La Loconda in Livigno Italy is simply the most friendly and cosy skiing hotel that I have ever stayed in! Lovely rooms, Great sauna and totally to die for Pizza!!

Have just returned from staying at this B&B. Generally agree with all the comments made by previous visitors but Sauna is only available from 5pm - 7pm and has to be pre-booked. Skiing to/from the hotel is not for a beginner however, it does help that the Bus stops right outside the hotel. Nobody mentions the 21 steep open wooden stairs from the Locker Room that have to be negotiated with all your Ski equipment. The rooms are small but are clean and warm and the staff are friendly and helpful. With a 3.30am departure this morning, staff were up and a breakfast was available.

Stayed in the La Locanda during Feb half term 09. This si a fab place. I full agree with the previous review. Great rooms, clean, fab food, great location, fab resort and all of that. I have skiied many places in europe and this, as an all round holiday, was up there among the best. Just a note to add. You can ski in and out of the hotel if the snow is good, which is most of the time in Livigno. So no need to use the bus to ski the hotel side of the ski resort.

Also a point to note is that the taxis arevery useful. 6 Euros for up to 3 people the an extra 2 euros per person thereafter. Well worth it.

Right from the outset I was really pleased we chose this lovely hotel for our ski trip to Livigno. It is a lovely little wooden hotel which only has 11 rooms which means the place a a slightly homely feel about it.
When we arrived we were met by, I think, the owner of the hotel, who although he didnt speak perfect English was able to show us around and welcome us.
We stayed in room 107 which was on the top floor of the property. This was ok, though after a hard days skiing the lack of a lift certainly didnt make your legs feel any better. Our room had a lovely balcony with a view of the mountain, which was very nice and kept away any traffic noise which may be experinced at the front of the hotel.
The room was perfectly clean with excellent showering and bathroom facilities. The room was serviced everyday by the maid, who much to my wifes delight folded her pyjamas every day and put them under her pillow.
The hotel has a pizzeria restaurant and the food there was excellent with all pizzas being made fresh and cooked in a brick oven, lovely!!
The breakfast we had every morning consisted of a selction of cereals, juice, tea, coffee or hot chocolate and a selection of pasteries, meat and cheese. This was a great start to a hard days skiing.
The hotel also had a very clean ski locker area and a sauna, which was free to hotel guests.
Overall I loved this little hotel, its close to the town centre walking as well as having a bus stop right outside the door which means there is no walking to the ski lifts!! Ski lifts 28, 29 & 30 are only a 5 minute bus ride or 20min walk.

I would recommend this to anyone and if anyone needs any more info then please dont hesitate to contact me. You wont be disappointed of you stay here!!

Let me start by saying Livigno is a clean well looked after place, not just the houses and streets but all the hotels and accommodation are all spik and span. The prices of some items are unbelievable, i.e. skis, ski wear, perfume, alcohol and cigarettes (if you have the habit). Eating out is in most cases superb but you can get caught and receive a bad meal, we had two such experiences, it is also not as cheap as people will often tell you. These people must be eating pizza all week as this is value for money but becomes boring.
The accommodation, we chose the La Locanda after reading the reviews, big mistake. We had a very small room, we could not pass each other anywhere in the room without one of us having to either sit on the bed or move into the bathroom and we are not big people. The shower was very powerful but the water went cold during the second person’s attempt. The cubicle was minute it was hard to bend and wash the lower parts. The ski room is very secure but not thought out, if more than two people at a time are trying to get into their boots you can forget it, there is within the lockers a heating system to warm up and dry your boots, throughout the whole week it was not switched on. The sauna was excellent you just put your name on the board for a half hour slot each day.
The staff, the owner is a really nice guy who cooks all the pizzas and I must say they were probably the best we tasted. The bar staff and waitresses, three women one who smiled all the time, one who said good morning at breakfast and one who i think may have been the owners wife that did not smile or talk and did not place your plate down but threw it at you. This was the only place we experienced this attitude everywhere else was friendly. We ate in the La Locanda twice we thought that this waitress was having a bad day so we tried it again and the same happened. It is a pity because the food is good and we would have eaten there daily but for this attitude. I have read the other reviews and people say the bar staff are very friendly, either they have been changed or we got them on a bad week except of course the one who smiled, you will know her she has two pony tails. We also spoke to other people who were staying here with us and they all had the same comment about the staff, and all ate elsewhere due to this.
The bus service is good but they do tend to miss the odd one out in the morning and when the next one comes along it is of course full, more often than not we walked to the first lift which is only a couple of minutes away. The skiing is superb and that is after all what we went to Livigno for.
This is my experience of La Locanda and you might have a different one, and after all it is only a place to sleep and wash.

