Agriturismo Le Magnolie

First of all the food was really, really good. We're an American family living in Italy and are pretty picky about what we consider good. This was very good.

The apartment we stayed in was good sized with a decent kitchen. The apartment was clean (apart from some black mold in the bathroom). The beds, however, were mediocre. Also our neighbors had a party late one night which kept us up. We also could hear our upstairs neighbors just walking about. I realize this isn't the fault of the owners, who couldn't have been nicer, but it does point out the quality of the construction.

Finally on the con side, we left a day early because our children both got sick. We gave a day's notice that we'd be leaving a day early, but they still charged us for the extra day, which they have the right to do, but it takes away from the experience.

The location was pretty, but not spectacular.

2nd time we've stayed here and last. On the negative side too many barking dogs and cockerels and noisy disco down the hillside at times. On the plus side food, location and pool are excellent. Take care there are lots of scorpions.

Perhaps our short stay was compromised by the comparison with our previous accommodation near Orvieto. Our Le Magnolie apartment floor tiles looked like they had not been cleaned for ages and felt gritty underfoot.
We booked half-board due to the review the food got in a newspaper article. To be honest, our evening meal was average. Nothing really wrong with it, but just rather bland. The wine ran out too quickly at the end of our table!
However, the killer punch arrived at 3:00 am when the dog(s) began their barking. Not just some distant annoyance but full throated baying with an echo chamber effect, adjacent to our room. This carried on untill 5:45am whem I got out of bed and opened our outside door. There were 4 dogs, 3 large and 1 small 2 metres away. Perhaps as a result of slamming my door shut someone got the dogs and removed them. I think they were taken down the track to another location.
I'm sure the property has it's appeal to many but somehow we didn't click with it. Pity really as this was the first place we booked when we began our Italian holiday plans and for the prospect of doing their cooking classes.

We stumbled upon Le Magnolie agritourismo from the slow travel website. It was the favourite part of our two week trip to Italy. Le Magnolie trumped Rome and Florence, hands down!

The region of Abruzzo, where Le Magnolie is located is drop dead gorgeous. It is chock full of scenic drives, stunning views and beautiful towns perched on hillsides. There are mountains, hills, valleys of olive trees, and ocean, as far as the eye can see.
Best of all, there are very few tourists...if Umbria is the new Tuscany, then Abruzzo is the new Umbria. An untouched gem.

Le Magnolie is between the towns of Loreto Aputino and Penne, nestled in a valley of olive grove farms.

After four hot crowded days in Rome, it was the perfect getaway. We extended our two days to four, and my husband borrowed the farm's mountain bike and explored the countryside. I was happy to sit and read in the sunshine, surrounded by the farm's resident five dogs and cats.

We had a little apartment by the pool which included a small kitchen. There is a media room with a TV and assortment of DVDs. Breakfast in the morning is an assortment of fresh cakes, deli meats and eggs made to order. The espresso machine is automatic, and dispenses at will!

You can sign up for dinner that night, which is offered every night except Wed/Sunday. This dinner is a steal at 27 EU each - neverending Italian wine, and cooking by the Nonna of the house. Fresh ingredients, spectacularly good meals. Plates and plates of antipasto, a huge bowl of pasta, local meats, salad and everything is topped off by dessert. The food is out of this world and the best we tasted in Italy.

Best of all, the staff at Le Magnolie are well versed in customer service. They are there when you need them, and not when you want to be alone. Carla helped us with logistics of exploring the nearby towns, and Mario, the owner, serves dinner at night. Anything we asked for was 'no problem' and a laundry dryer even appeared by magic when I put my clothes in the washer.

We loved this place. Highly recommended.

Lovely place, great scenery, quiet and peaceful. The staff are practically invisible and you feel as if you're living in your own Italian place in the country, but with someone else to do all the work. This includes cooking you a fabulous dinner every night. It is a bit hard to get to but it's worth it.

Stayed for two nights very recently. Lovely location with fine views and all the charm so typical of the area. Room spacious but with a small modern shower room which, at 6ft1in, I found difficult to negotiate! Food, in the local rustic syle, was of excellent quality. Everyone helpful.Well placed for exploring the ancient historic towns nearby aswell as the Mountains and the Adriatic coast. Good value for money.

My husband and I spent 12 relaxing days in this beautiful area of Italy. Le Magnolie is a delightful agriturismo between Loreto Aprutino and Penne . Mario, his family and staff were very warm and welcoming. We soon felt very much a part of the place. Our room, La Quercia , was spacious and clean with a modern shower room. We enjoyed wandering in the grounds and using the spotless swimming pool.
We spent the evenings eating at a long table with the other guests, on the terrace under the stars. The food prepared by Olga and her helpers was delicious, home produced and very fresh. Excellent local wine flowed by the jug. Breakfast included home produced jams, honey, cakes and yoghurt.
Mario was very good company and usually came to spend some time chatting about the goings on of the day. He speaks good English but is very patient and lets you try out your Italian .
All the staff were very friendly and especially Olga who is delightful with a good sense of humour.
We enjoyed exploring the countryside, the small hill towns and travelling further afield in the Gran Sasso and the national park.s.
We had a wonderful holiday and met some lovely people.
