expectation to please his customers.
While the hotel offers cash advance (no ATM in the area), I had to ask multiple times to receive a bit of cash - this while my debit card could be used and there was no risk at all for the hotel. I was actually at one point very surprised to see that I was checked out physically before I heard the answer: : 'ok, he can have 200 EUROs).... :-) I think there is an opportunity for the staff and the management to learn and understand the terminology 'serving a customer'.
The hotel offers WIFI in the lobby area, but surprisingly, after I paid a fee, I figured out you can only use it to browse the internet (proxy setup in browser) -- this while there are 3 terminals at your disposal so what's the need of WIFI anyways? - nobody could help me getting a full connection - my request was waived away saying that it was the first time somebody asked for something like this. There is no business centre. If the hotel wants to pursue to attract customers doing business meetings, there is an opportunity to improve that area...
Overall the hotel is ok, but can improve in terms of food and overall services.
We will probably go back to Livigno, but will try a different hotel next time.