Stayed at this B&B in 2005, but have been back to Livignio every year since. Staff were very friendly & spoke some English. There are no lifts so bags need to be carried up the stairs. (There is a stenar type seated lift for people with disabilities though).
Our room was like a little dolls house/sauna, with wooden panelling on all the walls. Very small, but adequate. I am sure other rooms have more head height, but our ceiling sloped and had beams going across. Most of the time I was ok, but my 6ft 2' partner had several bruises from getting out of bed and forgetting about the roof. We were there to ski though, no live in the room.
The hotel had a pizzeria downstairs. They cook woodfire pizzas and very good too. The hotel is a little out of the main town centre, good if you want a quieter place to stay. There is an Irish pub 5mins up the road which has a much livlier crowd. The hotel is at the opposite end of the resort to the nightclub, a 5km walk or a taxi ride.
During the day there is a very good, free, bus service around the resort. It does get crowded in the mornings though. Note, that some bus route maps are shown with the route printed upside down and the words printed correctly! When there is plenty of snow, you can ski back to the hotel. There is a small ski lift about 200m away from the hotel, but the bus is the best option to get to the gondola and higher slopes.
Breakfast was continental style with cold meats, cheeses, yoghurts, boiled eggs, fruit juice and bread rolls.
Livignio enjoyed tax-free status which made shopping here excellent value. I was told that this status was to finish by the 2007 ski season, so maybe not worth the 5hr transfer from the airport now. Being a high altitude resort, skiing is still reasonable till the end of April some years. The skiing is varied and has a good range for most levels. Mainly suiting intermediate skiiers, but also some challenging pistes for advanced.

We've just come back from a week's skiing in Livigno, staying at the La Laconda B&B apartments. I was a bit nervous when booking this place for a party of ten, as the giant 'Simpsons' effigy (see earlier pictures) didn't inspire me with confidence and the lack of reviews didn't help either. Rest assured this place is great!!!! I've stayed in various types of accommodation when skiing around Europe, in terms of comfort, style, convenience, cost and location, this place offers great value for money. The rooms, although small, are very clean, modern, well decorated, warm and comfortable, about as good as you can expect. La Laconda is basically a pizzeria which is open from midday-through to midnight. The place is very secure and they have a decent locker system to store all your ski gear in (see pictures), they also have a hot tub and sauna, although no one in our party used it.

We ate in the restaurant (pizzeria) on two occasions and the food was very good and affordable (about €6.00 max for a pizza, €2.50 for a glass of wine and about €3.00 for a beer). The owner (who never seems to sleep) makes all the pizzas fresh, from scratch, in a clay oven behind the bar. Damn he is fast !!! The staff are very friendly and provide a constant stream of crisps and bar snacks when you're around. The conversation is a little limited, as they don't speak great English (nor I Italian), but you can see the intent through friendly smiles and gestures.

Breakfast is pretty much standard issue these days - i.e. continental (cereal, ham, cheese, egg, toast, jam, pain-au-chocolat, croissant, water, tea, coffee etc..)

The only real negative is the location, which is a little out of the main town square/shopping area. This isn't a major problem as one of the free bus services (blue), stops right outside. This service, like the others (yellow and red), runs constantly from about 7am till 8pm. The outward journey to the main centre & ski school (for noobs) is about 5-6 mins on the bus. The return journey though is about 15-mins, as it does a one-way circuit around the resort. I didn't walk it myself (wearing ski boots, you mad?), but I have been informed the walk is about 25-30mins. Nearly forgot, you can ski back to the apartment (which is typically what I did), but getting to the final drag lift is a bit of a pain. Finally, you can always flag down one of the many taxis that roam around the resort. The cost of this is normally based 'per person' (c.€2.00) irrespective of how many people you have and how far you are going. (I’m sure there must be a minimum charge though).

Although the main square is a small trek, there are still plenty of eateries and pubs (Gulliver’s) within about 1min, so it's not completely out in the sticks, so to speak.

All in all, I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a no-frills, cheap, quiet and comfortable stay.

P.S. - The Simpsons have gone from outside La Laconda (see picture).

P.P.S - Although this place is tax-free, the bars/restaurants etc aren't as cheap as you think. Granted the exchange rate is pants at the moment €1.29/£1, but most prices are on par with your average UK town (excluding South East & London of course).
